Comiclink, Comic Connect, Heritage, etcetera... Wins...
Grendel72 replied to Buzzetta's topic in Comics General
Wow congrats ! That's a cool historic cover. The horse looks weird tho, crossed with a raptor. -
Yup. As evidenced by the price of a 181 vs 180 book. There is a premium for nostalgia that we are more willing to pay for. So regardless where and how many times Gambit appeared before, 266 will always be the prize if someone wanted his first appearance. Would be cool if the pages for 180 and 181 both come up in the same auction, then we would really know...that 181 would blow 180 out of the water.

Is MJ is (more) important than Wilt or Bill ? Time has a way of revising "facts". Spiderman is definitely way more popular than Supes now, tho AC1 is the big bang of the comicverse. Rly thinks its reasonable to say that AF15 is as important, just perhaps in its relatability and commercial appeal.

We can definitely postulate what a comic might sell for based on historical data. We just can't say what a comic would sell for definitively.

Totally get what you're saying. All the $$$$ issues aside, in many ways, at the heart of it, many of us (myself included) have forgotten what got us started collecting comics and art. And to see such pages kind of rekindles that fire. I wonder how many of us have actually read Action 1, Batnan1 or Tec 27, even those who own copies.
-
But it may make sense for those who are holding onto coverless copies especially incomplete ones ?

Amazing Fantasy 15
Grendel72 replied to Madbeezy's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I wouldn't. Just have it graded . A possible 2.0. And safe and snug in a case. The torn piece isn't totally detached so don't see why cgc wouldn't slab it with care to ensure the piece fits neatly. -
Spider-Man: No Way Home SPOILERS WELCOMED thread
Grendel72 replied to Bosco685's topic in The Movie Forum
ASM 2 with Doc Ock still reigns supreme for me for character and plot development. But this was a fun ride. The first half was a a bit droll though and seemed rushed. 2nd half was enjoyable. Dafoe used his craggly face to optimal effect ( unlike in Body of evidence) . Have one question. At the end when strange is trying to prevent earth from letting in other multiverse characters enter, we see some shadowy figures. Anyone know who they were..They seemed almost celestial sized. -

Hi , i have a few golden age coverless books and if I was thinking of breaking up the book and slabbing some of the pages, how should I go about determining FMV ? If say the book was 10k then slabbing the book would be 3% of FMV and so around 300. If the book had 30 pages , should I just divide the costs up equally ? But not all pages are equal? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

The movie was bad , really bad. Casting wise Awkwafina may not have been the best choice artistic wise but her comedy, Awkwafina is Nora from Queens isn't half bad.

Art bought at auction still in seller's gallery
Grendel72 replied to New School Fool's topic in Original Comic Art
Hi, no malice in my query but I'm just curious, why does this bother you so much, especially as you admit you're a black hole collector. I presume you won't be putting it up in your CAF if you have one. At least this way we can continue to see the art on another person's CAF. -
Frank Miller dropped from Thought Bubble over Holy Terror...
Grendel72 replied to SuperBird's topic in Comic Events
Things like this are getting wearisome. If indeed Holy Terror was myopic and skewed in its depiction, then why not boycott the publisher and all those involved in the project as well ? Why only pick on Frank ? He didnt't print those books in his basement. And let's be consistent, those who claim that Holy Terror painted a particular religion in broad strokes without nuance, are doing the same to Frank by labelling him a bigot. He has already apologised. Let's move on. This pc culture is draining us off opportunities to discus serious issues in any depth. I fear we are inexorably limping towards intellectual flaccidity. -
Guess the counter to that is we should be thankful that someone who doesn't need the money is willing to male the time to sign autographs for fans ? Not saying the $400 is worth her signature. That will be determined by market forces. Harrison Ford signatures are going for $1500 ? Its madness but I guess someone is willing to cough up the $$$$.

Congrats ! Getting a no 1 in completing any run is usually the hardest and you've done that already. Awesome.

Was super fortunate to get this between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas, an age undreamed of.

Ah great. Sorry my bad . Glad you have done your research. I was looking at gocollect figures. Would give it a 9.4 to 9.6 for the scuff marks.
-
Don't mean to be a downer but these (and your xmen in another post) are 100 dola books in 9.8. If your reasons for grading them are for sentimental reasons then go for it. But if its for selling , then good to calculate the costs first. May not be worth it
