  1. +1 Well, based upon most of the results in the just completed HA auction, this would definitely appear to be the case here. Or more accurately, completely ignoring these 2 auctions and saving up their dollars for the Berk books.
  2. Well, fork over some loose dollars for a new upgraded scanner or hire and train somebody to do better scans photos of the books.
  3. Yes, looks like Mystery Men 7 is turning out to be one of the early MM books that is truly hard to find in high grade condition. According to the CGC census, the next highest graded copy of this book after the Church 8.0 graded copy is only a lowly graded 4.0 copy. Don't know if any other higher graded copies will be coming to market because I believe the Larson copy might have a coupon clipped out of it, or something like that. Can somebody confirm this since my copy of the Larson list is not handy right now?
  4. Or they could simply stop paying the company that's not doing it properly and start paying a company to do it properly instead. No increase in cost to them due to the offset, and hence no incremental costs to pass onto their consignired or buyers.
  5. All I can say is that whatever method they are using should be stopped and then to spend some money to come up with a better method to scan or photograph these books. I have heard from quite a few people that the books generally tend to look better in real life as compared to what shows up on CC's auction site. Shadows and off-color defects in scans that aren't actually there on the books in real life. If I was a consignor, I would not exactly be happy about this at all.
  6. Yes, but with this large number of books available all in one shot, I can imagine a lot of "non-gems" falling through the cracks. So, I believe it might be quite possible to pick up some nice non-key books at lower than expected prices if you willing to go after some of these books.
  7. Any reason why you didn't put on any bottom-feeding bids just in case this situation took place? Especially since these were Church copies of some true HTF Centaurs which might not come around again for years to come. Or were you already reasonably happy with the copies which you already owned and like the rest of us, wanting to hold back some money in hopes of winning a few of the books from Jon Berk's collection?
  8. Surprised to hear that you didn't win any of the Mile High Centaurs like the rare and HTF Star and Star Ranger comics since I thought they had gone for relatively low prices, given their pedigree status and highest graded rankings.
  9. Definitely a misleading and inaccurate indicator of the trend line for this book in this particular case here. Especially since the $12K ppp sale came only minutes after the CC $18K ppp sale which was due to a much better presenting copy relative to its assigned grade and possibly even undergraded copy of the book. Hence, if you ignore the $12K and $18K ppp sales, this book would be showing a definite and unabating uptrend in prices from around $6K in 2015 to now $10K in 2017 on a ppp basis.
  10. Like every comic book auction, there are always certain books that perform very well, while there are a few that seems to underperform. Based upon what I am seeing in the auction results here, it would appear there's an abnormally high proportion of lots that have gone for lower than what I would have expected. Most probably influenced by the upcoming Berk auction as collectors are pulling back on some of their bids in hopes of winning one or more of the Berk books. A case of way too many books to be absorbed into the marketplace at continuing record prices as evident by the many lots only selling at less than guide prices. Even hot in-demand and rare books such as Fantastic 5 and the Mile High Centaur Star's and Star Ranger's sold at what I thought were much lower than expected premiums to guide. In fact, I have even heard from a couple of less than pleased bidders winning lots with what they were intending to only be tracking bids. If I was a consignor to any of these apparent "underperforming" lots (after a 30% fee), I would certainly not be very happy.
  11. Probably more a case of how the book presents relative to grade and also how grading can vary over the years. Especially when the Heritage 3.5 copy was graded back in 2012 while the CC 3.0 copy was graded during the extremely tight GA grading time period of summer of 2016. Virtually everybody that I have communicated with feels the CC 3.0 copy presented much nicer relative to it's assigned CGC 3.0 grade, with absolutely nobody hinting that it might have been overgraded. In fact, I am aware of some board members here who were bidding on the CC 3.0 graded copy, but had no interest in bidding on the Heritage 3.5 graded copy. It looks like the final results confirmed that this same sentiment went beyond the boards here. Looks like bidders and potential buyers are now no longer blindly buying the label, and instead, are looking beyond just the label itself and also astutely buying the book.
  12. Any chance that this might in some small part be due to a possible side effect from a not so perfect pressing job?
  13. I'm pretty sure it'll sell for more than $125k, but how much is where the mystery lies Well, since Heritage just finished auction a CGC 8.5 graded copy off for $155.3K near the end of Fevbruary and CC just finished their CGC 7.5 graded copy off at $102K earlier this past week, this should put the CL 8.0 graded copy at around $130K or thereabouts. I guess it's quite obvious by now that AF 15's are certainly not rare at all by any stretch of the imagination, with all of these copies surfacing in the marketplace.
  14. Here's a link to one of the Scoop articles on the Jon Berk auction: http://scoop.previewsworld.com/Home/4/1/73/1014?articleID=191226 Since the auction is set to open on May 15th, I expect the listings should be available for all of us to see sometime next week.
  15. Yes, this past Event Auction just seem to be anti-climatic as everybody knew that the Jon Berk Collection would just be around the corner. Hopefully, this next auction will be limited to just the Berk books and not be mixed in with other regular books. That's why I find it a bit confusing with emails from them still asking for consignments from collectors so that they would be received in time for their next big auction.
  16. I assume all of us would rate just fine because it's all about enjoying and loving the comics which you have in your collection, however you choose to do it.
  17. Click here to see what board members have been saying about this once in a lifetime generational collection and some pictures of fellow collectors perusing and enjoying the books: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/411132-jon-berk-collection-to-be-auctioned/?page=8 Now, that's what true comic collecting is all about.
  18. Certainly hope this was not a MA book with this amount of defects for a 9.8 graded book. If it is, then it must have been very very loosely graded. Especially when I have seen GA books graded towards the latter part of 2016 with only the first and third of your defects noted above come back as only 8.5 graded books, even though I could not see any obvious defects from just the cover scans.
  19. Doesn't bode well for the movie to have strong legs when most movie goers and almost all reviewers are noting that although the movie be be fun, the story line is characterized by obvious weakness.
  20. If you are talking about per unit quantity basis as opposed to dollar sales, I would have to completely disagree with you on this point here. If you ever go to the regular non-media event comic conventions, my bet is that slabbed sales from a per unit quantity basis is most probably less than 1% of the total unit quantity sales at these cons. If you are talking about sales from a dollars point of view, the slabbed sales portion would definitely go up, but probably not as high as you might think.
  21. Yes, it's a simple matter of opening up the email they had sent to you a week prior to the auction for each one of their daily auction sessions. Not the one they send out on the morning of the daily auction because that will take you nowhere.
  22. Because we've got SC22 on the boards here every hour humping the book to all of us.
  23. New books only or are there also back issues at this store?
  24. They are equally tough Any tougher than the earlier and supposedly real toughies in terms of New Comics 2 and New Adventures 13? Of course, sad to say that nobody seems to want those earlier ones due to their humor related covers, as opposed to the later adventure related covers.
  25. Gator; How tough of a book is New Adventure Comics #27? Is New Adventure Comics #26 actually even tougher to find, although the cover for NA 27 looks so much nicer?
