Shipped just now, sadly they forgot the custom label.... so i got the cost of it credited to my account.

This has been a mess. Late grade, as in it took 9 weeks after it signed to ship. Went 2 weeks from signing to go into GEI and then sat in GEI status for 6 weeks....

Bummer situation, no doubt. Hopefully it will last as your worst CGC experience. After my very first submission turned clusterf--- my mindset is "my luck can't get this bad again!"

If it's any consolation, I dig that cover with the solid yellow label more than any of the customs.

Is there actual evidence of these whatnot and other live auctions books being paid for is my question?

The sellers know immediately whether a payment goes through after every auction. The buyer is hit with the payment as soon as they win. I suspect (but am not positive) that with ebay live you still have to go through checkout which would probably result in higher amount of non-payments.

Whatnot operates a bit differently since those are books on hand and the artist is usually at the show.  They also enforce a time limit on when books have to ship.  Website is a bit different since they are usually preorders and they have to get the books to the artists overseas or wait until theres a stateside event.  I'm expecting to just hear something about delays at CGC or their warehouse from customer support service and would rather know other what other people are experiencing.

I get what you're saying, but it's been a year and that's a bunch of books (assuming you listed your pre-orders), I wouldn't hesitate to fire off an email. Squeaky wheel and all that. The dude who runs the Whatnot is like the AC lead in the states. You can ask on one of their lives.

Has anyone else been been waiting over a year for signature series slabs from artgermcollectibles.com? I know it's can take a while since the artists are not based in the US, but since they're done US shows this year it can't be just because of that right?

Did you reach out to customer service? What did they tell you? I got two signed books from them off the Artgerm Collective Whatnot channel and paid for CGC and they were shipped to me within 6 weeks.

  5. Hope this question is thread-appropriate -- is there a particular type of cover that is better suited for a remark? I've thought about submitting DC cardstock and foil covers before but don't know if those are ill-suited for ink or troublesome for artists. Anyone have an opinion?

I'm fine if just the bottom staple is detached; I'm worried he will be more pissed he didn't get his refund and do something more based on the tone of his emails. I would hope if that happens eBay would see that damage not noted in his messages and side with me, but you never know. I am also playing the "what if" game, so I will wait and see what happens.

Yes, here is his additional details in the return request. At this point all I said to him was "send the book back."

Total nightmare pos ebayer. Dude has left 14 negative reviews in the last 6 months. Either they somehow have the worst judgment/luck with sellers or they are a shameless grifter/psychopath.

I agree his wording was rude, but their rude bluntness with you is what most educated buyers would be feeling with your rationale on your asking price.

There are like seven of these FF slabs on ebay in 7.0 and only two are  priced below $850 (a CBCS and restored label). Did this dude also dm all the other listings to complain? If I wasted time on every book that I saw on ebay that was overpriced I'd have no time at all. Wouldn't block this buyer, but their behavior is not commendable in the slightest.

  8. Just found this post.

I'd block user alpe-6626 if I were you. When I first started selling on ebay last fall this dude try to shake me down for partial refund after receiving his books. My listing had plenty of photos of the defects, and I went out of my way in the description to detail the condition. I told him to return and he immediately filed a INAD complaint with ebay. They ruled I did nothing wrong, but they still refunded him and let him keep the books. Dude has pattern of leaving negative reviews and his positive feedback was like, "book came damaged but seller did the right thing."

You could order 3000, pick out the top 400, send to CGC and screen for 9.8.  Get them to only slab 200, charge $10 reject fee for the other 200. When they all come back, destroy any not slabbed (2800). Now you have a 200 at 9.8, super exclusive, only 200 exist. Charge crazy money to make up for the 2800 lost and related costs. You lose a few thousand $$$, but make tens of thousands.

Yeah, they sold out at $200 a pop -- so $40k gross. Let's say Marvel charges $3-6k (?) for 3,000 trade dress. Artist gets a $3-5k for the cover. CGC slabs 200 moderns for around $5k plus whatever surcharge for the numbered label and disposal. Net 20+ grand?

So CGC has no time for the graders to open moderns or for quality control but their going to start participating in destroying books to artificially inflate the value?!

Still just trying to figure out how exactly this service is offered. Do retailers pitch this kind of "project" to them and CGC quotes a price? Does CGC get somethin besides the fees for grading the one book plus custom labels (eg promise of x number of submissions/business from that retailer)? Or is there a secret menu for all retailers and they could have all been requesting this service but it is considered too cost prohibitive so we rarely see it?

This just feels like a weird step beyond Signature Series in terms of participating in the hobby themselves.

We'll see how much steam this one has...

So I have never seen this, from the retailer page: "INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED ON CGC LABEL # of 200...CGC will take possession of the entire print run and permanently dispose of any and all Overage."

Any idea what CGC's premium on this is? Custom labels and "disposing" of less than 9.8s?
