  1. I still think they should have retained the 50/50 centering requirement for perfect. Remember, under the green system, a 10 wasn’t gem; a 10 meant pristine or perfect. The gem mint standard (9.5) for the green labels allowed 55/45 one way and 50/50 the other, and the mint was 55/45 all around, so it was possible to get a 55/45 gem mint green. It just wasn’t possible to get a perfect… and it was extremely rare to get a pristine. So, a green “perfect” needed 50/50 all around. A green “pristine” needed 55/45 one way and 50/50 the other, and a green “gem mint” needed 55/45 both ways. The black “perfect” allowed for 55/45 both ways, which is where I’ve always held contention. At least, with the CGC switch, they use vague terminology, so no one can really complain about the grade.
  2. When CSG does the wipedown of submitted cards, is this to remove dust? fingerprint oils? both? Will this continue when CGC takes over?
  3. Hi Ryan, When did the 14-day restriction become a policy? I don’t recall that ever being mentioned for any of my submissions.
  4. Do not take this as legal advice, but my experience (US resident) has always been that you send it out with intention to have it returned to you and inform Customs of that.
  5. I’m surprised CSG authenticated that at all. Weren’t Classic “auto” cards from that era notorious for being backdoored without signatures, then forgers added the signs later? That’s why PSA made the policy of requiring all autos before a certain year go through PSADNA.
  6. That’s a fine looking card. I would say, if you want the CSG label, send the card back today, but if you can wait a week, it seems a mechanical error would justify a fancy new CGC label, on the house, of course. :P
  7. When a card is reholdered from Green to Black, the certificate number changes. The new black card is added to the pop report, but the previous green card is never removed.
  8. An addendum to what you said… such miscut seem to hold value in the TCG space… in some instances for paper money collectors, too. I think, if a stamp somehow had a perforation in the middle of the image, that might also have collectible value.
  9. The edges are pretty bad, so I would say 5-6 range. There might be an issue with a surface wrinkle that doesn’t show up due to the strong white photos that CSG uses.
  10. Out of curiosity, why doesn't CSG remove cards from the pop report when they're reholdered (green to black)?
  11. It will alter the marketability, yes. So long as CCG says they will do automatic crossing of CSG Green 10 to CGC Black Pristine, you don't need to do anything. If they ever say they're going to stop allowing such crosses, then you should consider it.
  12. Were the cards curled from the way Topps packed factory sets in the 80s? That might have been enough to push the surface grade to an 8, which would mean an 8.5 overall.
  13. Based upon how CSG treated the green to black CSG transition, the answer would be not necessarily. I had 9/9/9.5/9.5 cards return as 9 in one case and 9.5 in another.
  14. I would assume it needs to be in the system before the 11th.
  15. So… you’re charging for what amounts to a 12 day membership?
  16. I would like to know whether this move was to allow CCG to grade non-sport, non-TCG cards. It seems CGC only graded TCG cards and CSG only graded sports(-themed) cards, which meant all those Marvel and DC cards simply had nowhere to go within the CCG family. Also, I would like to know whether new/black CGC will use the vague CGC grading standards or the slightly less vague CSG grading standards. Also, does CGC taking the brand lead mean we’ll start seeing “miscut” labeled cards on the sport end? It would be great to be able to “upgrade” my 2.5 Messier RC to a 8.5 “miscut” card. After all, we all know that the CGC side of things somehow has an audience that places a premium on severe centering issues.
  17. Does this mean graders wipe down cards as a standard policy before grading?
  18. What do you mean by a sealed deck? Topps wax packs are literally that: waxed paper wrapped cards in a pack of 15.
  19. That’s stunning that they’re willing to grade what amounts to be a promo card for a bar.
  20. Will CGC be continuing to have subgrades on the new labeling system?
  21. I had sent in a card for reholdering that they destroyed, so if you want the card, I concur.
  22. It’s working now. The one on the title page. I had to use my phone instead of my laptop.
  23. Are they going to use the CGC (vague at best) grading definitions or the CSG (specific but changes annually) ones? Also, CGC has subgrades, will cards that had CSG green subs get the subs back if I relabel to CGC?
