  1. Batch H obviously looks Hulk-like. I wonder if there are other alphabetised batches where they've mashed up genes from other characters with Logan's? I'm just trying to make what I'm seeing there suck even more.
  2. Expecting Carbonaro with his Action Comics 1 to be posted any time now.
  3. He might have been thinking... 'These things are expensive, for 3 bucks I could've got a printing press instead'.
  4. Seems more interested in the printing press ad on the back cover.
  5. I think it would be. Regarded by so many FF fans as one of the true highlights of the Lee / Kirby run. A great SA comic book.
  6. I always found the Newsboy Legion reprints very interesting as a British kid in the 70s, especially the very broad and unique-sounding Brooklyn accent. Well, as written, anyway.
  7. I’ve never had any interest whatsoever in flipping, so according to what’s being said here, I’m clearly an anomaly as it seems that ‘everyone’ is doing it. Recently, someone asked me for a bit of advice on this matter, saying that he really enjoys this kind of dealing and wanted to do a lot of it on eBay. I said the demand is there at present, but also I felt it was only fair to point out how the market has changed from a UK perspective; a poor exchange rate after last year’s Brexit decision, higher purchase prices as we’re now in a widespread speculator boom, and high USPS Air Mail rates from North America. A very pricey hobby for domestic collectors. I’m not too certain that the same opportunities are available in UK comic shops as the ASM 129 example that was described earlier on in the thread. Much rarer than they were back in the 90s here, I would suspect. Then again, also going from what’s been said here, the general consensus appears to be that there’ll be a mug somewhere to sell a book on to. At least this particular fledgling eBayer will go in fully informed about both sides of the argument, and already with greater business acumen and motivation than I clearly possess.
  8. The Judge Dredd Complete Case Files trade paperbacks are decent quality reprints, thick, and you might find the stories vary in quality but overall the books are pretty good value for money. Also, and getting the obvious out of the way, even though it's much older material you really should read the Bolland-drawn Dark Judge storylines.
  9. +1 I can only recall one occasion, a long time ago, when I decided to read a few comics in public and got a pitying, ‘he must be weird or a bit slow’ smirk, despite the fact that comics can help to teach kids to read, improve vocabulary at any age and make one generally more articulate. Maybe some careful selection is involved there, though.
  10. I can't even recall the last time I saw someone reading comics out in public, in coffee shops, etc., here in the UK. Not once. Maybe it's different somewhere like London?
  11. As with Dave / Oakman, there's a very limited number of books which I'm interested in at any particular time, and only single issues rather than long runs, and so it's relatively easy for me to keep track of what I still need. I'm not implying that I'm a key collector, just certain issues which have always meant a lot to me, story or art or character-wise, which makes them memorable enough without writing anything down or using smartphone software.
  12. It's very expensive and poor timing to be thinking about entering the key comic book market for those on a limited budget.
  13. Or this one, which is about as literal as possible...
  14. I can remember the books I still need, the gaps I need to fill. At any one time I'm not searching for a particularly wide range of material, anyway.
  15. That material was collected in a trade paperback edition, around 2000. No idea if it's been reprinted since then.
  16. Some comic art works superbly in black-and-white, especially chiaroscuro work such as by Alex Toth and Milton Caniff. Other examples ; Gene Colan, Jack Kamen, Matt Wagner.
  17. You'd more than likely enjoy The Final Incal by Jodorowsky and Ladronn, which continues Moebius' work but is much more space operatic.
  18. You could tell there was a plan to introduce a female version of The Master because of a short scene after John Simm's version regenerated.
  19. I wish it was that painless when dealing with the Royal Mail / Parcel Force, here in the UK. Great result.
  20. Hmm no. Kate Bush is the only qualified female to play the Doctor PJ Harvey. What about The Doctor's Daughter? or even Eva Green? Not Eva Green Completely impossible, anyway. She'd flat out refuse the role because there's no nudity in the show.
