  1. Replied to my WTB thread. Gave me a great price on a fantastic looking book. Shipped quickly and well packed. Will definitely purchase from again.
  2. Congrats on the new house. That is awesome with the magazine boxes. It really looks neat.
  3. Can everyone please remove the complete address from their post. At one point this was a violation of this message board. If I was the buyer right now I would be quite upset.
  4. That is terrible. Good to report her but still bad that you forked over an extra $30k because of her greediness. On the topic, I read some of Ocean issue, I never thought I would agree with Joe or Mike. I just had a similar thing happen to me where I was the potential buyer. I PM'd the seller about a book that was just removed from his thread. He is a seasoned seller so he wasn't ambiguous with his terms. One thing about this probation debates is everyone attempts to "figure" out what is the meaning behind the message. That isn't right, Ocean said no deal, and the buyer still went ahead to force his hand. I don't know what Ocean antics were as I haven't read through the entire thread. But to over analyze this one sentence is a bit much, IMO. I am running away now. to those who I have missed.
  5. I'm sure people do, but for whatever reason I just never got into them. I have always had few hundred. Pretty sure they came from times when I purchased a large lot and they were thrown in, but I'm not sure what issues or titles they are and I don't count them in my total collection. There is one copy that I have that I do count toward my total and that was this year's Free Comic Book Day offering from Archie. It was a digest and since I do have a complete run of the FCD Archie's from 2003 on I felt I needed to have this one in the mix. Are you looking to sell or buy? I don't know if you saw my post over in flea market finds. But I just got 1300 ish digests from a guy who brought them off the stands for 40 ish years. I am undecided...on one hand, I want to keep the good ones such as jug with archie 1-10, Katy Keene 1-10, a few other #1's then sell the rest. Oh also I found an archie superhero digest. Also #2 by Neal Adams but I forget which title. Also plenty of early laugh digests including Neal Adams. At the same time, I could fund my comic collection or $$ for art supplies. Not sure. Yes I totally missed the other post. First, great buy! Less than 80, ha, I'd do that any day! With regard to selling them it's a tough call. I mean sadly -- and this is just my perspective -- the digest auctions are a) always bulk, and b) don't go for much money. Nevertheless, the 1st issues - the ones you want to hold onto - do bring a decent amount by themselves when they are in good shape. $80 ... you really cannot lose on those one! I had to snag it regardless. I invited my mother over to see the collection with my younger brother and she had plenty of nostalgia brewing . She actually read one full digest before she left. I also got a few freebies in that buy. Like 30 mad mags. Nothing special except for the famous finger cover. Also there's a box of richie/Casper/Wendy digests. Still have 3 boxes left to sort. Should I buy digest bcw bags for the keepers?? Or just put in a box they fit snugly? I appreciate it. I do not mean to hijack this thread since its the only active archie thread here I know of. I will delete my posts if OP requests it. DO NOT BUY BCW BAGS. They do not fit manga books and I don't believe they were good for the Archie Digest as well. Especially when you get into the older ones that are thicker. I got my bags from Hot Flips. If they don't have them on their website, call them. BCW manga/digest bags were too short. The Hot Flip bags doesn't have the flap so they can accommodate many different size books and thicknesses. I may be interested in some Laugh digest. I will PM you later today.
  6. Of course they do, but I think price is a consideration. You got a nice haul of them!
  7. I don't venture into the Gold forum too often. Lucky for me, it is on a day that you posted in your journal. What a great thread. I shows your love for the material and I appreciated the historical clips posted as well. Thanks for taking the time to put it together.
