  5. What an amazing copy! Sharp book! This is one of my favorite WF covers. I love the large panel showing the moon surface, the linework and color...just a great example of EC's SciFi output!
  6. Awesome pickup! Still need to find me a copy sometime this decade!
  7. Artboy, Nice batch of books and many of them Precode Keys as well! The Startling Terror #11 was my first PreCode and one of my favorites. The best part about these books I have found is how different all of the publishers were from each other. Some ripped each other off and there are repeating storylines but in terms of design, artwork and writing, I find it varies the deeper I dig into this area of comic history. Good stuff!
  8. Here's another important book which many of you know is widely considered the first horror comic which became a series. Published approx. 2 years after Avon's Eerie #1 one-shot, Adventures Into The Unknown eventually settled into stories that were pretty tame and boring compared to some of their competitor publishers like Gilmour, EC or Comic Media. That said, there are some gems in there and I think this is one of them. Lots of slick artwork and stories inside. -There isn't anything particularly horrific going on with the cover here. I think the appeal lies in the anticipation and restraint. I applaud this artistic approach. -Solid drawing and great choice of colors! -Being a father of twins, the bats on the cover are a nice touch! -This is my first book from the Northford pedigree. I read that many of these books have a cool "X" stamp on the back cover which I included a scan of.
  9. Wow! Great book to start off with! Congrats and welcome to the goulish side of collecting GA!
  10. Awesome book along with the Ditko one! I just got a copy of this book too. Nice stories inside! Lou Morales had a really nice style when it came to his cover designs. Many of them are foreground- framed with a cast of characters and props like this one here. Just look at that creepy purple creature with the yellow lips! Total Morales creation!
  11. I've been trying to get my hands on one of these for the last year. No luck yet. I love the Black Magic books...the Kirby/Simon team had a unique take on the preCode horror craze! Congrats on the great looking stack of books! I recently picked up Strange Mysteries 8,9, 10 per your recommendation. Awesome run of stories indeed!
  12. Nice one!! I love the reptile theme! Reminds me of one of my favorite TV shows as a kid, V! Campy yes, but it had such a nice horrific element to it. Plus, a pre-Freddy Kruger Robert Englund as the veggie eating lizard deserter! The new series on ABC ain't half bad either! Ok, enough nonsense chatter from me, back to talking about comics...This is one cool Mystic cover! Are the stories inside solid?
  13. The comment I got from the few folks who saw the book raw at Mega-Con was that it looked "wet" and "like it was printed yesterday". So, yes, very glossy. (thumbs u Wow! Beautiful book George! Congrats on picking up that book. Precodes over 9.0 are so rare. Great cover too!
  14. How about a classic PreCode cover to dig this undead thread from the grave? After keeping my eyes peeled for about a year, I can finally check this elusive book off the list! I wouldn't say this is my favorite Precode cover, (it's not even my favorite Mister Mystery cover. That would be #11) but it definitely is classic and most would agree it is pretty horrific! -I love the colors in this one, especially the red lettering in the logo, contrasting with the sickly greenish-blue skin tones of the host. -The exaggerated sweat reminds me of Rudy Palais but this cover was done by the great Bernard Baily I believe. -If you look back and imagine the rest of the head of this poor guy, you'll see that his eye has been drawn way too large in proportion to the rest of his head. (Reminds me of a character in the film District 9) I have no problem with this! I think it adds to the strangeness of the cover art!
  15. Yes indeed here he is hanging around again.... Outstanding composition by Craig! For some reason that always reminds of the entrance room at Disney's Haunted Mansion. OMG! This will forever make me think that when I go now... Yes! That is what that reminds me of too. The stretching room from the Haunted Mansion! I'm ashamed, as an Orlando resident, that I never picked up on that. Nice observation!
  16. Well done!! Definitely in the top ten horror covers of all time! Total key! Congrats!
  17. That Web Of evil is one great expressive cover! Jack Cole sure could sling that ink around. I've never seen that Ingels cover. It's totally him though, look at the faces! Good luck with the sale! (thumbs u
  18. Well the book arrived today and judging from the lack of visible defects on the scan I figured there would be either a bunch of tiny and or small flaws or a big one on the back. The book has 3-4 minor flaws but I dont think that it warrants knocking it down to a F+. 2 dinged lower corners that are visible in the scan one small crease just above the lamp on the front cover and one tiny chip at the top. The BC is flawless and it has white pages. There are just a few very light creases on the spine. I would grade the book higher myself and Im picky. Ive heard that CGC had some pretty harsh grades the first few years and this book has the older label. Im wondering if I should re-submit it. If I do should I crack it out of the slab and send it fresh or send it slabbed??? I just wonder if the old grade affects how they would re-grade it? Regardless Im super happy with the book the colors are so vivid and rich like a Gaines File copy (I used to own a File Copy of this issue). Welcome to the boards! Congrats on picking up an awesome book! I love those EC issues and Ghastly is one of my favorite comic artists. I haven't gotten a Gaines File Copy yet but it's on my wantlist!
  19. Thanks for the comments! I was waiting for you to chime in Jimbo! I know you've got a really sharp copy and appreciate how hard this book is to find in decent shape.
  20. Menace #1 I finally got one of these! This is a tough issue to find. I've only seen a handful of these over the last year and most were falling apart or suffered from color touch. I am very happy to of held out for the right copy. The book is in great shape for my reader collection (maybe a little too nice) and the pages are pretty close to white! Here's to double trouble in the graveyard!
  21. Rick Starr, That Mister Mystery #13 is on my list for one of the best all around PreCode issues ever. Awesome stories in there including "The Gossips!"! The Thing is a nice looker too.
  22. Who wrote that dialogue? You can hear the violins in the background... I hear you! That is one nice drawing though. The composition is totally rocking on this cover too! What's up with the red splatter on the boulder though? Little touch o horror in there!
