Maybe semi-key would be a better word. Anniversary issue, cool cover, double size, origin retold and Hobgoblin appearance. It also guides for more then the issues around it.

its a nice issue in one of the better runs of spiderman, but a $500 comic ?

 

$500 would buy you a very nice ditko issue, and I know where my money would go.

Oh definitely. Couldn't agree more. I don't even believe in 9.9 grades and it's crazy when a 9.8 could be picked up for a fraction of the price.

there was a nice 9.8 on the forums here which didn't get a sniff at $75

 

wes hagen just sold a very nice 9.6 for about $35 on ebay

I always wondered what a "thrill bidder" is. I think it is highly likely the second high bidder will be getting a second chance offer. My goodness though, there were two other bidders in at $500!

And the same exact book, same grade goes for how much? A very small fraction of that final price. I just don't get it. Why should the slab add that much?

I'd like to see a CGC grader come on and explain to me the difference between a 9.8 and a 9.9. Shades of Spinal Tap.

 

Better yet, I'd rather hear someone explaining to their wife why they spent $531 on this 9.9 book.
