  1. Wow! That Flee is something else aint he?! Well it looks like I came in late to the BC 51 party but what a great story!! The minimalist in me kinda likes the blank panel. Made me use my brain, which is something I don't often do when reading some of these PreCode rags. Really, I would of preferred it if some of the copies that made it out had the panel. It would of been a great variant to hunt down. Beautiful art in that story by the way!
  2. And here's the missing panel from the Punch & Rudy story for ya! Woah! I figured it was supposed to end with an image like that. Why is it that the panel was empty? Was it left out of some of the copies??
  3. Black Cat #51 One of the best BC covers in my opinion! -The angle from in the water looking up at the body is so frikkin smart! -I can't say enough about the color in this one. -One of the best drawn covers from Lee Elias. -The subtle trail of blood from the poor guy's mouth leading the viewer's eye to the mill in the background. wow -Even though I got a good price for this, I'm going to need an upgrade soon!
  4. Startling Terror #7 What a bizzare and exceptionally wild cover by the great L.B. Cole! The covers alone are worth the price of admission.
  5. Hand Of Fate #14 My first ACE book and I thought it was pretty good! Most of these pre-codes form Ace seem to be underappreciated and maybe that's because of the less than stellar covers but this book at least was enjoyable. I really enjoyed the Fate "host" narrator/storyteller aspect to it. Similar to EC's 3 goulatics but a bit more original. Got this from the boards a while ago for about the price of 2 fancy Starbucks drinks! Great deal!
  6. Eerie Adventures.... Probably my favorite Ziff Davis cover!
  7. Can't wait to get a copy of this book! Congrats on the marriage Jayman! Thanks DC! How odd that this issue and story deal with marriage! Here are the begining and ending splashes from the cover story, hope you don't mind the spoiled spoiler! Bob Powell draws like a demon!! His stuff is always so sharp and animated!! Thanks for posting this Jayman! It's going to the top of the wantlist! Also, first time I noticed that cool cuffling on that cover! (thumbs u
  8. Green is the sweet spot of human vision. Visible light is made up of 7 colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet) with green being the middle color . As a result, human eyes are able to see more graduations of the color green than any other color, the main reason why night vision goggles display their output in greens. My favorite comic color is red, which is the color that is most readily recognized by our brains (it's not an accident that Stop signs are red), but I would get bored if all my comics were red. That'll explain it!
  9. "Journey Into Mystery" #5 I love this cover. -The linework is just fantastic here. -Aren't those guys in the background just too cool?! I think they were used in the later Venus covers as well! Years before old Goldilocks took over the book, we had this little gang of bones. Imagine if the title was handed over to them. Wouldn't it be cool to see them return for at least a one-shot? -Green cover! Why are green covers so popular? For me, its always been my favorite color.
  10. Can't wait to get a copy of this book! Congrats on the marriage Jayman!
  11. Chamber Of Chills #23 I consider this to be one of the best PreCode covers! A total classic and at the very least, in the top 3 or 4 of Harvey covers. I think there is an exceptional story on the inside too. I'm looking forward to cracking it out and reading it. Since this is one of my favorite covers, I waited awhile and searched for the perfect copy..... Something nice in the higher end of midgrade. I picked up this book from fellow boardie, 1stkeys! (thumbs u
  12. Beware #7 I'm catching up on some of these books and getting near the end of my PreCode starter collection. This one is special as it was a Father's Day gift from my wife, and 2 year old twins!! A big ugly monster on the cover is what they knew I'd love about it. Have they got my number or what?!
  13. Tomb Of Terror #7 This book has been to the bottom Hades and back again. A definite beater, I still consider this a great copy because I got a great deal on it. For these average, nothing too spectacular covers, I don't mind beaters. I actually think that the cover dettachment and the small tears and chips give it character. I can still read the original stories and have some money left over to put into another book. This copy even served itself up as a meal to some bugs or maybe a rat at one time. Check out the top right corner......
  14. Phantom Witchdoctor I picked this up for a good price on ebay and got another low grade reader thrown in. This is my second Avon One-Shot PreCode book and they are both great! The Kinstler art is top notch! Who would of thought he would end up going on to become one of the most in demand portrait painters in the USA? He has even painted a few presidents. Of course these early works have an energy all their own that doesn't exist in his formal work! For those who do not know, Kinstler apprenticed under James Montgomary Flagg, the illustrator of the "I Want You! " poster for the US Army. Kinstler's pen and ink style took direct inspiration from Flagg who drew inspiration from Charles Dana Gibson.
  15. Uncanny Tales #27 Picked this up a few weeks back on the boards. Really nice reader copy for a nice price! Creepy PreCode houses..... The story featuring the haunted house inside is very well done. The highlight of the book!
  16. Great timing on that Out Of Shadows #8! I just picked mine up off ebay a couple months back. It's seen better days and the cover is detached, but aside from that the cover holds a nice gloss with color and the pages are great. Best part is I only paid $46 for it. This is a classic cover and the first book I had pointed out to me by a dealer many years ago as an example of "non-EC" Pre-Code horror. I remember saying, "You mean there were other horror comics other than EC?" I looked at the copy and asked him how much it was. He was told me it was around $300. It definitely planted the seed because I've been having a blast discovering these other Pre-Code publishers!
  17. Awesome looking book for a great price!! Another Johnny Craig classic cover!!
  18. Here's my list. Can you add any? Ace Web Of Mystery #8 ACG Adventures into the Unknown #33 Atlas Adventures Into Terror #15 Atlas Marvel Tales #105 Atlas Uncanny Tales #26 Avon Witchcraft #3 Harvey Witches Tales #12 Standard Out Of The Shadows #10 Star Publications Startling Terror Tales #11 Weird Comics #18 Ah......I can! You left out one of the best! My first PreCode book.... Startling Terror #11 Nope, I had that listed and already have that covered! OOops! My overlook! Sorry! I guess I really just wanted to see that book posted again. By the way that is one impressive copy!! From the San Jose pedigree.....?
  19. Oh yeah, and look at the centering on that #24!!!! Perfect! Were file copies of this book released? I read somewhere that high grade is almost impossible for this book.
  20. One of my favorites, and a Gerber no-show for some reason. Here is my copy, picked up from Motor City a couple of years ago. Hadn't seen a nice copy for sale before, and haven't see one since. That is one sweet book! Nicest copy I've ever seen of #24!! I'm gonna go dry my eyes on my copy.......

  22. Nice books Jayman!! I too have that sub collection of giant spider covers going. There are a ton of them!!
  23. Journey Into Fear #14 Got this book along with the Chamber Of Chills #24. I put in another low bid and was surprised to of gotten it for just under $15. My first Superior book and it has some very strange stories. None of them were easy to predict and I loved that! I've heard this and other great things about Superior form the TTTTT books and from this thread. I am only one issue in, but I will be putting more on the want list. Jury Of The Undead...
  24. Chamber Of Chills #24 Got this beat up copy off the bay for a pretty good deal. Just under $30. Its a solid book with wear but the pages are nice and its held together real solid! This is a tough book to find in a decent grade from what I've heard. I put in a low bid and was suprised when I got it! I've said it before, Lee Elias is becoming one of my favorite PreCode Ink slingers! Definitely in my top 5! This cover rocks!! Disgusting Pre-Code Fingernails...
  25. I'd say maybe both! The story relating to the eyeballs was a weird one. It definitely had a confusing ending....Oh well! It was probably a rush job!
