  1. Thank you. And I remember buying Captain Canuck #1 off the shelf as a kid!
  2. On the shortlist this year was to finally complete a run of Captain Britain. These aren't too common in North America. But I managed to acquire nearly all of them last week from good ol' Doug Sulipa in Winnipeg. Now just missing #8. Big Ben maze: *** Bonus section. Here's a recipe to store your Marvel UK comix: Custom "fullbacks" ... local supplier did this for me. 11.5-inches in height instead of the standard 11-inches: BCW magazine board. Just doesn't work: Custom board: MyLite2 standard magazine sleeve: Archives 950R, luckily acquired before the supply-chain issues: Sweeeet fit in the magic of Mylar: Awesome Red Skull cover: Ohhh yeah: Lookin' good Captain Brit. Sexy stack.
  3. I've done the same thing. I purchased 4 slabs from mycomicshop through eBay about 10 years ago. But after realizing I could have purchased for less through the site, I thought I must have been in the extreme minority.
  4. One thing that surprises me since I began selling books on MyComicShop is the number of people who make their purchases via eBay instead of going directly to the site and paying less there. Without tabulating my relatively small sample size, I'm guessing it's about 30%-35%.
  5. Very sad to learn this. I've crossed paths with Andrew only a few times. Very friendly and full of conversation - great guy.
  6. Just checked my history and the URL string indicates my reply failed: My grades were/would have been 1) 3.0; 2) 2.5; 3) 7.0; 4) 8.5; and 5) 9.8. See you in the next tourney.
  7. I actually replied to your PM at about 7:30 p.m. with my grades but when I checked the results and saw that nothing was recorded next to my name, I checked my reply in the PM and it is gone.
  8. And now it's MORE time and money to get these books graded! Also, if you ever need to liquidate these books quickly, slabbed books are so much easier to sell.
  9. Most quality control issues we see in this thread from mislabelling books to leaving debris in the case are annoying but can be rectified. But damaging a book like this is inexcusable.
  10. From the consignments I sent out in December, I just sold my 50th book last night!
  11. We should have a quality control grading contest. Is it the CGC hologram sticker over the custom label image that someone paid for? No, that's the way they always do it. Is the label text not aligned properly? No, that's normal for custom labels too. Is it the lack of notation re Frank Miller's first work on Daredevil? Look, that's gotta go if you want the Spidey picture on the label... No one picked up that this is the JCPenney reprint? Final quality control score = 2.0. Gets a grade bump for no cracks or chips on the slab.
  12. I have a lot of sad stories. Here's one of them for you: I worked in a bookstore at the end of high school and through my undergrad in the late-80s-early 90s. I worked close to full-time hours so I would handle all the deliveries that came in. News agencies would make deliveries daily but I knew bundles of comics would come in Mondays and Thursdays. For five years I routinely cherry-picked comics I wanted in the best condition available from each bundle, placed them in bags and boards, and bought a stack when I got paid. These were all newsstands (but to be honest I didn't get them because they were newsstands; it was what was available to me). Because I was living at home, then began moving frequently when I was in university, I kept these books in longboxes stored in a closet at my parent's home so I wouldn't have to lug them all over the place. These comics were stored with a few other sets I had from the mid-70s to early-80s (but not all of them). After buying a house and getting married, I decided to consolidate my collection by moving the comics stored at my parent's house for 15 years into my house. However, they were all gone. I found out my younger brother sold them all. He told me he sold them for $800! I said that I would've paid him double not to sell them. He just kept saying to me he needed the money so I should understand. I'm sure most of it is considered drek but man that was hand-picked beautiful drek methodically collected over half a decade --- all gone.
  13. What's wrong with this picture? Let's see... comic books are no where mentioned on CGC's main page... trading cards are now in the menu bar while comics are not.... CGC is attending a sports card show but no future comic conventions that I'm aware of... and there's a quick two-week turnaround for card submissions. It's almost like my girlfriend of 20 years has packed my bags, changed the locks, and has been seen around town with some young jock who likes hockey cards but hasn't dropped the bomb to tell me to move out yet. I get the hint.
  14. Trading cards just kinda unexpectedly plopped into the comics forum one day, didn't they?
  15. Now that we've had a taste of what no quality control is like, CGC is ready to introduce a new submission form that will have a $5 checkbox to include quality control with your submission. And an extra $2 to run a spell check.
  16. His art in Kick A S S really kicked A S S. Loved his work on those books.
  17. I like your thinking. Next round I'm going to claim 15 spots, keep the best one and sell off the rest.
  18. The grade date is May 29, 2020! I was expecting it to be more recent, thinking some time in the later half of 2021. So when did quality control at CGC really begin to fall off the rails?
  19. Was in the midst of rationalizing storage for my magazine-sized Marvel UK reprints and, here we have it, a complete run of Rampage 1-34!