  8. Doesn't matter on the previously used boxes. I had a package arrive last year that clearly contained used Priority boxes, as the old mailing label was on one of the boards. The postal inspector still marked it for Priority rate, as the disclaimer on the board makes it clear this cannot be used for anything but Priority shipping. These are used in priority boxes. I don't think I've ever used anything, even a free priority label in a media package...just in priority, but I just wouldn't cut up a new box. Oh, I understand. I tried to contest the charges, and was informed Priority boxes are not to be used for anything other than Priority mail, whether used or not. The post master pointed to the disclaimer on one of the boxes, and that's all she wrote. I have a REAL problem with the PO stating that we can't use "used" boxes as packing material. Do the really want more landfills of unused cardboard material when it can be used till it falls apart? I've made it clear in my sales threads that I like media mail use (right or wrong) and that if the buyer wants to pay for the more expensive priority rate, then they can and it will be shipped that way. Also if it (media mail) arrives and you have to pay the priority rate, then that was what you were going to have to pay anyway, so why complain to the seller when you could have requested that option in the first place... especially if you feel that option is wrong. On the flip side of that coin, I as a seller have to back up my packaging (which I always have by the way ) to protect the contents in case the box is opened. If a over zealous postal employee tears into it and messes up a book, then I have to replace it. Hate that it happened, but no biggie. I think the restrictions of media mail on comics due to "advertising" is ridiculous... especially in relation to items over a year old. If ALL advertising is considered valid from items over 2, 5, 10, 50 years old... then I want to buy some of those items at that advertised price. 99% of us want that cheaper option on shipping since we know the majority of books we buy are basically worthless. If you want to pay for priority and the "safety" it provides... then ask for priority mail before you buy from the seller. Unfortunately, when you use the PO's service you have to abide by their rules. How you feel about doesn't really matter. So next time you buy from anyone Speedy... make sure to request only Priority Mail Service instead of any other. I personally don't want to pay $15 boxed shipping for five midgrade Marvel Two in One issues Actually if you use Regional Priority mail the rate is closer to $8.00. (from NY to KNOXVILLE $7.48). No one likes to pay a higher rate but that is the sign of the times. That's doable... but when double boxing, the Flat Rate Priority box is the safest ship. Esp for slabs... but $8 is a lot cheaper I would prefer to use my own boxes but you cannot with priority to get a reasonable rate. Anyway, I am sure if you use the bigger box you could double box it. Honestly, I wish the post office would offer a middle tier rate. The parcel post rate is just a few cents lower than priority rate. It is rather silly to offer it at all. Here's the box sizes they offer: https://store.usps.com/store/browse/subcategory.jsp?categoryId=subcatMSS_RegionalRate&categoryNavIds=catGetMailingShippingSupplies%3AsubcatMSS_RegionalRate You can price out where you send the most items to using the shipping calculator to see if it saves you money.

  10. With all due respect, cost should be the reasoning behind explicitly violating a rule. It was the main reason everyone jumped on the personal paypal bandwagon to save PP fees. It violated PP agreement rules. Yes, shipping is getting expensive. It has changed my buying habits. I don't shipping comics via Media Mail any more and that was prior to seeing this notice. I just made a decision that it wasn't worth it. As a side note: I have ordered twice now books for my nieces from CA. Both times they were shipped via media mail and I received them within 4 days I was quite surprised how quickly they arrived and my packages to CA normally take 7-10 days.
  11. even if it's against the PO's rules? I am not sure how this differs from paypal rule to this one? For years, it was up to the individual post masters to decide if comics were allowable under media mail. I think they are officially trying to close that loop hole now. Since it is in B&W that comics are not allowable under media mail, who is held responsible if that package isn't forwarded or is with postage due? Is it the fault of the seller or buyer? With the influx of transient sellers we are getting on these boards, I would hate to see someone get burned over shipping. It's not a stretch to ask this rule be added. I've received packages sent via Media Mail and the post office caught them. Just this year, someone sold me 8 raw books, charged me $5 for shipping, and the total cost was $11.50 combined. The package arrived with $11 due for additional postage because (1) the seller used Priority shipping box tops to protect the books, (2) the inspection note was included clarifying comics are not allow, so (3) the USPS charged Priority Mail instead of Parcel Post because of Item (1). Better to nip this in the bud now. Otherwise, you deal with any escalations later when a seller feels they shouldn't have to cover the additional expense. I had an ebay seller send me a couple of comics in a manila envelope protected in a priority mailer bubbled wrapped envelope and cut out cardboard from priority boxes. The package was ripped open during transit and luckily I didn't get charged for priority rate. I mentioned to the seller about this. Hopefully they will learn. Cardboard is free just go to any store and ask for boxes.

  13. Look at the bottom. It has a numbered Notice. I would be surprised if that wasn't distributed the Post Offices or if the clerks are responsible to stay abreast of such notice releases. PSN 7610-07-000-4037 Notice 121, October 2012
  14. But then we run into the problem of how the rule gets put forth. Is it only for comic books that media mail can't be offered? Or would media mail no longer be allowed for any board transactions? Graphic novels and trade paperbacks can be sent media mail. If you are going to propose this, then you need to offer up exactly how you think it should be laid out. I don't think the mods are going to bother with this like they did with the Paypal personal payments. If media mail were to no longer be allowed to be offered as an option, then we could kiss trade paperback and bulk lot sales goodbye. Nobody is going to pay over $30 priority or parcel shipping when the bulk lot may have only cost $20. That is a good point. I don't think ruling out media mail for TPBs and even dvds makes sense. However, media mail for comics are a thing of the past. I hate for a transaction to go sour because the post office decided not to forward the package or the buyer gets hit with an outlandish priority mail charge. We have seen the latter here before when a board shipped short or long boxes. I don't recall the size but the buyer was charged by the post office. I am only posting here for discussion purposes. I am curious to see what the community thinks. I used media mail for comics all the time but had stopped something in the fall of last year. I don't sell comics online often anymore because of the expensive shipping. Luckily with regional priority mailers, it helps to keep the cost down.
  15. That way of thinking no longer applies as the post office has published an official notice that states comics are not allowed. Before, it was up to each Post Master to decide if comics were allowable under media mail. I even called my up to get confirmation. I would think notice would serve as the guideline for all post offices. There is a member that works for the post office. I wish he would chime in on this subject.
  16. I would like to discuss media mail and comics. Someone recently (over the past month or so) posted a link to USPS web site on Media Mail Service. It clearly stated that comics do not qualify for media mail. http://about.usps.com/notices/not121/not121_tech.htm The notice was published in October 2012 (according to the webpage). I am proposing that we make it rule in the sales forum not to ship comics via media mail. We already have a rule that personal paypal is not acceptable as it violates paypal's rules.
  17. I think it was your fault. All that alphabet stuff. What you see as my fault, I see as lack of moderation.
  18. Those are fantastic! It is so much fun to see them together like that.
  19. Thanks for the replies back. It is for 300 books and I have gone the poly bag route already. The bags look like junk after a year or two. I know that they are still good but I don't like looking at the covers through the wrinkled plastic. I figured it is fairly close in price for a much better product. I will get them and post back in the thread with pictures.
  20. The difference is the thickness of the mylar - regular Mylites are 1 mil thick & pretty flimsy, and I wouldn't really recommend them as the seams have a tendency to split. Mylites2s are twice as thick (2 mil), and have a nice heft to them yet remain flexible. Mylites Plus are an in-between size - they're 1.42 mil thick. If you can get Mylites2s, I'd suggest going with them  I am getting read to order the Mylites Plus for some cheap but loved modern books. Does anyone have any experience with these? I am worried about splitting. I already have Mylar2 and that is too much protection for these books. I want something that I can easily slide the book out of. Thank you for any suggestions. I wish I would have looked at this thread when purchasing post it tabs. I got two different ones and not happy with either.
  21. So I just sent a separate PM with notice that I payment is due by Sunday 3/24. I sorry but 16 days with three full weekends is plenty of time to come up with $18. I can understand that he is not on the boards often but I was approached after my sale. This isn't a case where he never read any invoice PM. He accepted my counter and I provided my paypal information within 2 hours of his acceptance. I am not waiting until April to list these books. That is unfair to ask of any seller. On a side note, this deal was done after my sales thread so if I did have any rules technically, that would not hold water as it would have been a separate deal. I didn't even think to mention that payment would be due by X number of days as again he approached me and he has been here since 2008. Also, he has read the PM with my paypal account info so he knows how to remit payment. I had sent a request to let me know if he is interested 5 days later hasn't been read yet. So we'll see if he reads the new PM.
  22. I wouldn't put up conditional payment terms in my sales thread. This really isn't an issue. I just am posting the question because I thought this was discussed with the PL rules where updated. I wanted to make sure of the new rules. If it is 30 days, then I will wait it out. Thanks for the replies.
  23. Sharon, I am not looking to put anyone on the list. All I am asking is how long do I have to wait for payment. I will never force anyone to pay for a book however, I don't want to be inconvenienced either. This is a case that the buyer approached me so he is well aware that payment is due. I can appreciate that not everyone is on the boards 24-7 but he should be respectful of the time period. I will wait a two-week period and then send a separate PM requesting payment within three days. If he doesn't reply by then, I am just going to list them on ebay. I was just wondering if there was a timeline for payment that is why I posted.
