  1. Worlds Of Fear #10 Another book from Shiverbones! (thumbs u This is one solid copy. What more can be said about this classic? -I love how Norman Saunders painted covers have lots of life and energy to them. Many painted covers I see tend to get caught up in rendering and sometimes become just a pretty picture. Saunders really keeps a nice sense of emotion and animation to his characters. -Those white eye sockets are pretty weird huh? Wonder how they would look if they were black-dark gray....Although the white sockets as they are give the appearance of solid bone, as if the dude never had any eyes... -Having the figure on a diagnol, adds to the tension. -Anyone else reminded of the Raiders of the Ark scene with the giant boulder?
  2. Congrats on the reunion!! A beauty of a book. Love those really wild colors...looks almost radioactive!! What sub category does this cover fall into? Is it "Pandora" or just "Box"?
  3. Weird Terror #4 My first Comic Media book and first Don Heck cover. Courtesy of our own Shiverbones! (thumbs u I really like Don Heck's art on these and the Horrific issues. I love the bold line and simplicity of these portrait style covers. Really effective!
  4. "City Of The Living Dead" I'm looking forward to picking up more of these Avon one-shot horror books. Nice thing that has been said about these is, buy the one book, and you've completed the series! This is a great copy for a great price, with a hard-to-find book IMO. Off the boards from our very own Pinball!
  5. Black Magic #17 and #20 Picked these up at the last Virtual Comic Convention. My first Black Magic books (aside from the 70's reprints) and they did not dissapoint. The thing I like best about these, other than having the King "Kirby"'s hand in it, was that these stories have a real different flavor than their neighboring books. I really like the bizarre storylines and the fact that many are based off of true accounts! Great books and I can't wait to pick up some more of these!
  6. "The Thing!" #7 I finally broke down and picked this book up after hearing so many horrible things about it! (mostly from Shiverbones! ) It is my first Thing book and I gotta say it pretty much lived up to the hype. This cover is one of the most gruesome I have ever seen on a comic and I must say that I really didn't like it when I first saw it. However it is a book that has grown on me, and one I can't easily forget. I think Lou Morales is an amazing artist and that the Gorgon Lady's fingernails are embedded perfectly into those eye sockets! Probably in the top 5 best PreCode covers!
  7. "Startling Terror" #14 Another wicked cool L.B. Cole cover. It has nothing on my Startling Terror #11 copy, my first Pre-Code original , but it's still an eye-catching book. This was a suprise pickup and a bit of a sad one too. I was in Gainesville Florida a few weeks ago for a complicated surgery on one of my Welsh Corgis and I wandered into a LCS near the hospital to take my mind off the sad day while I waited for her. The store had sports cards too and was filled with mostly moderns. Just as I lost hope for any GA horror, I saw this one on the wall. Its got a few bangs on it but its a solid copy with great color and supple pages. Must of been an import and not a Florida native book. I was going to pass when I saw the $65 price tag. The owner was very nice and ended up giving me the book for $30. Not a bad find to brighten up the rough week.
  8. That George Evans could do one hell of a drawing!! As a draftsman, he was on par with the best of the EC artists. He also created some pretty intense covers like this one here. Great looking book!!
  9. Hey Christian, I showed this to you briefly at the Creature-Con but it is page 26 from your Horrific #2 comic. My first pre-code original art. I remember that!! Beautiful artwork! It's nice that the page alone tells a great part of the story. (thumbs u
  10. Journey Into Unknown Worlds #23 This was another pickup from HeroesCon and also the first book I've bought from Bob Beerbohm. I havn't really given Atlas too much attention so far, maybe because they seem like such a mountain of books to collect....(400+ PreCodes according to TTTTT) This issue really had some great stories in it along with some nice artwork. Even though EC ruled the roost, its so refreshing to see other publisher's takes on the genre, especially when the stories aren't so bogged down with text boxes. I am very much a fan of the "less-is-more" school as it pertains to using text in comics. If the art says it, why be redundant with a text box? Many stories can be read just fine by looking at the art and reading the dialogue balloons...
