Sweet books Jeff!

I snapped up the Spirit #7 9.4. I hope everyone got something they wanted.

There is no rest for the weary. Alas, with the time for CL's auction winding down I find myself with a diminishing list of potential candidates based on price. Hark, I said. I believe I found an interesting book? I'm always sucker for a nice looking Sub war cover. The Sub 10 might fit the bill? "To the archives". I say. Time is money. However, is not spending time to research a bit foolish?

I need HELP again from the pro's. Are the following pictures all the same book?

Per CL's offering

Per Heritage's Oct 2002 offering.

Seem's to be the same book as the CL offering except I can't see the tear on the bottom of the back cover as well on Cl's auction.

Lest we see how the story began, let's focus our attention on Heritage's July 2002 offering.

Is this the entire SUB 10 story from inception or have I erred? I can only spot the letter above Sub's head and the tear on the back cover.

I'm pretty sure that's Josh's book (you can tell by the style of the text in the regular listing) and it sat on his site at $3,400 for the longest time without a bid.

I actually had a bid on it a few weeks back for $2,700, and was countered as low as $3,100, but now I'm pretty glad I didn't pursue it.

I guess even a old label is no guarantee of anything, you really have to do your due diligence on every book. But who would have thought of researching 6.5s when you're about to buy a 9.0? confused-smiley-013.gif

Hey, was there a reserve on this book? Because I thought I saw it "sell" for $2,900. Now its back up on Comiclink a few hours later with a $3,250 ask price. Its also not showing up with the other "Auction Ended" books under the auction link.

For the life of me, I don't remember there being a reserve on this book. Tell me Josh wasn't the winner of his own book at $2,900. foreheadslap.gif

Okay, here's what I got. The #44 went for $500 less than the Crippen copy, also an 8.0, just a few months ago. Probably one of the top 5 Schomburg Nedor war covers. How could I pass it up?

So you were the one that outbid me on this...... sorry.gif

I won the following 2 books. Someone retracted their bid on the TOTJ #21 book, so I got that one by default.

Great pickup nearmint! Probably my favorite Nedor cover. I remember the Crippen copy that sold, and your copy presents better, and at a cheaper price you did real well. thumbsup2.gif

Congrats to everyone on thier C-link auction pickups, I didn't bid on anything this time around,. is anyone else shocked at the prices realized by some of the Early Superman books ??

the Superman #16 9.2, closed at $8,211, for that much you could have had the Mile High/Church copy of Action #48 9.0 a few months ago which closed at $8,000. that Supes #16 is a very nice book, but over a Mile High war cover ??

also the Superman #14 in 7.0 finishing at $3,610 !?!?! Jesus !!

and the Superman #13 in 8.5 which sold on Heritage in May of this year, for $2,987.50, selling on C-link for $3,400 !!

anyone else surprised by these ? confused-smiley-013.gif

Not surprised by this one. Just another example of the "highest graded copy" becoming as or more important than a pedigree designation. This book presented VERY well. I think it was one of the highlights of the auction. And, as has been noted on the boards recently, it's the first Clark Kent cover(Overstreet hasn't even figured that one out yet!).

Yeah, I know that feeling. Its how I used to feel in 2002-2003 when I was trying to assemble a high grade FF run. screwy.gif

Boy, was I glad the financial reality sank in....it convinced me to sell my incomplete run at or near the top, and start focusing on the type of stuff that made me happy, regardless of what I paid for it. It became less about competition and what I can afford, and more about the thrill of the hunt, which is what it should be.

If I were in your shoes, I would be thrilled to death with that one Rangers comic you picked up. I guess I'm saying, don't worry about what you can't afford this time, be happy with what you did get. Besides, in this hobby, if you're around long enough, everything comes back on the market at some point and you'll get another chance. thumbsup2.gif
