How do you transport your comic art to cons?
NelsonAI replied to Brian Peck's topic in Original Comic Art
Luckily, I have a huge belly to counter balance the weight of the backpack. The new black backpack itself probably weighs 4 lbs. Loaded, you are going to carry about 10 - 12 lbs. Take a few breaks, take the backpack off during the show and rest. Part of the weight load I carry is a 3.5 lb. plastic folding step stool I use to sit down on. The industrial strength concrete floors with steel plates at the convention center don't help. -

I kept my green backpack but did reinforce the stitching on the top and bottom of each strap. I loaded up the portfolio and tested it out at NYCC on Sunday. The metal zipper pulls snapped in half. I remedied the situation by fashioning my own zipper pulls at the show but quality control sucks. I had no problems walking through the crowds or the show with the backpack. My issue is how tight the straps are even after loosening them to the max. After looking at Glen's backpack in person, I ordered the black backpack off Amazon for $40 and received it today. The straps are far superior and comfortable. The straps are longer and also provide additional support with the chest clip and waist strap. The backpack also has a shoulder strap option. I have not reinforced the straps yet but am prepared to do so if necessary. Spend the extra $. -
I asked Albert the price of a particular piece on his display wall. He replied, ooh, that's going to be expensive before giving me the price. Since when is anything cheap on his display wall? Lol. A lot of great artwork on display. On Weds. night while dealers were still setting up, Los Hermanos Don Nelly, traded with El Hombre de Romita for his Kirby FF 70 cover.

It looks like Dan brought more art to the show since Friday. I'm glad that he was able to make some sales at the prices he wanted. Better he get full value for the art than the vultures swooping from above. From all accounts, his pricing while seemingly random, were in line with the market.

NYCC 2019 -- It's still Never too Early, October 3-6
NelsonAI replied to HOTFLIPS's topic in Comic Events
NYCC 2020 show dates are October 8 - 11. The show is back to their routine of ending before Columbus Day. Schools usually have off on that Monday so kids going to NYCC can rest after all that walking. Lol. It's also an easier day to fly out of NY. -
The page I saw had $550 price on back. Dan was not there but someone was monitoring the pile and probably would have sold the page for $550. Jean may have been on the page with Scott. They were visiting a log cabin. The page was in the pile. It's been awhile since I read the issues but it may be Scott and Jean visiting Rusty's house? Yoram, buddy, are you in NY?

Dan was picked clean by Friday. Lol. There was a Simonson X- Factor page with Scott Summers priced at $550. Not for me but maybe a hardcore Simonson fan looking for any page perhaps?

Now that you posted the info on these boards, the current owner will now list it on the public market at a higher price. Sometimes, it's better to do your own research discretely.

How about an OA meet up coinciding with Heroes Con 2020? -
Michael W. has some nice McNiven Old Man Logan art for sale in the OA Marketplace.

I'm sorry, Byrne did the Fan Expo Boston show in 2018. -
Keep in mind, Neal sold those recreations about 8 or 9 years ago. Healthy prices back then. You can still arrange for Neal to do a line for line cover recreation through his website but his price is not publicly disclosed.

Frank Miller appearing Sunday only. Last year, he had an assistant selling autographed merchandise for him at his artist alley booth all 4 days even if Frank was not there. I suspect he might do the same this year. -

Byrne did the show in Boston a few months ago. Read that thread for insight. -
Slightly Off Topic If I Recall Correctly, Neal did 2 cover recreations in the early 2000's. 1) the aforementioned Batman 251 cover that he had priced at $40,000. 2) Detective 412 where a medieval Knight on a horse is charging at Batman priced at $20,000. Both were posted on the Neal Adams website for several years before selling. There is a reason why most publishers look the other way when artists do commissions for profit on their copyrighted characters such as Batman. 1) The publishers can continue to pay the artists minimally as work for hire but allow them to make a living on the side to support themselves. Even Disney, which was known to sue anyone and everyone for violating Disney copyrighted characters seem to look the other way for their Marvel roster. 2) maintain a good working relationship with artists. Deadlines are tight and you never know when you need someone to fill in immediately. 3) it's good public relations to the general public who are ultimately, the consumers of the publisher's products.

NYCC 2019 -- It's still Never too Early, October 3-6

If you read the IDW / Byrne announcement carefully ..... you have the OPPORTUNITY to have 5 non-IDW items signed by Byrne. I interpret this as Byrne will sign his IDW book for free but you have an opportunity to pay him to sign up to 5 non-IDW items for a not yet disclosed fee. Given his recent show appearances, he won't sign for CGC signature series / witnessed autographs. -

Yes. CGC will be at NYCC to accept submissions but DOES NOT do onsite grading at NYCC. There is just too many people. The books get taken back to Florida for grading and then shipped back to you after they grade your books. Fill out the forms in advance. As Jason4 stated, the lines will be packed all day long for all 4 days. Sunday, they start packing up early to leave so do not wait until the last minute. -
Other options for the seller / HA / buyer include hiring a professional restoration specialist like Robert Dennis to evaluate the art. His knowledge in restoration will help spot a fake with a high degree of certainty. I would trust his professional opinion if I were a potential buyer looking to spend big $ on a piece of vintage comic art.

Translation: I will sign a Certificate of Authenticity for 10% of the gross proceeds similar to when the Green Lantern 76 original cover art was auctioned off. If Consignor is willing to pay, that's great for Neal.

ComicLink Summer Featured Auction has started

I actually thought the Larsen splash could have gone higher if not for the auction date being so close to Labor Day. -

Fyi Once you receive the badge, you need to activate it. The sticker has a link that essentially takes you to the showclix website where you should already be registered. On the reverse side of your badge are 2 serial numbers. The activation code is the second number ONLY (alpha numeric serial number on the right hand side of the badge). NYCC does a crappy job of communicating this and everyone kept getting an invalid error code because they were inputting the first number or both numbers. Cheers! N.
