That comic has ALWAYS been among my top-5 Grandenetti covers. The angularity of figures, shading, the deep black inks, the juxtaposition of the foreground images against background. It is a total masterpiece.

The OFF 20 is one of the "easy-on-the-eye" washtones. It should be broken out from the rest of the runs.

My copy.

Purchased this many years ago when I stumbled on to the remains of a mid/high grade collection at a local con. This was in the days when very few people cared about these books.

Went to see "Fury" the other night and it reminds me a lot of the Haunted Tank, but a LOT grittier. Definitely no shortage of soul searching. . .ethical dilemmas and breaches of humanity abounded. It pulled few punches and spared little gore. I think I was actually more disturbed by some of the cruelty that the audience laughed at (maybe nervously, but certainly honestly) than the actual carnage itself. All in all, a good war flick, though.

There was a thread over a year ago where boardies could donate items so that other boardies could buy them. I believe the funds went to a girl who needed medical help. One of the items was donated by lizards2. It was an awesome shirt that thirdgreenham (Andy) had created.

I bought the shirt to help with the fundraiser, and also to have such a cool shirt. It shows the cover art to All-American Men of War #91 by Russ Heath (as if you folks don't know that!). I kept the shirt in my closet all this time. I wanted to finally wear it when I got together with two of my friends who served in World War Two.

Well, for Veteran's Day I was finally able to get together with my friends! We had dinner at the VFW in Crescent City, Ca. Here's a photo of us. The gentleman on my left is Frank Richards, who is of Tolowa Native ancestry. He served as the ball-turret gunner aboard a B-24 Liberator and flew missions out of southern Italy during the war. The gentlemen on my right is Neil McKinnon, who is of Yurok Native ancestry (like me) and he was a ball-turret gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress and flew missions out of England during the war. Frank is 89 and Neil is 91 years old.

What a humbling experience to be with them on a very special day, their day. I wore the shirt to honor them as "Native Airmen." Johnny Cloud would have been proud to be a fighter escort for these heroes!

Hats off to those vets. Way cool that you wrote a book about those fellers. They deserve all the recognition we can heap on 'em. . .and more. They look like they're having a good time!
