  1. I didn't pick up Warrior, so can't comment. Seems they can be found fairly cheap considering that they have the first appearances of Moore's Miracleman and V for Vendetta. Here's one of my prog 2's. Right edge cropped as 2000AD's are too wide for my scanner: Pretty lame cover artwork really! They get A LOT better as the series progresses By the way, if you happen across a prog 1208 (published as recently as August 2000) hold onto it. There was some sort of problem (some say a flood, some say poor distribution) causing it to be extremely rare. Sells for £20 or so.
  2. I grew up with 2000AD I'm about to go home, but I couldn't resist quickly replying to your post! Prog #1 can be picked up in VG (without the free gift) for about £50 on ebay. Same for prog #2 (first Judge Dredd). In F/VF with free gifts included you're looking at £250-£350. Grades are generally low due to the very poor paper quality, free gifts sellotaped to (and torn off) covers, and the less 'condition conscious' British comic buyer! Most of progs 10-100 can be picked up for £1-£2. Exceptions are 71-72 and 77-78 due to their 'banned' unreprintable status. They go for £10-£20. Gotta go! Chat later!
  3. I'd love to join but the three 'investment' copies I bought when it was launched are stashed in one of several longboxes that have been sitting in a spare room at my mother's house for the last 15 years Next time I'm over there I'll take a snapshot so I can join the club!
  4. My second single-digit Spidey, received from Heritage recently. Described as a 5.5, which I think it lives up to admirably. Pages are white too. I love it
  5. Cover Number Twelve If anyone wants to read that unreleased Hellblazer story, it's here in it's entirety: http://www.compsoc.man.ac.uk/~jp/comics/shoot/index.html Cancelled in the wake of Columbine for fears of upsetting anyone, causing Warren Ellis to quit the title.
  6. Hmm, maybe I misunderstood the postings at the time, here: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=45806&Number=848237#Post848237 No, I am perfectly happy with them all. I have upgraded every comic I wanted to upgrade except for Girls Love 5. I had a huge list to upgrade and now there's just one comic left on it. I am more than happy with my collection. As for what I'm going to do now, I'm going to try to complete my MASSIVE HUGE ENORMOUS collection of rare DC giveaway, promo, and premium comics, NONE OF WHICH CHRISTINE HAS AT ALL !!!!! (I'd love to see her find either a Superman/Bradman comic, or a Twisted Metal comic). And before I accept her collection as complete, I need to be sure she has both "Narrative Illustration - The History Of The Comics", and "How You Can Defend Your Home", both of which qualify as bone fide M.C.Gaines All American comics, and both of which are true DCs. Maybe I misread this, but weren't you willing to concede she had a complete set if she had these 2? Hmm... PLOD, registered 18 July 08, has an opinion on a years old argument? So, you're either a shill for a previously banned member, or you're hurtling to conclusions based upon a cursory examination of ancient threads. In fairness mate, I don't think that the date that somebody registered on the boards should reflect on the validity of their comments. It's none of my business and I don't know the history, being a relative newbie here myself. It just irked me a little to see someone who registered a couple of weeks ago casting aspersions. Of course, PLOD's probably been here before under a different name/s. Again none of my biz really and I'm not one to have an opinion on 'board politics'

OK, I get it.

  9. Awesome. Plus......... Number on on the TV charts, a forty-something share, seen by over fifteen million people and an Appreciation Index of 91, the highrest ever. Cool, I'll turn off my cynicism! I thought Davros and his crazy sidekick were very well done (thumbs u
  10. Ian, what are some these 'elusive' promos, if you don't mind saying? I could keep an eye out What did you think of the Doctor Who series 4 finale? I'm torn between 'a bit stupid' (my honest assessment) and awesome (vicarious assessment borrowed from my 6 year old stepson) They still shout too much and solve things at the last minute by virtue of a deus-ex-machina. Boooooring. Moffat episodes were always good though.
  11. Seems he was still posting as recently as last year. Looks like he had a habit of getting into squabbles? Funny thing is I was vaguely aware of Ian Levine from occasional mentions and appearances in the media, but never heard of his comic collection until now.
