  1. Time to revisit? Remember, Mt. Rushmore is Top 4. A few of you can't count.
  2. Another Artist Update: Mark Texeira aka TEX. The artist is best known for his Marvel Comics work on Sabretooth, Wolverine, Ghost Rider, X-Factor, Black Panther and many more. This fan favorite always does a great job with his commissions.
  3. While fans refer to the show as SDCC, the organizers themselves refer to the show simply as "Comic Con" or "Comic Con International" so IMHO the COA letter is a red flag when I see "San Diego Comic Con" . I can't make out the last name but try googling his name. As far as the artwork itself, the lines look too thick to be McFarlane. There does not seem to be any variation in the weight of the signature either. Somebody else can verify but in 2001, SDCC show dates were July 21 - 24. From the photo, the COA says July 27, 2001. My 2 cents.
  4. Most collectors seem to use art portfolios like the Itoya brand to store their artwork. I have been organizing my art by character. So I had separate portfolios for Spider-Man, the X-Men, etc., regardless of the artist. It always got a bit tricky if there was a cross-over. It was always fun for me to go through a portfolio of Spider-Man art and seeing how different each artist drew the same character. It also made more efficient use of the portfolio since I could randomly place a piece of art in one of the 48 sleeves of the portfolio. Recently, I've been re-evaluating my collection. I am now thinking organizing by artist. I've always organized my CAF gallery that way so it makes more sense from a curator point of view. I probably will have to buy a lot more portfolios though. So, how do you organize your artwork and why?
  5. This is a great thread. I only recognize a handful of the more prominent names listed do far. It would be even better if someone created a timeline when all these individuals were around. This way we can get a real progression of the earliest collectors and their contributions to the hobby.
  6. +1 on what Milo's said. Misc. Comments: Make sure you have the wall space. The final piece will be larger than you realize. The frame job may cost more than the art itself. Lol. I have a piece I picked up in person so I kept the mat and frame. I hung it up for awhile but now I just don't have the wall space and I also worry about UV light damaging the art. It's now covered up and "stored away". UV protection costs more. https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=120660
  7. Importing into the U.S. is not a problem if the seller declares item as "hand drawn original art,". Since it will be disclosed on the shipping label be sure the item is insured. So, for example, someone ships the item via Fedex, the customs form will ask what the item is and declared monetary value. The seller writes the key phrase or some variation. "Original painting" "Original drawings" "Hand drawn original art" Etc FedEx will deliver the package and you will receive a customs invoice of $0.00 from FedEx. Customs usually won't open the package to inspect due to volume but these days you never know.
  8. My guess: Investment Retrievers, Inc. (?) It's a debt collection agency. Instead of cash, it's possible that they were given assets such as an art collection. Once the assets are auctioned off and everyone takes their cut, the remainder goes to the party that hired IRI to collect the debt.
  9. Artist Update: Ray Lago has been added to the show. The star artist is best known for his realistic cover art for Marvel, Dark Horse, and Fleer Ultra X-Men Trading Cards. I love his watercolors.
  10. When sharpie inks bleed, it has a purple "glow".
  11. I thought comic guys usually paid more for bondage covers.
  12. I hear IM artwork has been skyrocketing ever since Bob Layton started referring to himself on Instagram as Comics Legend Bob Layton and co-creator of Iron-Man Comics General has a thread on this. Lol.
  13. I've seen pages of his oversized FF pages inked in sharpie. I assumed he drew the entire issue in that manner due to deadlines. It's been so long, I can't recall the issue(s). Jim Warden would probably know.
  14. Didn't Uncle Scrooge try this by buying every quarter of a specific year and destroying all but 1 quarter? Spoiler alert !!! The downside and irony was he was the only person that could afford to buy the quarter.
  15. Why blame Rob? He didn't hire himself. Shouldn't the editor and publisher explain why they approved the material,?
  16. Nostalgia aside, early BWS Conan art was a bad imitation of Kirby. Even before the inkers got to it. So no surprise that the greater demand is for BWS art in the later issues when he looked like a different artist especially when he inked his own work. Most collectors want art from an artist's prime period. Also no surprise that Wolverine is more popular than Conan.
  17. While Mignola will be the featured guest this year, I expect other artists to be there as well. Last year there were multiple artists with the featured guests being Neal Adams, Michael Golden, and Ray Lago.
  18. I stopped by on Sunday. It's always a pleasure to see Neal Adams, Keith Williams, and other alumni from Art and Design support their high school. It's great to see such young talented students showcasing their skills at such an early age. I look forward to attending next year. It's never too early to promote the show. Cheers! N.
  19. This is the Stan Lee re-imagined Superman outfit drawn by Jim Lee and Scott Williams. https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=149151
  20. Ben Affleck. He single-handedly killed Batman and the Justice League.
  21. But you are no longer "anonymous". In order to qualify for a deduction you must be identified. The LOC must know your name to fill out the paperwork and so does the IRS. Therefore, you are no longer anonymous. Lawyered. .
  22. Anonymous donations do not qualify for charitable tax deductions. For one, it would no longer be anonymous. That's usually why it's referred to as a selfless act.
  23. Tales of Suspense #93 and #94, cameo and first appearance of MODOK !!! ASM 360 and 361, cameo and first appearance of Carnage. Woody Harrelson is CARNAGE !!!
