  1. MATH TEACHERS, hah! 😀 If I may: There once was a book that had faded Had it faded before it was graded? "No it hadn't!", I said (and with fervor, I pled) "Can no board member here be persuaded?!"
  2. The plastic tabs that jokiing mentioned are on the left and the bottom in your slab and they're permanent. Centering thick books goes something like this:
  3. I can't think of a reason to send multiple individual shipments to the same place at the same time when they can all go in one box. If the order was so big that it was forced into multiple boxes, you would note what you're doing and label the boxes accordingly (1 of 3, 2 of 3...)
  4. Edit: oh, THOSE poly-bags, my bad.
  5. It can be plain irresponsible over the internet!
  6. I'm glad I didn't have to wait long for the correct reply 🥳
  7. And you get to not enjoy it while the value declines. What a mess that contract looks like I bet. I guess you're the owner and he's the manager? No idea.
  8. and you're just gonna leave us with that pic?! (And what's the backstory on this gerber nugget acquisition?!)
  9. I had to stop watching as soon as I witnessed the pinching and tugging. Maybe that's standard handling for moderns, but delicate, open hands and literal gravity are required here. Congrats to the owner though.
  10. I wish I'd saved the scan of the comic I'm thinking of. Sometime between 2013 and 2018, MCS sold a 181 with a notable defect: Wolverine had been removed from the cover with UnCaNnY precision! I don't know if the absence counts as ironic, but it's certainly tragic. Any chance you remember that cover and can post it, Conan? @mycomicshop
  11. Free re-holders are a loss, so it makes sense for the priority to be closing the ticket.
  12. Awesome comic. You unfortunately can't pick blue or green; "up to the grader" is the policy, post-it note included or not. Competitors should not be used for slabbing unsigned books if the intent is to resell. Depending on the comic, we're talking 50% or less of the equivalent CGC graded slab, with key comics being less miserable though. Why? Competitor slabs don't match the rest of people's collection, the number grade is de-emphasized, and kids straight-up refuse to buy them. The competitor's verification service, not a service CGC offers and therefore I can safely say not in direct competition for and can be spoken of, is excellent. If you're selling on MCS, you do have a chance at selling a verified slab because it's verified. You paid for the service and took the risk of it coming back a no-go and people (including me) will pay for that. If it's a verified book then I'm buying the signature and its verification, especially if the underlying human has gone off to join the bleedin' choir invisible.
  13. To add to Joey's reply (consider his the final word on pressing), "reversion" shows up a lot whether it should or not, particularly in the work of amateurs who rush. In those situations, whether the book remains free or gets locked up, the comic will continue to take revenge for its gross deformation until the pulp-lust is satisfied!
  14. Hi, I'm curious why you're considering this method instead of using one box?
  15. I recently helped someone assess their childhood comic book collection which remained untouched for thirty years. This note was found inside the sealed box and the owner was happy to let me share it on the forum. Hope you enjoy: Dear future (me) - For a few years, and beginning around '87, your friends and you read and collected comic books. You began when (friend) interested you in a title called "the X-men" which was very popular and branched out into as many titles as Marvel Comics could get kids to buy. That got a little childish and you became interested in more 'mature' titles, such as Watchmen, Sandman and Akira. Many comics you bought purely for investment purposes. Punisher limited series you got for under a quarter each at a toy store, and it is now worth a lot, maybe $14 or so. The comics with cardboard backings should be worth a little more. Batman, the Killing Joke is 1st print, and should be worth something, as well as 4 Batmans called "A Death in the Family". I bought these for cover price, and they quickly shot up to $100 for the four of them, but are no longer worth that. I changed the subject of this letter from you to me, whoops. Captain America 337 should be worth something because he quits in that issue. Many comics are worth more because something special happened in them. The bulk of my comics were purchased for very little in the attempt to build up a collection. I did enjoy reading some of them, and even if I only get about half of what they are worth, I should make some profit. The bags are supposed to be replaced every few years, but I don't think it makes such a difference. If you would enjoy finding out about how much these things are worth, buy a price guide, (the most popular now is the Overstreet guide) and judge their condition. I would urge you to hold onto them. They should keep rising in value, and though they do take up a lot of space, they would be a neat thing to hand down to kids and grandkids. Please don't take them out to read without first checking their value. Some really may be worth quite a bit - who knows. Store them away from sunlight and in a dry area. Use common sense. Don't handle them roughly. Avoid fires. 8/8/91 (me)
  16. Good point about taking the label into account. Kind of similar is when someone comes on here saying that sun-fading is an error variant, my first thought is "flip the book". If the comic is only faded on the front, then... And yes, nice rhyme 👍
  17. I know we all asked Robert_L if these were still 9.8s, but I guess he answered that preemptively. If removal messes up the book then it's supposed to be re-graded (free of charge!), so maybe they just skip that inconvenience on ReHolders and fast track them right back out the door. Those ticks are massive, yeah, but don't worry about resale Robert if that's a concern. Kids buy slabs, not comics! 😀
  18. ...and who knows if it's legit anyway, which is even worse. "STAN LEE'S PERSONAL TAILOR. SS UNNECESSARY"
  19. Their public policy may be It's Up To The Grader, but I have yet to see a "Jack Kirby written..." that wasn't Blue. At first I thought this might be related to eminence, but I've decided that the Green label is essentially a warning: "Hey now, we see what you're doing; the guy's still breathing, buddy. To avoid future disappointment, we gently encourage you to participate in one of our not-at-all-profitable Private Signings."
  20. Could there have been color finagling on these Heritage scans? Maybe, but still a good example of the predicament!
