I just bought a small collection of Australian Disneys, which included a few 'Australian Four Colors'. Here's some from the Film Preview series, with the original photo covers replaced - presumably by locally sourced art or adaprted from interior panels.

Cool books. Makes me remember when I was young and watched The Wonderful World of Color Sunday nights on TV. All those Disney live action shows. I bought a lot of those US version comics and still do from time to time. A few years later I was watching Ed Sullivan waiting for the British Invasion rock bands to come on and pizz off my dad…:roflmao:

IIRC, I decided to collect the Four Color run circa early 2009. It helped that I had found a honey hole that had a good portion of the run in the back of the shop and I could buy them in buckets so long as I took the time to dig through the completely disorganized backstock.

Along the way, I started to track my progress. I gave myself 10 years to complete the set and occasionally took snapshots of my progress.

Here's an early one from February 2010. Thanks to the honey hole, I was past 50% completion that early on.

Fast forward to May 2018, pre-COVID, and I tracked pretty well with my original goal -

Here's where I am at today, well past the 10 years original goal, May 2024, with many completed "100's" (in red) and several just one issue away from completion and still chipping at the run. I'll say that there were some years in there where I probably did not add much, if anything, to the run, my attention elswhere. The quest goes on :)

Amazing accomplishment!

Have you had the chance to read them all or is there a backlog?

You and I seem to be tracking well against each other.

I started my Four Color TRADING Quest  about the same time you started, however mine are almost entirely from my original dealer stock  which had way less honey than yours ( less than 100 issues)  .  My goal includes not only the main series, but the First series  AND the missing Four Colors as well.  I recently completed another trade with MCS  and have 6 more books on the way including 2 each from regular series as well as First and Missing's.  With the FS5 and 15 I am only down to #'s 4 and 7  to complete that run   and only 31  from the main series.

Yep, quite well tracking as you said: I am down to 29 needed for the main series. Congrats on keeping at it!

Yes, absolutely! I still clearly recall the time I was watching a clip of the Rolling Stones playing "I'm Alright" from the T.A.M.I. Show on TV in the living room while my father was making himself a cup of coffee in the kitchen. He leaned into the living room for a quick glance and with a look of utmost disgust expostulated "Like s--- you alright!"

But he also watched in complete silence with nary a comment as the Doors played "Light My Fire" (despite Jim Morrison's leather pants) and Vanilla Fudge played "Some Velvet Morning" on the Ed Sullivan Show. I think by then he had noticed there was real musicianship involved.

I am inserting the "missing Four Colors into my tracking spreadsheet.

When I first started collecting FOur Colors I was still using the inventory pages from The Bag Man ( with the intentional errors for his protection) .  Each page could only handle 400 so it too four pages.

Well over a decade ago I first started excell tracking  and my compressed nomenclature could give me fairly complete information on only 1 page (double sided) I included italics normal and Bold type face to represent low, mid or high grade copies

From this thread ( which also started my trading quest) I learned of the missing four colors.  On one of my programing updates I figured out which numbers were missing ,  and how to exclude  those issues from my automatic statistical analysis.  Would not want to get the % completed for the 1200's to not exclude 1217, 1228, 1277 or 1292.

At first I stuffed the first series to the bottom of the sheet after the stats, but figured out it worked better  placed  beginning at 1371-75

Over the years added logic  be able to enter grade, and price paid for each book , and later to analyze average grade paid for each issue  in and HUNDRED, or in any issue # ( what is the average grade for my issues ending in 18, recognizing  that there are no 1218 or 1318's ).

With the help of another board member, I was able to add in names for all of the issues  and then to incorporate names along with numbers to make identification and confirmation of issues much easier

I made the spreadsheet be able to quickly adjust to print the actual issue with titles for not only each of the 33 issues I do not have ( in my numerical order)  but to also have the ability to select the books that are "upgradeable"  along with the logic  to select those based on a combination of both low grade and low price paid.

After 4GEM  started posting the actual books likely to be the "missing Four Colors" .  I added those to my collecting goals, but on a separate page.

I am now in the process of adding  the missing books back into place in the spreadsheet, and programming the special exceptions, so everything can be on one page for taking to an Actual Comic Con, or give to a LCS

Here is the list I came up with.  I used the order based on month of issue  with 207 being July of 1962.  I kept filling beyond the usual 1353 stopping place with other books that fit the mold of a series that had started in Four Color and had spun off into it own series, but that series had not yet established its own system such as the 210 issue of Bonanza or the Untouchables.  For the last issue I included The Twist, because who doesn't want The Twist with this series?  There are a few more possibles like Voyage to the Deep,Cain's Hundred(2),Space Man, drift marlo and Johnny Jason Teen Reporter, but I had to stop somewhere.  I do now have 29 of these 39 issues, mostly from MYComicShop

For ease of Identification I am Starting the name  with the 207  So for ID the name of this issue 1327  is 207 Untouchables

1217   207 Ken and Barbie
1228   207 Bonanza

We've had this discussion before, but I think there's some ambiguity about missing FC 1329. My copy of the Gyro Gearloose below, which I think is the one you list as 1362, has this in the indicia:

Walt Disney's GYRO GEARLOOSE, No. 01329-207, May-July 1962.... so I think this is actually missing FC 1329. The serial 01-329-207 also suggests that.
