Our Recent Experience Selling Comics Through Mycomicshop
letsgrumble replied to thehumantorch's topic in Comics General
I reached out to Este about 4 years ago and bombarded her with questions regarding consignments. She took the time to answer everything and her responses led me to believe MyComicShop had the right people to work with. Fast forward to this past November and December, I shipped out four boxes of slabs (not all at once) that I had purged from my collection years ago. I've set fixed prices, sent some to their Prime Auction, and more to weekly auctions. You're given a lot of control using their platform. I've sold 34 books so far! I love it! -
When I was organizing my collection a few years ago, multiple copies of the same issue began clustering together for issues that I'd buy over time that had some nostalgic appeal to me. For example:

Got my Defenders stash out: Managed to get Len Wein to sign a bunch of them. And I waited a long time in line for Sal Buscema to sign some too but he took off before it was my turn. Never had the opportunity again.

Another way of looking at it is that film and television are now being driven by another medium. Both audiences are cross-fertilizing to generate more interest and money into characters seen on screen and in print. I don't find it insulting, but as a collector I wish I had bought all those key first appearances when they were affordable.

So here's a book that I purchased in 2015. The striking appeal of the book when purchased was how white the cover was. Here's a scan from 2015: After acquiring the book, it was immediately placed in a Mylite 2 with acid-free fullback, and inserted into a 4 mil. Mylar "Archives" sleeve, then placed with other books in a magazine-sized box in a dehumidified storage area. So from a preservation standpoint, I've checked off all the boxes... except for one thing: I did not insert any buffer paper between the cover and the interior newsprint paper. When pulling out the book today, I notice the cover discoloured as compared to before (maybe I'm imagining it but I don't think so). By deduction, the acids in the interior newsprint would seem to be the primary cause as I did not place any buffer paper between the front and back cover to divide the interior. I have since placed buffer paper in this book. I am conteplating doing this with other books (like I need another project). But the question here is: do any of you use any type of MicroChamber or buffer paper for your books? Is the lack thereof even the cause? What do YOU do to keep your white covers white?

It's the company that doesn't put the final QC check in place issue. Need to have someone in position to give the final red light or green light. If anyone slips up, then... -

That variant cover was used by the Royal Canadian Mint for a $20 collectable coin in 2013 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Superman. But it was used for the packaging; not on the actual coin.
