John Carter of Mars Thread

883 posts in this topic

Although not a true John Carter cover, he does appear in vignette on the cover of #42, along with some of the other notable Funnies regulars -- this was his last cover appearance. The John Carter strip would continue until #56 - with #57, the feature was dropped and replaced with Captain Midnight. John Coleman Burroughs would go on to do a short lived John Carter newspaper strip, as well as a David Innes feature for Hi-Spot Comics #2 (my grail of grails and uber-rare).

Meanwhile, here's my Atom Age JC of M. The art is by Jesse Marsh, who also drew the Dell Tarzan series during this period.

Read all the Burroughs Books at least twice.

My favorite would be the Venus Series with Carson Napier.

But The Martian series is a very close second!!

In the middle of something now (just waaaaay too nerdy to mention) & then it is The Moon is a Harsh Mistress; after which I'll be needing something to read; so...we'll see!

although a big Tarzan fan, I always found John Carter the more interesting of Burroughs work . you can see Adam Strange was influenced by it. I recommend anybody to read the first John Carter book, almost 100 years old but not dated.
