  1. In due time when you become more knowledgeable about submitting, I do think you will regret sending in a Green Label. I know this specific book means something to you but putting a book in a slab, at least for me, doesn't add to the sentimentality . Pressing takes away all sentimentality for me as it's no longer really the same book. If you love something, you accept it with all original flaws.
  2. I also dislike Rusty Staples but unless the rust is bad or has migrated, they don't seem to mention it. This makes sense because, in theory, the notes should only reference things that affect the grade. It seems CGC is pretty lenient on minor rust. In general, I have found notes to be quite unsatisfactory.
  3. You probably just missed it. Scheduled for Grading can happen the day before or day of grading, so it may appear for only a brief moment, sometimes in minutes. Abut the only time I remember seeing it was over a weekend.
  4. But Cr/OW pages, yuck. Surprised it sold for that much.
  5. Since you listed this in the wrong thread anyway, I am going to comment. That Signature will actually hurt the value since, if submitted to CGC, would get a Green Qualified since it was not witnessed. I think you are wayyyyyy off on your valuation.
  6. There's probably tanning to the inside cover and pages. It will get hammered. I would not buy this book.
  7. I think the competition may have forced them to get tighter. So 2011/2012 soft, 2013 tighter.
  8. The Purple Label example clearly states pieces added. That is much different than just 'tape' . Apparently CGC felt a piece was married from another copy with tape. Since the piece was not original to the specific copy, it is therefore considered Restored.
  9. It really depends on the specific type and amount of restoration. Often, a book that has been messed with will have multiple things going on. A trimmed book is usually the worst. Amateur Color Touch needs to be scraped off to get a Blue Label. It's difficult to have a general Rule of Thumb on the Valuation but a 60 - 70% haircut is reasonable.
  10. Thought: you can just sell the book yourself. BTW, shipping to Canada indeed sucks !
  11. I have a book that had a similar dot , maybe even smaller, that bled through. It's a judgement call by CGC for intent. I got a Purple label. I then resubbed for Signature Service to at least get the Yellow/Purple label. It's ironic that it's okay to sign a book for SS but the one tiny dot is punished.
  12. CGC doesn't break out the data for Pedigrees, nor Page Quality, nor Newstand (for the most part). Why should Signatures be any different ?
  13. Yours is an impossible request. Post some of your books in the PGM(Please Grade My) thread and let's see what you have.
  14. I agree on both these points. I think pressing changed their stance on the light stress and bends. They are so used to seeing flat that the slightest bend is hammered. The slab itself often hides these light bends.
  15. And on this I totally agree. BTW, I think the reason CGC softened up in the 2011/2012 timeframe was because they lost so many senior graders in a short period. Being short staffed also prompted them to cut corners. You will find Grader's notes are often missing during this timeframe. Being rushed, I think many books slipped by. It wasn't a formal, let's start softening edict, just a happening from the circumstances.
  16. Unfortunately, that seems to be true. Last Sale GPA is King.
  17. I had this thought also while watching the auction. IMO, this is common for this time of year.
  18. Kudos on your 'high road' response. NO problem, you are NOT an 'a**hole'. I think I just reacted to the word 'reputable' in the post title, perhaps a strong word for the question asked. I still stand by my statement that your experience is just the realities of selling Moderns. It sounds like you do indeed have some good books and I think you can sell them yourself for much higher prices. Good Luck !
  19. You can debate all you want about whether the 9.8 grade assigned to this book is 'allowable' but current marketplace expectations desire a 9.8 to at least look 'perfect'. We see it all the time on the Boards, new buyers in the marketplace showing disappointment in the look of their new book. Whether it's Newton rings, centering in the slab, bindery flaws, or lint in the inner well, new buyers of CGC slabs don't like these flaws. I would not be happy with this book as a 9.8. Allowable or not, that fuzzy corner would bother me. If CGC is tight on Moderns, I think that is good for the hobby. Submitters need to adapt and quit crying about the good old days.
  20. A couple rebuttals to your valuation comments on ASM 23 . First off, the double GPA you are referencing is over two years old, not exactly accurate in this market. I also think this is an upgrade candidate, maybe with just a straight resub. Old label with White pages, unless there's something askew on the Back Cover this is a superior copy for a 9.4 . Looks news stand fresh to me. For this era of the Silver Age, the Curator pedigree ranks near the top.
  21. That is unusual. I would call and inquire. Verified means the Received package was opened up and the contents were verified to the invoice. I've personally never experienced a situation like this. Now I Understand why you asked your original question !
  22. But I think they actually do retain historical archives, not forever like HA, but for at least a year or more. The books move from the auction category to the Exchange. In this specific situation, there was a Reserve. Maybe it was not met. Or maybe the buyer specifically requested it be taken down because he is going to immediately relist it. Or maybe Clink themselves bought it.
  23. I may be wrong but my perception of CGC is that will accept and encapsulate just about anything these days. Doesn't matter if the book is counterfeit, has a facsimile cover, or is only one page. Got a pedigree but no proof, no problem. The perception in the marketplace is that a CGC encapsulation makes the book legitimate. I wish they would be more strict.
  24. I agree with you ! Just pointing out that CGC is guilty also. PGX should not be singled out for this.
  25. The difference between verified and received will often be the same day to a week+, especially in the case of onsite submissions. So, individual results may vary. In the big scheme, it really doesn't matter as the TAT is a moving target anyway and should only reflect the end result. The timeframe of an individual status is not relevant. I do agree that USPS Registered is a frustratingly slow process. Get a FedEX account and have CGC use Fedex on your return shipments. You will be happier.
