  1. I've seen them but do not know much about them. They are story books for children ages 6 to 10 (total guess on my part!) I believe. Thanks, Silent Master! I found the cover to G.I. Joe The Spy Eye on mycomicshops's website. You're right, it does look like beginning reader kind of book. Any of you guys collect those G.I. Joe Choose-Your-Own Adventure books from the 80s? I do have a full set of those! And a short set of GI Joe novels (geared towards 12 to 16 year olds). I like collecting all the GI Joe printed material I can find. Even some 80's GI Joe coloring books. Cool, are they any good? Do you have any pix?

  3. Have any of you guys ever seen a couple of Marvel digest-sized books with the titles G.I. Joe Spy Eyes and G.I. Joe Operation Disappearance?
  4. Ive always wondered this as well. Ive misplaced my copy but is GIC #45 listed as significant, highly significant or fairly significant in Pedrin's book? He lists it as Highly Significant. According to Pedrin, in the story "Fireworks Hill," one of the characters stands there "...like a rock." In the face of enemy fire, I'm guessing? I haven't read the issue. I think we need the War Report guys to chime in here. (They don't mention the issue in the latest OSPG.)
  5. Wow...I guess I feel both happy and sad about this. Happy because I have a copy. Sad because I think a reprint would be great for the hobby and it's not going to happen. I suppose alot of the info in the guide is available online these days anyway.
  6. Was there only one Big Five guide that was created? Yup. It comes up for sale every once and awhile. Usually goes for anywhere between $60 - $100. However, since I only recently got a copy, I'm sure a reprint will be announced any day now.
  7. Chris Pedrin's Big Five Guide considers SSWS 151 the first app of the Unknown Soldier, so that's good enough for me!
  8. Nice books, underthebigw! Who handled the interior artwork for those Charlton romance books?
  9. Great books, Fay! That WWT 5 is particularly nice.
  10. I had that too. best playset ever. I still have the two yellow cannon around somewhere. That's the one! Man, I loved that playset. Every once and awhile, I get the urge to buy it again. As far as Marx playsets go, it's on the lower end, price-wise. But, a good, complete set can run you around $400 or so.
  11. I never did, but I did have an awesome Marx Guns of Navarone playset! Guns of Navarone!
  12. Here's something I've been wondering about... Kubert did a ton of G.I. Combat covers (especially the $1.00 issues) well into the 1980s, until the book was finally cancelled. And yet, I've never seen any come up for sale, or be posted on CAF. (Of course, I could be wrong, I'm still new to collecting OA.) Does anyone know if Kubert is still hanging on to these? I thought he opened his vault a few years ago, perhaps he doesn't want to flood the market with his material?
  13. Hey...I just finished Harvest Home! You're right -- good, vintage horror. Tryon lets the horror slowly build, something that's alot harder to do than it looks. You should check out The Tenant by Roland Topor. I'm starting The Other pretty soon. Taking a break, though, and reading about old Marx toys right now.
  14. +1 And does anyone know if that's that the real splash page for Easy's First Tiger, or a recreation?
  15. Thanks, Fay and bronzejonny! That's a pretty sweet OAAW 216 you got there! And bronzejonny -- the Unknown Soldier's first app is SSWS 151! (At least, until I get my own copy of OAAW 168...) I've been getting the war book itch again. I recently picked up Paratrooper's copy of the Chris Pedrin book and a GIC 103. I've been thinking about going backwards into the SA/ and maybe picking up a few more early BA. DC is putting out one of their B&W Showcase editions for Weird War Tales around December. Does anyone know if the Losers Showcase reprints all the extra stuff, like the Toth stories? (I already have all the OFF floppies, but something like this might be nice to have anyway.)
  16. Very cool, Matthew! I like the wood grain detail on the post she's tied to. Nice job on the hair, too. Oh, and...uh...skull boobies.
