  1. guardians of the galaxy 7-first appearance malevolence. Definitely a possibility in regards to Karen Gillan, but a weak speculation based on her hair color. I would personally put my money on Death. Would fit way better in regards to the cosmic universe than a the super lame character, Malevolence. http://marvel.wikia.com/Death_%28Cosmic_Entity%29 Death, as in War is Hell 9 Death? Captain Marvel 27 according to Wikipedia Captain Marvel 26 even! Now were are into the whole Mistress Death vs John Kowalski as Death thing. I suppose CM 26 will win that one.

  3. 2 Months 9 Days I am getting stuff back that I subbed the last week of March. The performance turnaround is nothing short of miraculous. It's almost too good - 6 months to 2 months. I almost shudder to think how they pulled it off.
  4. Wait! I didn't think there where any comic collectors left in Montana after I left! There were three of us, now there are two. There can be only one. Well Dr. B you have the official stamp of awesomeness, so I guess you would be the one! I dunno. BleuHawaii's collection is pretty impressive. I'm a little like Richie Ryan to his Duncan McCloud. I need some help from Ramirez. You're in league with Lucifer!
  5. Those other books are more rare, for sure. I think this was the first ever Valiant made book; other books to find that are quite rare are the variants of the Nintendo Hardcovers. Also, the 4 TPB books are pretty tough to find, and good buys anywhere south of $20: "Mario Special Powers", "Koopa Kids", "Battle against Bowser" and "Tantaga Invades Earth". If you can find them in high grade, jump on them, they basically don't exist! I strongly disagree with the 4 books listed above being rare overall. There are tons and tons or warehouse overstock of the "Valiant Illustrated Action Books" out there. The 4 Nintendo ones are named above, there are also WWF ones. The have appeared by the palette-load at stores like "Odd Lot" and "Building 19" here in the northeast. They are on eBay all the time. I've found that one of the 4 appears less than the other three Nintendo ones. Now, many do have price stickers and have been stored improperly, so finding 9.8s can be really tough despite them being plentiful. I agree on that point. I have yet to get 9.8s on most of them and have settled for 9.6s and 9.4s. Also, we use VIAB instead of TPB to talk about these books. This allows us to distinguish them from the "real" Nintendo softcover TPBs by Valiant. On the subject of those early promotional Valiant pamphlets, they can be hard to come by. Nearly all of the supply we have was limited to a single seller who had cleaned out the Valiant offices when they closed. The KFC one in both Spanish and English falls into this category as well.
  6. I got modern subs back last week that were received by CGC 1/17/13, that's a definite improvement.
  7. What are you asking about the Zelda 1 no-price? http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d181/ckb42/CGC%20Registry/Valiant/The%20Legend%20of%20Zelda/LegendofZelda1nopriceCGC94-1.jpg They were created for and used as the top book in multi-packs. There are certainly less of them than the version with the cover price but Valiant printed a lot of Nintendo books. Many were sold into the non-comic marketplace so despite the print runs finding sharp copies can be tougher than you would expect. There is a Captain N #1 no-price that was used for the same purpose. There is also a Super Mario 3 no-price with a Random House logo that was blister packed with a cassette. That book turns up sometimes but the thing still in the blister pack with the cassette does not.
  8. Don't worry Romeo, I thought it was very funny. If the devil had a comic book grading company, the road to hell would be paved with dollars.
  9. Speaking of advertisements - I'm not surprised to hear Matt had a background in the industry since he did such a great job with the back cover ads. I was wondering if anyone figured out what the Easter Egg was that was hinted at on the back cover ad of #6. Matt squirreled away a hint that something could be done with the back covers of 1-6. I do not have a #1 so I didn't go any deeper with it.
  10. All this great discussion caused some shifts in perception. Interesting! What's the split between the 1991 end of Copper and 1991 beginning of Chromium? If we are really going to call it the Chromium age the cutoff should be Bloodshot 1 / Superman 75 (Feb 1993, BS1 coincided with Death of Superman). I would favor a different name and using Harbinger 1 (Jan 1992) as the cutoff. I'm fond of "Pyrite Age" but I doubt that can catch on.
  11. Nice spin - if the Phantom variants were truly an "aggressive" tool to attempt to build readership, they'd be priced at cover. I think you're confusing your variants with the Image First books  Larry had all the Phantoms available at cover in his shop when I was there last week.
  12. 1st Cletus Cassidy who later becomes Carnage. I own a copy as well but that price is a little higher than I'd be willing to pay. Good luck to the winner and the buyer. It's a cool book. (thumbs u Same here. 9.6's have sold for a fraction of that, so it stuck out to me as I was checking out your site. I don't see any 9.8's in the completed listings. Haven't checked GPA yet, so I don't know what the trends have been like. Trending up. No recorded sales over $100 ever. 90 day average is $85, 12 month is $74.