  11. I've been trying to slow down with picking up books until I've read through the stack I've already purchased, but it ain't going so well! Horrific #2 My first Horrific book, my first book from Dale Roberts, and a purchase from my first trip to Heroes Con this year! With all those firsts, I should of gotten a copy of issue #1 instead, huh? Here's another demented cover. I havn't read the insides yet but they seem promising from first flip thru. I love the reds and yellows on this thing. Creepy beasts with puppets...
  12. Wow! Never seen that book before! If this is a horror book, it predates Eerie #1 , right?
  13. Strange Stories From Another World #2 This book was recommended by Shiverbones many posts ago. It features a story he posted about a man who couldn't die and had his head twisted around in 180 degrees. The cover is also pretty twisted and a bit unsettling to me. I usually like to see animals getting the upperhand against man. I am always impressed at how often high quality illustration artwork can move people on an emotive level. Another gem by Norm Saunders! This is my first Fawcett book and I finally get to experience the excellent metallic shine on the cover image. Hard to explain and impossible to capture with scans, these rag covers have a glow about them. Very cool!
  14. I agree with adamstrange here. It definitely looks like an Allan Anderson. Did Schomburg ever even work in oils? I thought he just worked in ink line.....
  15. Terrors Of The Jungle #4 L.B. Cole at it again! The blood dripping from the beasts claw won me over! This is another beat-to-hell copy but I got it for a trade plus a good deal on it!
  16. Terrors Of The Jungle #17 A pick up from my LCS. They didn't have too many Pre-Codes, but I found this ugly shoved in a modern bag, all beat to hell. Looked like it needed a good home. It was marked $24 but I got it for less with my discount. All in all, a pretty rough copy but still able to be handled. Staples were pure rust and I replaced them, but the 3 centerfolds suffered damaged and are now loose along with the cover. But the book is complete. I like getting a good deal on my books when I can and of course love getting high grade when I have the chance, but for most of my copies, they are readers / beaters. I really like my covers and all pages to be attached, but lately I've noticed with GA, alot of good deals can be had if a staple or both has popped....I'm thinking that when it comes to mid-low grade GA readers, you just gotta take what you can get. What do you all think?
  17. No, there are others. After a quick look here are some, there maybe more. Crime SuspenStories #26 Tales From the Crypt #44 Vault of Horror #40 Vault of Horror #37 Vault of Horror #36 And of course this one! I never noticed the bone(?) jutting out of the side of that poor guy's neck. Man, that looks disturbing!!
  18. Just realized somethin! This cover is a full bleed, even going off the top of the page!! Is this the only one to do so?
  19. Amazing Adventures #5 I guess babes in skimpy outfits are ok on other planets. The Crater-Men sure seem to be fans!
  20. Amazing Adventures #3 The great Norman Saunders! Nuff said!
  21. Amazing Adventures #2 -This and #4 are my favorite AA covers! -Awesome colors! -Green dress, or bikini I guess! - That creature is friggin gross. -This cover represents a story inside about an intergalactic zoo that is very similar to a Twilight Zone episode. Wonder which came first?
  22. Amazing Adventures #1 Great painted cover! These are more SciFi than Horror...still though, that dude is rather bloody. -Great weird colors coming out of the ship and billowing into smoke. -The woman seems more like a statue or a mirage than a real person.
  23. Nightmare #2 Another stunner from Ziff-Davis! I picked up a bunch of these in a lot from Heritage that I'm going to post up now... That is one hideous Mermaid! Green fingers... Also, more bad PreCode Teeth!
  24. Web Of Evil #4 I did a drawing and traded it for this book at a small show here in Orlando. The cover is detached and the top corner is reattached with tape but aside from that, its a beautiful book with white pages! The cover still has tons of gloss too! If someone told me it was a banged up Church copy I'd believe it. Are the markings on the cover consistent? Something I'll keep an eye out for. Anyway, this is my only "Quality" book. The bodies falling out the beast's mouth is what sold me on it.
  25. Those are some seriously sweet books there! Lawbreakers #11....
