  1. Yes! I imagine as I do, you email your want list and Doug quickly responds with what he has available, including the respective grade and price.
  2. "Also, regarding the package that arrived, the brown string tape had torn on the part of the top that connected to the sides — ripped cleanly from the weight of the comics inside." This, unfortunately, also occurs with every new comic book shipment I receive from MCS, especially on the bottom of the boxes which, as you mention, always tear at the ends from the weight of the comic books. Thus far I have been fortunate that the tape has not completely torn. I would very much like it if MCS started using far stronger packing tape. I select the $9 shipping option in order to receive the comic books sooner but faster arrival, as one expects, has no effect on the strength of the tape.
  3. In that instance it is a relatively valuable comic book that is for my personal collection and I did not wish to take the chance of having it damaged during reholder or during shipment back to me; I can live with the shard. However, I have sent back many other ones for ME service that I may one day sell.
  4. As others have noted, Doug Sulipa is great. I have ordered from him 10 plus times over many years, mid- and high grade copies, and every comic book has been as advertised. I have paid by check and once it has cleared the comic books have been mailed to me promptly and very securely packaged.
  5. About three years ago my wife called me to ask if I had ordered a very large television since she was at home at the time and two FedEx employees had left such on our front pathway. I told her I had not and as we were speaking she informed me that the two gentlemen returned and collected the television. We imagine that they realized they left it at the wrong address, went around the block and returned. As concerns UPS, nothing that _____________ has occurred to us ... yet.
  6. The forum was "gone" for me for about ten minutes. This community is temporarily unavailable Please wait a few minutes and try again. 504
  7. Yes, far too few and the ones I bid on I typically lose by a quite a bit. As I've written before, I must be one cheap bastarrrd.
  8. That is a pain as is the old "Your delivery has been rescheduled." ""Sucker! Hahahahaha"" Ok, FedEx has never told me the last part, at least not in writing.
  9. I have not been to a convention in a great many years but as with any other venue you may be able to find a higher grade copy of an issue for less from one dealer than another is asking for a lower grade copy; well, at least many years ago that was possible. As mentioned by other posters, it does take work to find such if it is available as I would typically show up before the doors opened and not depart until the bitter end each day, visiting every dealer.
  10. I agree which is why I wrote: "As a buyer I, logically, prefer auctions because at least I have an opportunity to win the comic book at a price I'm comfortable paying." In other words, I'm attempting to purchase the comic book on the cheap, as I also noted in my post. To repeat, I agree with you that many sellers will lose $ (or $$, perhaps $$$) in auction format.
  11. As a buyer I, logically, prefer auctions because at least I have an opportunity to win the comic book at a price I'm comfortable paying. The vast majority of the current asking prices for the comic books I'm interested in purchasing are beyond what I am willing to pay for them. Of course, as I always note, the seller may be willing to provide a discount but I don't care enough to inquire. The good thing for me regarding this is that I reached the point where I'm content with the CGC graded comic books I own, far too many, and will only purchase others when they are, in my view, cheap. If no cheap ones become available that's the end of the line for me.
  12. I thought CGC had finally gotten around to blocking my access.
  13. As concerns comic books and the folks that may spend money on them that they require for other things, I, likely you, and many who post here only purchase comic books with money that they can afford to lose. As I have posted many times, I only use what I refer to as "comic book money" to purchase, well, comic books. If the ones I've purchased were to become worthless I would, thankfully, still be financially secure. Granted, if I had not purchased the comic books I would have the money I've spent on them. But in my case I can basically say the same thing, for example, about owning a motor vehicle. I can use public transportation and save on the cost of, insurance, gasoline, and maintenance for the vehicle. However, I get enjoyment from purchasing and owning comic books as I do with cars and, with the latter, convenience.
  14. I was responding to pickycollector's post and I do not believe that he was responding to one of your posts. Clearly, however, he will determine that.
  15. "If you are primarily a collector: Buy what you like when you can afford it, this way you cannot lose." Indeed!
  16. I vote for Hairball who has the catlike ability to cough up hairballs that after ten or so hours of coughing them up may possibly overwhelm a villain by making them laugh so uncontrollably they pee themselves and must depart due to ridicule. Other than that, I'm at a loss.
  17. 2027. Oops, I mean 2017. No, I meant 1997. ... ... ... Oh, just forget about it.
