  1. He was seen at Carbo's church cons back in the 90's always well dressed and all around good guy I have only seen Steranko at the NYC Con and never at the local Philadelphia Cons or flea markets. A dealer I knew in Baltimore said Steranko purchased a lot of rare pulps from him. Some of these may be in his comic history which I enjoyed. It should be republished as a smaller size or hardback so it would fit in there with my other comic history books. I would like to hear more about comics shipped to service men during WWII. You occasionally hear a reference but Wertham pooped on their positive reinforcement of patriotic attitudes and other stuff.
  2. One for memorial day and one batch of Targets that I found in the Uncle Scrooge box.
  3. I like that group a lot. It is interesting to see related books grouped together.
  4. That collection is amazing. I love the carvings. Such dedication and so much creative activity.
  5. TRULY FANTASTIC! mm I don't remember seeing the show when I was a child but I have seen chapters on Youtube and other sites. By the way, Buzz Corry was played by Ed Kemmer who was a fighter pilot and POW during WWII (a real superhero). I think I recognize him from TV westerns and other movies I have seen recently. He is also from Reading, PA.
  6. My Target comics are all missing. I had them in a box with the Planet comics but moved that box around a few times. I photoshopped this one but the others were very fine plus.
  7. There are many early issues of Marvel Mystery that I would collect before I spent my money on Marvel Mystery 1. Captain America 1 would make me a lot happier than any of those Marvel Mysteries. MM 1 should still be worth more than Cap 1 but I would rather have the Cap..
  8. I was having this conversation on another thread but thought I would continue it here because the Duck group may be more aware than I about the numbering system. I think the numbering starting with FC 147 when the title changed from Donald Duck to Walt Disney's Donald Duck (WDDD). There were 25 issues with that title before WDDD #26 (Trick or Treat). I am assuming the count was retroactive and the first 4 Donald Duck issues in the second series of Four Color comics weren't included due to the title difference. Can anyone confirm or explain it better?
  9. I very much like the Wonder group but only have 6 or 7. Glad to have any of them though.
  10. Picked up some more Boy Comics for my collection this week. Boy 30 seems to reprint the story from Boy 3 (origin). I didn't check to see if was exactly the same but the splash page is the same embarrassing splash found in Boy 3.
  11. Phase Plasma Rifle in a 40 watt range "Hey buddy, just what you see on the wall..." Da Uzi 9 millumetuh! an AK-74?
  12. I like those Ditko Spiderman issues but I like anything by Ditko.
  13. Lot of great stories by Powell in those Harvey horror comics.
  14. Looks amazing, big congrats - what kind of restoration? Thanks guys for the great comments guys heres the description the seller had put down when it was up for grabs.Restoration includes pieces added and color touch. The work is incredibly subtle, especially the ct. The original dealer believed the work done at the Comics Restoration Lab but, sadly, did not have the cert. goldenacase who care if its restored its to have a copy at all. I dont care if its got coffee on it grandmas pie hand prints its still a copy........ I bought a 71 that looked vg with a little bug chew in the inside when i got the book it was real bad. I got a better copy and put the bug chew 1 in a junk box with early Actions/Bat s/Sups that are beat even ducks and still glad to have them . Great book. Restored or not, it's a great book to have. All of those Robinson covers are a treat to see. I think he drew the three in the bottom row.
  15. Any idea who is the artist on that cover Richard Harry Harrison I believe: "In art school I teamed up with Wally Wood, and you'll see a lot of old comics signed Harrison-Wood, and that's the Harrison and that's the Wood. Wally and I worked together for years, we started in school, selling our stuff, and goodness knows which magazines we worked for: there were 650 titles a month in those days, things like Captain Rocket and Rangeland Romances. Despite that quote from Harrison, the cover to Capt Rocket is almost certainly the work of Harry Anderson. Harrison may have done work on Capt Science with Wood as well as other titles and just confused the names after the passing of years. Thanks Adam! In that quote, Harrison isn't actually saying he worked on Captain Rocket - more like he cant remember ('goodness knows which magazines we worked for'). But it has been used by others to credit him. In passing, the figure of Captain Rocket seems far better realized than the space girl behind him. She is a bit more reminiscent of Harrison's style, maybe. I look at the figure of Captain Rocket, and -of all people - think of Everett. (The hair, the knuckles of the hand...) But you wouldn't say Anderson without very good reason! It's a very long time since I read a copy. Who did the interior art? P.L. was a tiny publisher and I know from interior art on a different issue that Harry Anderson drew for them. It's not Everett, though Anderson is sometimes mistaken for Everett (see Marvel Tales 127), and I get a very heavy "Anderson" vibe from it. The interior art/stories are wacky 50s sci-fi and quite fun. The first story is beautifully drawn though I don't think it's Anderson and don't have a good idea of who it might be. The other stories are inconsistently drawn but in a consistently enthusiastic fashion. I was thinking Vince Colletta but he might have inker to polish it up.
  16. I thought this Wonder cover by Ingels was missing from list. Not sure if any of the others are Space Girls but Wonderman covers should be.
  17. A true test of Schomburg fans. How many Real Life issues do you have? Only #3...?
  18. Those pages look really nice Scrooge. I am a fan of Mandrake and purchased some extra comics after viewing some of BZ's collection on the boards. The Feature Books are really nice and Magic copies are fairly priced.
  19. I have two boxes of Lone Ranger, both short. I usually collect ME westerns but found a few bargains after the movie came out. I liked the movie but investors were anticipating a bigger market.
  20. and a nice selection of Crime and Horror from EC.
