What does everyone think of the relatively high number of very high value comics being flipped in the recent past with big losses? Need for cash, not reading the market correctly or something more ominous?
In part we're seeing a correction of an over-inflated market during covid, though golden age is less affected than silver or later. And a lot of those losses are the hyped Promise collection, which generated sales at prices that seemed high at the time and now we know they were. I'd say gold is doing fine.

There are also a few British, Australian and Mexican ECs if you truly want to be a completist…
While on the subject of Australian ECs, a Heritage auction I didn't win a few years had a photo of a few, and a list of other books in the lot, which included Piracy #4. I have #1 and #3 but haven't ever seen a #4, and none of the comic database sites list it. Has anyone ever seen one? I emailed Heritage to see if I could get a photo but didn't hear back.

I never got to meet the man; only corresponded through PM. Seemed like a really nice person, and after reading all of the fond memories in this thread, one I wished I could have shook hands with. I now understand why he was so interested in my Uncle Scrooge #6 (bought as a 7.0 raw/graded out as a 6.5).
R.I.P. Rich.
Rich and I were both looking for nice copies of Scrooge #6 at one stage and talked a bit about it. I ended up with a 6.5 as well, and there aren't too many higher copies on the census, last time I looked.

never mind - I replied to something that had already been answered

I think most if not all of those books were printed in Australia for the NZ market, often with different cover prices and sometimes different page counts. It's a bit of a minefield for collectors - and then there are the UK versions...

One more, this time with the photo cover.

I just bought a small collection of Australian Disneys, which included a few 'Australian Four Colors'. Here's some from the Film Preview series, with the original photo covers replaced - presumably by locally sourced art or adaprted from interior panels.

I'm pretty sure I'd be happy to own any printing. For me a less than 30 day difference when it's 31,000 days since the book came out is pretty insignificant. It's not like the later printing was from a new set of plates three years later.

I think there are quite a few. I'd add:
Don Rosa
Don and Maggie Thompson

10/10 for the clarity of that image though! It makes it really easy to see that it's nowhere near the stated grade.

The trailer I saw makes me think that it will not be a particularly close telling of the story in the books. For anyone who hasn't read them, they are an epic sci-fi read. Lots of big ideas, especially in the dark forest volume. That said, I don't mind if the TV series diverges, as long as it's good story telling.

While I was searching for a way to enable the hide post option, I found a way to change the image limit, I just changed the settings from 500 images to unlimited. @AJD @Get Marwood & I
Thanks for remembering this Mike! I'll consolidate some of my various albums now.
Oh, and if you could find a way to move images and descriptions between albums that would be really useful - breaking up the original albums into sub 500 sets was time consuming. (Yes, I have way too many comics... )
