  1. Yeah, but they're in the bank safe deposit box. When have you heard of anyone's comics getting stolen from a bank deposit box? Unless by some act of god and the building is destroyed/burns down you are probably ok. Interesting. You have the plot of a Fast and Furious film there. Vin Diesel's presence would be mandatory. Hopefully they wouldn't repeat this approach, otherwise the slabbed pamphlets might experience a little shock damage....
  2. I don't really mind the digital recolouring in the Batman Illustrated by Neal Adams hardcovers, but volume 1 provides an easy comparison between the original and new presentations. I think I read that Adams got carried away a bit with his remastering and ran over budget before finishing the volume, so that it stops suddenly part way through the Brave and Bold run; around the Sgt Rock issue, IIRC?
  3. Isn't there a problem with staples rusting when comics are placed in these boxes for long periods?
  4. The Ultimate Edition is my favourite 2016 super-hero movie. Great stuff.
  5. All the stories collected *and* the original coloring pallet? No such animal. I wounded up getting the HCs vol #1-3. The Omnibus has the horrible Odyssey books included. The modern coloring is indeed terrible. They messed up the collected Smith Conans in the same way. I thought the BWS Conans were even worse. The new colouring obliterated most of the linework.
  6. What issue was this from? For laughs I shared this with my youngest daughter who participated in a March for women's rights this past weekend. One of the panels is from FF 65.
  7. +1 The Englehart / Rogers Joker issues are great Batman comics. Great choice as well, and very significant.
  8. It covers all of the really key issues, except Batman 244. Also, Detective 443 is a possibility. One of my favourites, and a classic.
  9. What's Myxyzptlk (or however it's spelled) doing? No need to taunt the big-boned. It's cruel.
  10. Absolutely brilliant artist, but a lot of his science-fiction work is probably too surreal / trippy for mainstream tastes.
  11. Colan drew a mean Dracula. And was great at creating a dark, Gothic mood.
  12. Karl Kessel did the inking on that title if I remember correctly; I also remember reading how he corrected alot of Liefeld's pencils I did get those Hawk and Dove books at the time, thinking I saw some potential in Liefeld, but I was more than likely, in retrospect, mainly responding to the corrections made by someone more experienced than him. I did buy his New Mutants run on the strength of that but quickly went off his style, managing to dodge both X-Force and Youngblood.
  13. One theory could be that I'm in my 50s and completely out of touch with what the much younger comics readers like, or, at the opposite end of the spectrum, it might be that I have some taste. Ramos was okay in the 90s, but not everyone continues following a creator when there's a drastic change in their style.
  14. There are much worse SA artists, such as Paul Reinman and Tony Tallarico.
  15. I enjoyed both Man of Steel and the Batman vs Superman : Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition, even though it seems that many around here will classify me as lacking any taste whatsoever for admitting this.
  16. - Ambush Bug - Reid Fleming, World's Toughest Milkman
  17. Season 3 is where the original show starts to get quite patchy.
  18. Also the first time I saw Jack Davis' art. Several years before I started reading ECs.
  19. Bryan Singer's homage to that film was extremely soporific.
  20. I enjoyed reading these as a kid, back in the 70s, when I bought the reprint titles. It wasn't until 1981 that I discovered EC science-fiction.
  21. DC had Marvel beat hands down in the sci fi dept. well thats a superhero book not a sci fi book also its mostly just photos I still stand by my statement. What is the distinction? None of them were 'hard sci fi', they all probably fit better into the same category as Star Wars - FF included - over generic sci-fi. +1 Science heroes, using advanced technology in their adventures. Reed Richards, Hank Pym, Tony Stark, as good examples.
  22. Sad to say, Neal Adams. There's often a similar comparison and criticism of his peak 70s work with his modern era art style. That said, he can still do some really brilliant commissions.
  23. I've seen worse examples of Kirby perspective than that Larsen cover.
  24. +1 I agree with the thread title, except in this one situation ; where the owner omitted books from your pull list / standing orders because they were hot issues and ‘someone came in and bought up most of the copies’, and then acts completely indifferent to the consequences of that decision. It breeds indifference in me, as well.
  25. To me, the copy looks like it has a spine roll. Actually quite a good comic, and Byrne draws the character well, particularly his earlier look.
