  1. Read further down the posts. CGC grades counterfeits all the time and they do not use HUGE letters either.
  2. And the author is not very happy about the fact that CGC grades and encapsulates counterfeits. In all fairness, having a counterfeit in a CGC slab does seem wrong.
  3. Will CGC even grade this book ? How would they encapsulate it with that miscut ?
  4. It starts the day you started thinking about sending in your books for grading. Seriously, if you are sweating over the day or two lag between received and verified you are in for a long, painful process.
  5. I get the feeling that the OP is implying that dealers that don't want to pay his asking price are not reputable. Crazy. Buying Moderns at 60% of GPA is not a successful business model. This is just a situation where the valuation of a Modern collection is facing reality.

    CGC 9.5?

Bob, you are a Goon. This is a 5 year old thread that you resurrected. Gemma's response from 5 years ago was an official CGC statement. Since then, the likelihood that they have changed their stance would be even more remote. The design of the slab and label has been completely redesigned. IMO, it's a cool grade and labeI that should be left in it's original state. Trying to add Signature Service into the mix would have been a cluster you-know-what. BTW, welcome to the Boards.
  7. Wow, I'm not a fan of signatures but this is one good looking book ! The placement and color of the signatures against the black background looks great. I would be very careful about getting this pressed, the concern being a possible smearing of the ink on the sigs. They look so perfect now, even the slightest smear, though it probably would not hurt the grade, would harm the eye appeal.
  8. This is bizarre. Even the location of the chip out does not match up. I am puzzled. I hate to say it but I would contact CGC for an explanation. It's a great looking book but these notes are disconcerting.
  9. Okay, it's obvious you are a press first, ask questions later Believer. IMO, that one flaw is what is holding the book at 7.0 . Fixing any other pressable defects probably won't matter. Still, if the notes mention pressable defects, it may be worth a try. Do we have the notes ?
  10. Honestly, it's a great looking book but I agree that the tiny piece is annoying. If it were my book I would get it reholdered. I don't like the way this book is encapsulated. It looks like the bottom wedge is pushing the top cover too hard against the top edge.
  11. Not arguing that it's a great looking book but I don't think a press would help. Apparently you missed the piece missing from the top edge, maybe an inch long, showing the inside paper ? Of course will all know a press can fix anything. Maybe it can stretch the paper enough to cover up the missing piece.
  12. I'm very disappointed with the reaction of Heritage. This is a classic case of an 'Item Not as Described'. Not sure who you talked to but maybe you can climb the corporate ladder, discuss the matter higher up the chain. In any case, you should definitely send it back and argue about the suspension later. They may have already paid off the seller and realize they are going to have to take a loss. IMO, it's the seller that should be suspended, not you. BTW, it may behoove you to mention you brought it up for discussion on the Boards and the consensus was a damaged book, no longer 8.0 .
  13. If you feel the need to come here and complain you should at least give all the facts. Did you submit them under your account or go through someone else ? If it was someone else, you need to complain to them. If you submitted, what tier did you use ? Right now the estimated timeframe for Value tier submitted books is 66 business days.
  14. I'm going to offer up a possible theory of what happened here. The book got damaged during a reholder. Instead of taking up the situation with CGC, the owner puts the book up for sale. I stand by my statement that I think you should return it .
  15. ???? Just giving the man an honest answer.
  16. Yes, I would venture to say the original grade is 8.0. IMO, book is now a 7.5, inside an 8.0 slab. I would return it.
  17. I would not get it reholdered. 2012 was a very loose period for CGC grading. I really don't think this would be a 9.8 today. In theory, if the slab is fine, they will not review the book itself, just reholder. However, I have heard it can happen. I would not invest any more money into this book or risk the grade changing. Sorry.
  18. In theory, unless the game is rigged, the grade should drop but it really depends on the original grade and original flaws. A small isolated scrape on a book with a large stain will not matter. Did you ever talk or submit to CGC onsite at a convention ? I'm curious if they assist/advise you on PLOD books.
  19. When looking at a book like this on E-Bay, I always ask myself why the seller has a key book in VF and it is not slabbed. It could be the seller himself removed it from a 6.0 purple slab and sold it raw. It happens more than you realize. Sorry this happened to you but take some comfort in the fact that it has happened to most of us.
  20. The alignment on the spine looks near perfect. I do not think the fanning of the pages on the right side will affect the grade. Cool book. Good luck.
  21. Regarding #1, I don't see how we can answer your question, you should contact CGC directly. Regarding #2, I wonder if they only note Newstand on certain keys, as it seems that is all I ever see them on ?
