  1. If you had the book in hand, I'm sure the press flattened out the surface. It's just that there was nothing with this book that a press could improve. The top two corners are the biggest culprits along with the top edge wear. It's a great looking book for an 8.0 with White Pages, always a good thing. I'm sure it's a tweener between 8.0/8.5 .
  2. Since you said this would be a display copy, I would vote for Supergirl. Gorgeous pic of an attractive female vs an unsettling pic of an ugly guy. Seems obvious to me.
  3. Good question. My understanding is that the designation OW/W means the pages did not fade evenly. They are literally off White in some areas, usually the perimeter, to White in other areas, usually the center. A designation of OW means the pages are evenly Off White. Of course there will be tweener situations and I have no idea which way CGC leans. While I like the concept of an OWL card, it doesn't work across all genres/ages of books.
  4. Love the reply and the car !!! I hope the engine wasn't warm, else your books may look like this................
  5. IMO, it's only a tweak above a 7.0 . You are correct about the staple location, which resulted in a lot of stress and wear at the staples. Lots of spine creases, both front and back cover. Anybody buying this as a possible upgrade candidate will be disappointed.
  6. You are correct, they do not follow the Overstreet Grading guide.
  7. The way the book looks now, as opposed to the way it looked when the grader's saw it, needs to be considered. Creases removed by a press, sometimes have a tendency to return. The graders see it hot off the press. You see it after it has had time to morph into an original state. Trust me, it happens. That's why grader's notes are important. You should be able to see the notes for free on your CBCS book. Unfortunately, the notes rarely give a specific number, just saying 'spine creases'.
  8. Yes, you are learning, but obviously at a cost. You are spending too much on fees between choosing the wrong submission tiers and submitting for pressing where it will not benefit. I guarantee by the time you are finished with this collection you will know what you SHOULD have done. BTW, what exactly is 'rack rash' ? Never heard that term before.
  9. While I agree the book is worth slabbing and will present nicely, I hate to inform you that pressing will not remove the subscription 'bend'. It is obviously a color breaking crease. A crease that long will usually hold a book in the 5.5 range. I think they will put the Kirby note on the label and it will not affect the grade. Good luck.
  10. You are missing the big picture, CGC doesn't want to be like other companies. Their Signature Service 100% guarantees authenticity by a witness. Having only Signature authentication is not 100%, just an educated opinion. COA's can be forged.
  11. You can submit just to CCS and skip CGC for the grading. It's just a waste of time and money to grade a book without witnessed signatures. If you want it encapsulated only, I believe you can request a NoGrade, NG on the label. Personally, I think books look better in mylar, no Newton rings either.
  12. I thought, as part of the design of the new label/holder, they moved the Page Quality to facilitate MORE room for narrative. We should be getting more info, not less.
  13. AM I seeing a slight spine realignment from the original raw book ?
  14. Well you already made a big mistake by mentioning your profit on a public internet site. Be stealth about financials.
  15. If you don't care and you are keeping it, then why are you submitting it ?? BTW, cool book, just not a good candidate for submission.
  16. Exactly, the OP is lucky he still got a 9.6 AND he got a grader's note as to why !. Lots of newbies coming on lately complaining about their grades. I think a 9.6 for a late bronze book is an excellent grade. With today's submitters , it's 9.8 or bust.
  17. Is that really the reason they are now putting less on the label ? If so, I agree with you.
  18. Yes, now I understand. Wow ! Kudos for taking this so well. Most would have come on here complaining. Of course you would have been vilified by the crowd that thinks CGC should be the only game in town. I am sincerely sad to hear this happened to you.
  19. I think this proves the term 'slight' can mean a whole lot more than one would think. I'm glad to hear, in hindsight, you would have preferred to keep it as is. It looked really nice. Also, from a valuation standpoint, I would think you lost ?
  20. Wow, I'm sorry to be negative but that is destruction. If it required that much scraping it should have been left alone. I'm disappointed CCS even did the work. Years ago, Matt would have turned down work like this. Maybe it's not his call anymore. This is not returning the book to an original state.
  21. I agree with your earlier comment that the graders must have seen the outline of the removed tape. So, assuming they knew what happened, I wonder if the residue was still performing a task = it was still holding something together ? In that case, the graders probably felt obligated to deem it restoration. Trust me, I'm on your side with this and want to see you get the correct label but I think the best thing to do is to send it back and get the residue glue removed.
  22. I'm curious what it looked like as a 'solid upper mid grade' with the CT. If the large piece missing on the bottom right was there, it would have been more like upper low grade territory. I hope that bottom right was not part of the CT scrape ?
  23. Besides the flaws you mentioned, I don't like the tear and indentation in the middle of the back cover. IMO, 4.5, 5.0 tops. Cool book for a freebie !
  24. Absolutely normal. Unless you purchase the Fast Track option, the Economy tier takes, literally, twice as long as the Modern Tier. Presently, the stated turnaround times are 25 days Modern, 48 days Economy.
