Yes, I was watching that one too... it surprised me with that strong a finish for a book that looks about a VG+ 4.5, and not much pressing potential.

It’s a ghost. I’ve been coming across a lot of the rare Whitman DC books in the past month and zero Batman 324s. (Pics to come)

Yes, Sgt. Rock 329 and Warlord 22.

The DCCP 10 is a sort of "middle of the road" scarcity... It's definitely not easy to find, but others are a LOT harder.

The "Big 8" were all cover dated for June of 1980. Sgt. Rock 329 and Warlord 22 were bother cover dated for June of 1979, and my guess is that they were possibly sold as a 2-pack since they are both so scarce. Interestingly, DCCP 10 also comes from June of 1979 (as do a number of others).

Some collectors think Flash 274 is tough, but I’ve managed to find a few. DCCP 10 isn’t that tough but it might get more attention due to the scarcity of Sgt Rock 329. I think most that don’t feature Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman are scarcer.

  3. Anyone come across these before? Direct editions with the Curtis Circulation stamp. Maybe they didn’t print enough newsstands at the time and this was the work around

I’m fairly certain that every direct copy of Spider-Man #16 has the Curtis stamp. The most likely explanation is just that someone goofed up while they were setting up the direct editions for printing and the mistake wasn’t seen as enough of a problem to warrant the cost of pulping and re-printing them. I have definitely seen multiple other examples where the Curtis stamp was printed on the direct edition, but this is the only one that I could remember off-hand:

A lot of direct Marvels had the CC on the price section in that era (probably just forgetting to change a plate), but I find it odd that they added the stamp after the fact on the Spider-Man. (So far both 14 and 16 are the only ones of this run that I’ve noticed)

I took a look and was going to bid on the Buck Rogers book and a few others. With under 3 seconds Buck blasted into space from $30. I just laughed as it closed at $183.29. I couldn't even finish making my, much lower than selling price, bid.

Yeah. The sci-fi books did well. Most of the cartoon ones (including popeye 158 which I think is the rarest of the Whitmans) sold for less than grading costs

I'm not really looking for these price variants specifically, but I do rescue them from the wild when I see them!

My big focus these days is CGC copies of DC Whitmans, though... if you have any of those, I'd be very interested!

I only collect them raw unfortunately
