CL's October Golden Age auction looks to be a good one...

361 posts in this topic

the Superman #14 7.0 seems to be doing quite well, so far at $3,101 with the next bid being $3,201,

GPA shows a 7.5 that last sold in Apr '04 for $2,520.

Actually, that's my bad. I put in a bid of $25,200 instead of $2520. Is there a way to retract?

There is no rest for the weary. Alas, with the time for CL's auction winding down I find myself with a diminishing list of potential candidates based on price. Hark, I said. I believe I found an interesting book? I'm always sucker for a nice looking Sub war cover. The Sub 10 might fit the bill? "To the archives". I say. Time is money. However, is not spending time to research a bit foolish?

I need HELP again from the pro's. Are the following pictures all the same book?

Per CL's offering

http://www.comiclink.com/./auctions/item...4&id=654204

Per Heritage's Oct 2002 offering.

http://comics.heritageauctions.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=804&Lot_No=7147&src=pr

Seem's to be the same book as the CL offering except I can't see the tear on the bottom of the back cover as well on Cl's auction.

Lest we see how the story began, let's focus our attention on Heritage's July 2002 offering.

http://comics.heritageauctions.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=803&Lot_No=5217&src=pr

Is this the entire SUB 10 story from inception or have I erred? I can only spot the letter above Sub's head and the tear on the back cover.

wow, that definitely looks like the same book to me,.. and even when it was on Heritage the second time as a 9.0, you can see most of the spine creases are still there on the back cover...

good work jkrk,

I actually think a large portion of these books are rehashed from several other auctions. Also, anyone look at the scans carefully? Looks like a lot of the books have been scanned by the same scanner. Wonder whose books they are?

Here is an unusual situation. Read the description as supplied by CL for the Sub 41 "In 7.5 it is scarce as this is the only one graded and it tops the CGC census. Only 7 have been graded overall. The current Overstreet Price Guide lists this item in the condition shown for $414".

http://www.comiclink.com/./auctions/item...9&id=654209

If you look at the CGC census CL is correct. If you are willing to accept a small amount of glue you will have the second (?) highest grade copy. Did he say second?

Does this copy exist?

Maybe it was downgraded? Maybe it was missed?

I'm pretty sure that's Josh's book (you can tell by the style of the text in the regular listing) and it sat on his site at $3,400 for the longest time without a bid.

I actually had a bid on it a few weeks back for $2,700, and was countered as low as $3,100, but now I'm pretty glad I didn't pursue it.

I guess even a old label is no guarantee of anything, you really have to do your due diligence on every book. But who would have thought of researching 6.5s when you're about to buy a 9.0? confused-smiley-013.gif

Next up.................. I need a bit of help. Many of the guys on this site can blow up pictures and compare books. I remember reading about pedigrees that lost their designation in exhange for an upgrade. Is this one of those books? was this book mentioned before?

Heritage -Twilight copy May 2005

http://comics.heritageauctions.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=816&Lot_No=3572&src=pr

Today:

http://www.comiclink.com/./auctions/item...1&id=653931

!)the yellow dot in the Batman "B"

2)The white dot near DC

3)The dark spot under the smoke coming from the Penguin's pipe.

4)the horizontal line (printing crease) going accross the "AN" in Batman to the margin of the book.

Thanks for the heads up. We're taking a look at it, and we'll let Steve know if we agree that it's the same book.

news.gif Brad and I looked at the scans and agreed it's the same book. I contacted Stevie B about it yesterday. He contacted the book's owner, who is contacting Comiclink today to see if the pedigree designation can be added to the auction description. The new owner will have the option of returning the book to CGC to have the pedigree designation put back on the label.

Chalk one up for the lost pedigree committee, and thanks jkrk for bringing this to our attention! thumbsup2.gif

Excellent! Glad to see the new process worked for this book! Let`s see what actions, if any, are taken by the owner.

You should keep a list of all "rediscovered" pedigreed books and their current status.

The book should get the pedigree status. that's great.

Jeff, do ypu believe the light tanning designation improved or should the notes be included on the book as well? In essence what you are doing is valuing the book at a higher grade reinstating the pedigree, and dropping the notes for the next buyer. Is that correct?