  12. Just heard about Ian's collection in another thread, so had to check it out. NICE PICS!
  13. Hey Designer Toast, I'm specifically collecting YOUR Avengers it seems! Getting a bit hooked on these. They're distracting me from my Spidey goals.
  14. You sticking with this name, mate? (thumbs u I found a balance. By using 1's instead of L's in the name I can still search for mentions of Hellblazer without being swamped by my own posts. CopperComics is fine for my ebay store, but it's a bit generic for a forum ID. He11blazer, who has a bit of an identity crisis* *And now I'm sounding like Cal!
  15. I've done this a few times now. Buy a comic that's a bit out of my collecting league, enjoy it for a few weeks, and then sell it on. It's not flipping since I always make a loss on the deal My ultra-low-grade mega keys however shall have to be pried from my cold dead fingers as they say. Still working on ASM 1-100 in raw, sensible grades
  16. As long as you dont sell it like that Yes, the thought occurred to me. The cracking not the selling! I wonder what PGX would make of it But no, seriously, I would never do something like that. A reputation is easily ruined, and I expect to be around comic collecting for many years It would certainly look dazzling in a nice mylar with no purple label drawing the eyes though.
  17. I normally stick to mid/low grade raw ASM, but made a bit of an impulse purchase in a recent comiclink auction! Of course the (tragic) trimming is hard to get past, but it's still an absolute stunner The real tragedy is that this book must have been just gorgeous before it was attacked with razor blades or whatever. The trim job must be microscopic as I can't discern the difference. I've compared it with other SA ASMs, and compared the extent of artwork on other #50s, and really can't tell. If only the owner had left well enough alone! Anyway, thought it deserved a quick showing off in this thread. I've decided to downgrade to something more my speed - a nice raw VG for example - but in the meantime I'm going to take lots of photos of this 'flawed diamond'.
  18. Great looking book! I never knew WW had a surfboard. For eye appeal I can't imagine you could improve on that. For me of course the 'perfect grade' is the one I can afford! In the case of some of my grail items this mean 0.5 or less, but I love 'em all the same
  19. I noticed that too! (the page number). Never owned one of those. Looks like a nice presentable copy. Very cool
  20. That's not a crease above the Lizard's tail, that's artwork. Apart from that though I concur - I didn't expect a 9.6! I'll probably do as suggested and downgrade, keeping the change
  21. I purchased the above a few months back as a raw 9.4 (and I thought I was taking a risk). Sent it to CGC which turned out ridiculously well: Only problem is that it's literally too nice for me to justify keeping it in my collection! No way am I rich enough to sit on a book that has been known to sell for $1,600 I'll have to offload it and pick up a cheaper copy!
  22. That is still one of my favorite early Ditko Spidey covers outside of #19. Spidey looks like such a dork - "Doh!" Spidey 5 is my favorite spidey story. I love the way ditko draws the gadgets and backgrounds in this one. I also love the flash/spidey mix-up and the way the story unfolds. it's a true classic and it's also the first early spidey i ever owned. i bought a 5.0 at a convention in seattle back in the year 2000, actually when i was a teenager back in the mid 80's i bought a VG/VG- copy of #17 but i didn't realy get it. At the time i was into byrne x-men, starlin, and smith plus the story seemed goofy compared to many of the more serious stories that were being put out by marvel at the time. Nowadays its that goofiness and sense of fun that keep me coming back for more! Well now this is a bit coincidental, as up until now the earliest Spidey in my collection was #17 too! The cover of #5 is great and I'm really pleased I nabbed that one. Another coincidence, my favourite early FF is #5 too and that's Doc Doom again!
  23. Is that the same ASM 45 you bought as a raw 9.4 a couple months ago? Yep. Turned out to be quite the bargain! (thumbs u
  24. And the oddly decorated logs in the fireplace??? This cover is starting to get to me. I may have to buy it. Birch logs
  25. Last night's comiclink auction wins! For $180 I thought this was a very nice looking 3.0 with good PQ and QP. Doc Doom (thumbs u I also grabbed this for $47. I'll probably crack this one out and have it as a good looking addition to my SA Spidey reading set. Again, decent PQ and below GPA = a bargain in my book:
