  1. I am not as knowledgeable in this area as others on the boards. I have seen two comic shops in my area go down in the past several years for different reasons. But two new shops popped up in their place. Neither are the same and cannot replace the closed shop in terms of back issues and social environment. One new shop, Spiders Den on Yonkers Ave in Westchester County, NY, does have a POS system. He discusses it in a podcast. He is an extremely nice person and I am sure if you are upfront with him, he would show you the entire system. I am not sure if it is the Diamond system but again, you can listen to the podcast. Then I would recommend listening to the entire first season of this podcast as there is some valuable information and he does interview store owners. Ep 7 is where Spider Den is interviewed and I believe he discusses the POS in it but I cannot be certain. He is in a few eps. You are looking for the season one which doesn't have a denotation. http://www.flatsquirrelproductions.com/podcast This is the direct link to iTunes podcast - https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/my-comic-shop-history/id984071950
  2. I am waiting until Feb 7th, when the dvd is released. But I am on pins and needles with anticipation. I love Etrigan!
  3. Excellent review! I was wondering how die hard Archie fans would feel about the changes. I loved the first episode and I am not a big TV watcher these days. I was excited for the show when it was first announced. I agree the writers gave the show/characters everything to bring Archie to the modern era. Casting was fantastic for parties all around. I liked that Jughead was in the background yet in the center of all things. They even made Archie look cool without trying too hard. I think my only disappointment was the nontraditional Josie band. I now want to pick up Mark Waid's Archie trades.
  4. The LCS by me closed almost two years ago. The owner cited non-payers being one of the reasons for his decision to close his doors. Rent was probably the biggest factor. I frequented that store for several years and it was a great place to hang out and talk comics. I was sad when they closed but I was surprised they stayed open for as long as they did too. Not for lack of business either. Anyway, I posted the ex-employees podcast where he interviews several customers and the owner over the course of the year. It was an interesting listen as many had thoughts on how to avoid the non-payer pitfalls.
  5. I picked up my copy this week at the LCS. I read it this morning. I ♥ it! It truly drew me in within the first few pages. I didn't put it down until it was done. Well, I did a break in the middle. I haven't been this engrossed in a book in sometime. Thank you!
  6. I am quoting this because it took some time to find. I could say sometime here but I will just leave the quote that is much more damaging than anything I can offer.
  7. Is your contact saying that if ComicLink hadn't scratched them they would grade higher? Or is he saying that CGC is the one doing the scratching? Sounds like either way the books are ruined. This is why I hate for anyone other than Bedrock City to get their meat-hooks on these new collections Someone's gonna make a lot of scratch. I bet a lot of collectors are itching to own these.
  8. Here's some random ones I have in Photobucket that are my top favs. I love that Wild Women cover. The book itself has an odd mix of content. I have several favorite Romance covers I adore. But those are celebrated more often that this gem. Barbie 44 - There are several Barbie and Barbie Fashion that win my heart but this one is just my favorite comic cover. I had the whole run of these and had to keep this cover. I keep the Cerebus strip ones too. This is in such terrible condition but it remains seated on my computer desk to enjoy daily.
  9. I hope we are just posting our own donations. If not I will delete and go through proper channels. Katy Keene lot 2nd Series - $20.00 for Robb and I will pay for US shipping. SOLD ================================================================= Scary Godmother signed with Cert. - $15.00 for Robb and I will pay for US shipping - SOLD
  10. NYC has the best pizza and bagels because of our water. Anyway, your post reminds me of Carrie knocking Burger boy's scrunchie usage in his book (Sex and the City). You have to be a New Yorker to understand. I am going to order your book from a LCS this weekend. Looking forward to reading it.
  11. Thanks for the new youtube channel. I am getting more interested in these type of channels. I am wondering if they get sponsored or how they are actually making a living. It seems to be the new career opt for the younger generation. I started to look at product reviews on youtube and have come to realize that most online reviews through company kickbacks or sponsorship programs. Even Amazon has their professional reviewers that get the product for free. Anyway, that was an interesting in depth look at the inside of Mile High. It was nice of Chuck to take some time out of his day and show those guys around. Appreciate the heads up on that channel, I had not run across them before. Also really appreciate Chuck's explanation. Interesting take and I found myself actually nodding to myself "yeah that makes sense". I'd like to go and visit.
  12. Wow. Talk about a new drop ship method.
  13. What are you packing your one comic in? I rarely sell single comics because of the media mail limitation nowadays. Plus, I am series reader so I tend to sell in bulk. However, this past sales thread had ones and three comic buyers. It was a person_without_enough_empathy to get one comic properly packaged in a box under a lb. Three comics was impossible. I don't like send out things in envelopes. I used to use the padded priority ones but have stopped those too.
  14. It looks like the consolidated the podcast to one location if anyone is interested in listening to them. http://flatsquirrelproductions.podomatic.com/?p=3
  15. I keep hearing that the weight limit is higher on 1st class, yet I went to USPS and cannot use it on a 14 oz package. I thought it was 15 oz. The service everyone hears about is called 'First-Class Package Service' and is not a service available to retail customers coming into a post office - you can only get this service with a commercial account through ebay, stamps.com, etc.. ** It is not the same thing as first class parcel service you are familiar with. First-Class Package Service can be opened and inspected by the post office like media mail is. There are also certain restrictions on what can be mailed at that rate. I get the option plus discounted postage rates through Paypal shipping. If you've got a Paypal account, you should try it out. I looked up postage amounts on USPS.com yesterday as I had to ship out single and three books. I thought 15 oz was ok but the 1st class option doesn't come up. I did ship one first class via Paypal this morning but it was only 10 oz. The others I just did priority mail.
  16. Honestly, shipping comics now stinks. I rarely sell single comics because the isn't a great cheap option out there. I use Regional Priority Mail boxes and they normally have a better rate than the flat rate mailers. But word of advice, Media Mail, while cheap will never get investigated by the Post Office. I have lost now two packages sent this method and they will do nothing for it even when it has tracking. So beware of that before sending out uninsured packages this way.
  17. I keep hearing that the weight limit is higher on 1st class, yet I went to USPS and cannot use it on a 14 oz package. I thought it was 15 oz.
  18. I am glad you guys are listening to it. I hope you enjoy it as you can tell a lot of work was put into making it. Thanks for the other podcast. I will check that out.
  19. My first LCS closed last year. I was quick shocked to drive past it and the sign was no longer there. One of the very talented employees there made a documentary of the story before its closing was even a thought. When the store's closing was announced, he started doing podcast. He interviewed several former employees, owners and customers. It is chronicling the stores history in a sense. While I was part of this community on a very small scale for a short period, it is a very interesting listen to. Perhaps, in part because the host is articulate, is an active participate and brings up interesting points while interviewing his guest. It is researched and planned. There are enough people here from NY that may have even visited the shop. However, I feel like the podcast goes beyond that and is truly a snapshot of any given LCS in America. Season 1 is really about the store, Alternate Realities closing. The episodes progress through the store's history, the different owners, the business and of course, its customers and employees. There is a lot of discussion peppered throughout about how the store could be saved or even ran differently. Season 2 which I am half way through is equally as interesting and focuses more on collecting. It doesn't try to be a collecting guide. So far, it is more about exploring the collector's nature and different markets. There hasn't been much conversation about actual comics up to this point but my next episode to listen to is New Frontier deconstruct. I just finished watching the movie to get prepared. Beware, that these podcasts do not really discuss too many comics which is perhaps why I feel like they are so universal. They highlight the business side, collector's path and nature, but most importantly the friendships made along the way. So if everyone even read this very long winded post, here are the links: http://www.flatsquirrelproductions.com/podcast - Season 1 appears to only be on iTunes. I have an intel based Windows system and downloaded Itunes to hear the podcast. It works fine on my Microsoft computer. Season 2 is in two places. So I am listen to this at work, yes! I have yet to watch the documentary but will be doing so in the next few weeks. Hopefully, you guys enjoy them as much as I have. If anyone has any other Podcast like these, please post them as I am almost done with these and will need to fill the void.
  20. That is fantastic new! You must be quite relieved. I would now go and play the lotto.
  21. Do rules still apply on this forum? Just wondering if is it acceptable for a seller to just post pictures and put prices down whenever they feel like it?
  22. My advice, get yourself a Blu-Ray player. Not just to watch BvS Ultimate Edition, but for every cool movie you love watching on DVD that's worth upgrading to Blu-Ray. The difference (with a Full HD TV) is amazing! Well worth the expense. Blu-Ray players upscale DVDs these days, so that's also a bonus where a DVD library is concerned. My TV doesn't support it and I am not one of those that need the full at home surround sound people. I watch very little scheduled TV. I do watch most of my content on DVD. If they do away with DVD then so be it. Until my TV dies, I am not upgrading to something that will need replacing every few years. For me, there is no difference between HD, UltraViolet, Blu-ray or DVD.
  23. BEST BUY - Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice [DVD] - $17.99 FANDANGO - Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition - $19.99 UltraViolet service. EBAY - Batman V. Superman Digital copy & Man of Steel Blu-Ray (2-Movie Collection) - $15 + shipping So I would say there are a few cost-effective methods. Not just the $24 Blu-Ray/DVD combo. Thanks. But still, I paid to watch in the movie theater. I was excited to watch the original director's cut but that will not happen. I am not giving WB money so I can watch it on a small computer screen. That isn't voicing my consumer rights to have the director's cut released on DVD.