  13. The current turnaround times that are on CGC's site (eg. 100 business days for moderns) are pretty accurate - my last regular modern submission was around 92 business days, so they might be slightly better than listed. Don't be tempted to look at that (accurate) 92 business days number and think three months. It is a 5-6 month wait from mailing the books to getting them back in the mail.
  14. The cover-only foil-less one was a convention giveaway, so yes. There are foil-deprived misprint Deathmates of all shapes and sizes out there that also have the full interior, of course. As mentioned. I thought I had the record for relists! I have a few listings going on 7 years....
  15. The thing that really catches my eye there is that Valiant Gold Logo sticker. If that ever makes it back into your hands and is for sale, send me a message!
  16. I think grab bags are frowned upon. They may even be agains eBay rules. I could be wrong. I don't think they are against the rules because I see them all the time. Unless eBay just can't keep up. I just don't want to take the time to sell them separately, so I don't care about losing the extra money by doing a grab bag. I'll let others weigh in. It might be one of those things that are against the rules, but eBay either doesn't have the capacity, or they let the community police itself. Whatever works though. "Mystery boxes" appear to be allowed by eBay rules. "You will get 12 Walking Dead comics for $100" seems to be OK. "Cherry Pick" listings are against the rules. You cannot put up a list of 50 books and say the winner gets to pick 12.
  17. Oh I want one, but I $20 ppd want one, not $130 want one.
  18. I got a look at a large number of these (MM 0,2-7) today, and as far as condition goes on a CGC scale, even 9.4s are going to be relatively tough. These were not produced well at all. They have spine issues and staple issues and are generally low QP. Starting with issue 6 things changed and the QP improved noticably. So if you are looking for 9.8s my opinion is that it will be tough even if the book has had the best of care. If the print runs are low, even worse.
  19. CGC 9 total graded blue, none yellow, and the highest grade is a 9.6. Seems pretty wide open for a flyer on a high grade raw with the hopes of ending up with a 9.8. It is our experience in the Valiant world that with these Acclaim books the best you can expect in the wild is a 9.6. The print runs were small and few people cared, a bad combo for high grade books. They exist, I'm just saying that fliers are very very likely to crash.
  20. I have sold sharp SM 43s for ~$20 pretty recently. 43 is the last Valiant issue, not acclaim. The Acclaim volume 2s do not have much of a following. The GBU variant is actually Vol 3. I am a buyer of 9.8 candidates but that's just not going to happen. I have a CGC 9.something and a raw copy so I'd just be looking to upgrade. They will sell on valiantfans.com at the right price. In general, the Vol 3 are more interesting than the Vol 2. The Vol 3 #6 is a tough book. They are all thick and not easy finds above 9.4.
  21. Slabbing technology has come a long way!
  22. I assuming you are not being serious right? If you don't want the hassle of your scenario happening, you simply insure on the high end, otherwise if you under-insure and something happens to your books in transit, you have nobody to blame but yourself. So if you think a book is CGC 9.9 I can assume then you will be sending in any book under the standard or economy tier then right? If you sent in a X-men 266 expecting a CGC 9.9 grade then of course you would not quality for the modern tier to begin with. However using your logic I completely disagree. No one sends in a book assuming it will be a 9.9. Lets say you do insure a X-men #266 to the full value that is allowed which is $200 per book. (aka customer is maxing out their potential) That is more than what a 9.8 sells for, so you think the customer is to blame in an event of a lose not knowing the book was graded at 9.9 or 10? Yep, if you get the "magical" 9.9 or 10, and don't have enough of an eye to know that it might get more than a 9.8, and you don't bother to submit under the proper tier and insure it to a high enough amount, than the customer is to blame. After all, why should CGC be to blame because the customer didn't want to spend the extra money to submit and insure the book? Sometimes saving money upfront costs you a lot more money on the other side. That's some sound logic right there. Gee I wonder why CGC doesn't have a 9.9 or 10.0 pre-screen service available. I better practice my grading skills because I have never assume I would get a 9.9 or 10.0 on any book I have submitted. Shame on me. In a rare instance, I actually agree with SoT here. An "eye" to know a book better than a 9.8? I agree. Insuring every 9.8 pre-screen like it's going to come back a 10.0 is And it has nothing to do with grading eye or ability to apply an unpublished standard.... It has to do with the ODDS.
  23. Just nuts. I sold many of the Star Lord magazines over the years for almost nothing - very common book. Mine always seemed to sell on Ebay to Australians.
