  1. Congratulations to all the winners of books. Some stellar copied won by boardies. Im glad serval board members won books. A fear I had was that one collector (more than likely a Church book collector) would win all or a vast majority. Nice that many will get to enjoy part of the run. In a way we were all winners by getting to watch a historic group of books offered to the public. It was a very entertaining auction night to say the least, lots of spirited bidding.
  2. My only win from Heritage November auction. I have always like The short Lana run and 3 is probably my favorite cover. I really like the bright variety of colors. Hard to believe this 6.0 is the highest graded, but here it is.
  3. Spectacular accomplishment. The teaser pic looks great, excited to see post pic of each book.
  4. Not to curtail any of this Church Planet talk, but here is my newest planet. Excited to own this one. Always liked the monster on the cover and the coolness of the bubble helmets on both the man and the girl. The varied colors also appeal to me on this one, bright yellow green and purples make this a bold cover to me. I have seen many 42’s in my day and this issue seems to be prone to a mis-wrap. This one does not have this and is centered nicely. Many show in the bottom left “Lave of the hydra” instead of “Slave of hydra” as the S is in the spine or back cover area. Mid-wrapped ones also cut off viewing of several of girls fingers. This one also seems to have above average coloring, not red, but nice and strong.
  5. New book I received this weekend. I am really reopening my eyes to these early Jungle covers lately. My first FH Double Cover. I am tempted to free this one to see if the second cover has bright colors like the exterior copy minus the dust shadow to the right. Either way, I am excited to own a new to me Zolnerowich cover.
  6. This statement may be blasphemous, but I am in awe of the condition of the group as a whole and at the same time underwhelmed by the coloring on many issues.
  7. Some FH books have great covers and mediocre interiors, but Fight 37 is a gem from cover to cover.
  8. I have been told there is NOT a 65 church copy in the auction. We will all have to dream about what the church copy looks like and hope it comes up somewhere somehow sometime in our lifetimes.
  9. 13 is rather elusive. Owning a 13 is quite an accomplishment. One of the best covers IMO. Yours looks very nice
  10. They will all be cgc copies. The census may not be updated with all of them at this time.
  11. Jeff glad to see your post. Happy you are back posting
  12. I agree 35 is a tough one. Nice upgrade. I think I like all the Jumbo gorilla covers.
  13. Interesting thought on the timing of Planet 17 printing and history of Pearl Harbor. I think the timing of these two events don’t combine to cause a variation of colors. In my travels, Planet comics 1-3 and 66-73 have pretty consistent cover coloring. Starting with 4 on up I have seen a wide variance of coloring. There are several ideas as to why, but I think it is a combination of many factors. Among those is the printing process used by FH. Many books seem to be missing a true red and is represented by what is lovingly called ‘Fiction House Orange’. In some cases it seems to me that some books that were meant to be some form or red ended up orange due to printing process or bad inking. I have seen several FH books where the top of the book looks reddish only to fade to orange near the bottom of the book. Like in the printing process it was running out of red and it thinned out to orange. We all love to talk about reds (or lack of), but many books lack blue or green which give them totally different looks. Flex had a Planet 12 that makes almost all other 12’s blue background look all washed up. This lack of consistent printing standards has over time shown a wide variance in cover colors. This has also fueled today’s collectors to hope for deep reds when in fact they may have never been planned that way and do not exist. Planet 26 I think was planned to be a deep orange, never red. Take Planet 15 for instance, many would love to see a red dress. I feel it doesn’t exist. On the back on my Rangers 2 it shows Planet 15. Look how reddish the upper FH bullseye are and the Jungle title. Now look how orange the planet book is. Reddish and orange on the same cover. The same orange is in the rangers banner and see how light it is next to the above bullseye. In hand , the rangers banner is the same color as the Planet rivers AND a completely different color than the jungle title and bullseyes. I may be rambling at this point, but wanted to communicate that FH books of all colors are great and that there a few ‘albatross’ issues out there where the coloring makes you wonder how that happened. The standard should not be set by these albatrosses but wonder at their uniqueness while still giving full appreciation to the ‘regular printing’ of each issue.
  14. It is Filter81 from the boards who has it for sale. $2,500. It was still for sale on Saturday, but I can’t guarantee it made it to today. Good luck, 15 is elusive.
  15. I am with you on this. Over the last decade of my Planet collecting, 15’s have come up from time to time. It almost seems that they come up in waves. A 3.0 might come up and then in the next 2 months it’s hammer price will drive out a 2.5 Purple label and a 1.5 (for example). I have seen twice as many 15’s as I have 13’s for sale. Now 14’s just don’t come up very often and when they do, IMO it is worth it to go from a 3.0 to a 5 or 6 (9.2 is Highest and two 6.0 are the next highest). The chance to upgrade is extremely limited. In my opinion, 13,14, and 15 are all tough to find and even tougher to locate for sale. The place where these books are truly rare is in higher condition. That’s right, I used the often overused and unsubstantiated R word... but in this case it truely applies as fact not just an empty opinion. IMO 5.0 and up is high condition for these 13 , 14 , and 15. I’d be interested in other opinions on these 3 issues too.
