  1. So I've been reading about some of the Easter Eggs in the film... Did anybody really see this, or is it just the internets making up stuff --
  2. You know, I like Kanigher, some of his stories are great, some are pretty good, others just kind of rote or so-so, especially, I think, as he career was winding down. And then he gets WWT and starts doing all this gonzo stuff with G.I. Robot and the Creature Commandos. I wonder if he was just enjoying himself, being unconstrained by the demands of trying to write a semi-believable war scenario (say, for Sgt. Rock), or if he was desperately throwing anything against the wall to see what would stick? (I seem to remember some pretty gonzo Haunted Tanks stories from Kanigher in the early 80s as well...)
  3. Took my three sons to see it yesterday. They had a blast. Giant ants are cool, stuff getting shrunk is cool, gigantic Thomas the Tank Engine...they loved it all (and asked for the Lego set afterward). After having a day to think about it, I think the creatives did an admirable job. Was it perfect? No. Pacing problems? A wee bit. Character problems? A smidgen. Were there plot holes? Yeah, sure. But I forgave all that stuff because the last act is just fantastic. When they get going on the heist, it's all rock and roll, baby!
  4. Once again, great magazines, great service!
  5. I thought the first season was done-in-one. Then all the Netflix/Marvel characters meet for their second season together in the Defenders. Am I wrong?
  6. Haven't there been multiple Ragnarok stories in the various Thor comics? What about Thor 272-278?
  7. I crack out my slabs, too. But I'm wondering -- Does anyone have a point where they say, if the book is worth X amount, or I paid X amount (X being, in your opinion, a lot of money, where the book takes on an investment quality), then it is better to just leave the book in the slab afterall? This is something I'm wrestling with at the moment...
  8. Huh. I suppose this is real but could it be some kind of fake-out?
  9. According to Bleeding Cool -- Sam Glanzman's A Sailor's Story is being reprinted in a new, complete edtion with bouns material! http://www.bleedingcool.com/2014/09/13/the-return-of-one-of-marvels-earliest-graphic-novels-a-sailors-story-by-sam-glanzman/
  10. Anybody else getting excited for the WWII tank movie Fury that's opening up next month? The trailers look pretty good. As I watch them, all I keep thinking of is G.I. Combat!
  11. Another great transaction, thanks, Aaron!
  12. I'm super rusty on my Blade Runner trivia, but I could swear that at one time Harrison Ford was either A) dismissive of the movie, and/or B) unhappy with the working experience. Something about Sean Young, perhaps? Am I wrong? Did he come around?
  13. Print runs were very small toward the end of the Gladstone run. The story from 310, "The Sign of the Triple Distelfink," hadn't been reprinted until this year's Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck FCBD book, published by Fantagraphics. (So, roughly 16 years since the first printing...) I haven't been buying Rosa duck books for a long time, but in the 2000s that Uncle Scrooge 310 was incredibly tough to find and copies would regularly sell for $100+ on eBay when they did show up (usually in F or FN/VF condition, tops). 14. Because OAAW 168 is the Soldier's 1st appearance. SSWS 151 is the Soldier's 1st solo book. Both are must haves for Unknown Soldier collectors. Yeah...but I remember reading somewhere (the Pedrin guide, maybe) that the Unknown Soldier in OOAW 168 dies at the end, and is therefore a different person than the one in SSWS 151. Although there's some kind of ret-conning going on in SSWS 157, I think, where they reprint the story from 168 with new bookends.
  15. Just got to read the War Report in the new OPG. Good stuff, thanks guys! But I'm curious -- why only mention OOAW 168 as the 1st app. of the Unknown Soldier? Has it been decided then that SSWS 151 is no longer the true 1st app.? I thought many of us were leaning toward SSWS 151...
  16. You are more then happy to share your source. Maybe he's referring to one of Gunn's recent tweets? (mid-way through the page) https://twitter.com/JamesGunn
  17. Thanks! I'd still like to find OAAW 157 & 165 in HG, too, sometime. Maybe I should start hunting war books again...
  18. Hey, guys -- I haven't posted in this thread in a long time. I haven't really picked up any war books in a long time, either! But, I've always been on the look-out for a well-presenting copy of OAAW 168 that didn't break the bank, and when this copy popped up on the bay I decided to pull the trigger. So I got lucky and I'm really digging this copy. Even if it isn't really the 1st app of the Unknown Soldier The stress lines actually don't look as bad in hand as they do in the scan. And the pages are white! Here goes...
  19. I've been on the fence about picking this one up. (And #5.) Prices always seemed a little expensive for this one. I saw quite a few unsold copies sitting around with high BINS. Do you think it's coming back, or are the speculators jst grabbing everything these days?
  20. Sweet books, Barton, esp. that Our Love Story 18 and the My Love 19.
  21. I always liked this Gene Day cover. Plus, Shang-Chi!
