  1. This is interesting but since we don't store our comics like this, what's the point ? Boards are usually applied in a vertical fashion anyway. Don't forget the mylar adds support also.
  2. There's no doubt the fullbacks feel a lot firmer but I would think, when stacked tightly in a box, the half backs do the job. Also, you can fit more books in a box with halfbacks. For the books that may need extra support I will use full backs. Regarding the 1.5 fullback approach, I don't think you want things too tight as it may harm the spine or staples. I love the OCD that comes with comic collecting !!!
  3. It's too difficult to ascertain the real flaws from the fake flaws without the benefit of in hand.
  4. I totally agree with you, however, this guy is a newbie. Maybe he didn't realize the level of scrutiny he would receive. It is strange though. He never came back either.
  5. Wow, another great book. There may also be some liability issues with displaying notes on the label. Presently, notes can be vague and not very thorough. If displayed on the label, people would want 100% accuracy. Because we have to pay for them, most notes probably go unread. If on the label, everybody reads it and CGC may be held to a higher standard, more accountable. I can't think of a single business reason why they would agree to put it on the label.
  6. Ouch, Economy for grading alone is currently posted @ 38 business days . At this time of the year, all the Holidays, you are probably looking at least 3 months + . Not sure how much time CCS will add but I suspect a couple more months. Sorry but you have a Looooooong wait ahead of you.
  7. Love that Planet. Never saw it before. Since all our examples are Old Labels I'm beginning to wonder if they still note interior defects with new submissions. I used to see notation about staple rust on the old labels but they stopped that years ago. Totally agree with you about displaying the notes on the back of the label but I don't think it will happen. I also think, with certain defects, it would be the kiss of death for certain books = lots of complaints . Having the notes on the BC would, if anything, force Clink to show us a BC pic, LOL.
  8. I couldn't figure out that sale either, insane indeed. I got this Fantucchio tonight for a reasonable price. They really are nice books, most all with White pages. Lots of DC in the collection.
  9. It really doesn't matter if an old label book has been pressed or not. The perception that it was not pressed is still there. Also the perception exists that old label books were graded tighter and CGC was tougher on Page Quality. Doesn't matter if it's true or not. I believe the market rewards old label books simply because they are old label. By resubbing this book, perceived 'potential' value has been lost. Sure, some like the new cases and only want books in the new cases but those are not the 'savvy' collectors. I agree, still a great book though.
  10. When a book gets a reholder, it keeps the same cert number. You can tell if a new label book has been reholdered by looking at the cert number. Doesn't work on a CPR situation.
  11. Really nice cover colors on this one. Note the green is a very dark shade, very cool. I think this may grade out a little higher than the aforementioned 5.0 . This book looks like it can benefit from a clean and press. If that Back Cover is cleaned up, I'm thinking 6.0 here.
  12. The last auction was really long, maybe 10 days. They also had that server snafu. I paid with a check and just got my books this week. I think I paid before the auction ended. Also, I live in Chicago, so my check arrives really fast, usually processed next day. Anyway, I know exactly what you mean. You like to have your books from the last auction before bidding/buying in the new auction.
  13. Depends on the tier you submitted under = it could take a 'really' long time. Which tier did you use ?
  14. I will totally agree with you on this ! It sounds like they could have been more polite on the phone. That is a complaint !
  15. Hey, looks like 9.2 is a sweet spot. Here's another one. I originally submitted this book about 10 years ago and traded it away somewhere down the line. I got it back last night ! It's nice to see old friends.
  16. In summary, I do think this book is worth submitting, most keys are. I'll repeat my statement that pressing may help the presentation a little but it will not help the grade. There are simply too many other defects that will hold the grade down to a certain level no matter how 'flat' the book is. I think this book, as it stands, will look pretty good in a nice, new, clear CGC slab ! Good luck.
  17. No problem. I probably did take your comments personally because I was always told NO. You, were told okay, and complained the one time you didn't get it. If you truly posted this as an FYI, I apologize for my reaction. However, if you posted to complain, I stand by my statements.
  18. Besides the logistics, it was explained to me that it's an insurance issue. The way I understand it, at the end of every day, the total value of the books in the vault are recorded and eventually reported to the insurance company. Since their vault content is a moving target they are not insured for a max value but a true daily value. Storing 'courtesy' books for anyone that asks would affect their insurance bill.
  19. Actually, I don't think the initials will be an issue for the graders. It is small and neat. However, the ink blots on the back will be a problem.
  20. I see what you are referring to but I think it's okay. This is typical of the aging process of a Marvel book where the cover gets an 'oily' look, starting in the center and spreading out. The white area we are seeing is still free of this spreading.
  21. It does appear there are spots of rust on that bottom staple. The rust migration stain, which is above the staple may have been a stacking issue = the comic below it had rust. Were these books bagged and boarded ? That migration stain obviously goes through the cover onto the pages. I think I may now be in a 5.0 range, with 5.5 the max.
  22. They may have accommodated you because of the cross border aspect. I just don't think there is entitlement here. You were given a courtesy and they told you that when you called to inquire. Knowing this, I just don't think you should have come here to complain about their customer service. You may have ruined any consideration for a future courtesy. What do you honestly want CGC to do, reimburse your shipping or something. What did you expect us to say ? What are you trying to accomplish by going public with this 'complaint' ?
  23. What about rust ? There is clearly something on the bottom staple.
