So I get that there are literally millions of slabs out there that don't have this but for anything from the last few months and going forward, there are pictures of the book for all to see, correct? So really this has inadvertently already been corrected by the imaging that CGC instituted a few months ago, correct? Or am I missing something?

I thought a few others had pointed out that sometimes the original image is being replaced once the book goes through the reholder process (Or if it’s a book that was originally stabbed more than 6 months ago, the reholder image is now the original image). Which means that image is worthless if it’s just a photo of the fake book you’re buying.

Don't take this the wrong way, but it seems like a good time to revisit this question I've always had:  What is it about a 9.4 or 9.6 of this book that makes it so much less acceptable to so many people?  Is it actually the appearance of the book?  Or is more that the ease of obtaining it in those grades limits the desirability?  Or maybe something else altogether?

Nah, no offense taken at all. I already have a 9.6 but maybe it’s an OCD thing but I want the best possible copy I can afford. It always rankles me a little bit knowing better copies exist that I could afford.

Me too, and this is one of the ripple effects that worry me. I have five ASM 252s in a submission that is currently SFG and three of those copies were from crack and resubs. I fixed them all up and made each copy look a lot better.

I do crack and resubs because it is fun and I get a charge out of making books I love look better. If I get a 9.8 on any of them it is a victory, but now if I get a 9.8 I may not be able to get FMV or even be able to sell it easily if it comes to a point where I decide to move on from the book. This is the specific reason why I am hoping that, at some point, there will be an official release of slab numbers that are suspicious (i.e., those submitted by this fraudster). I dont see this happening though so I am already bracing for another hit to value to go along with the one that is already happening in the post-comic boom era.

TL;DR - Even people who have not bought fraudulent books may still feel the impacts of all of this.

This. ASM 252 9.8 was on my “will eventually buy” list and right now I wouldn’t go anywhere near it. And it’s not just that book. I’m extremely cautious pulling the trigger on anything because the lack of response from CGC makes me question how deep all of this goes.

Funnily enough I don't care about those, they are not 1st apps, 1st mario is blip 1 and nintendo comic systems preview nn is 1st zelda(and punch out!). And those books cost near the same prices

You’re counting Blip even though it’s not technically a comic? It’s a magazine. Are you looking for just the first appearance of a video game character in “comic” form regardless of the type of publication? Like if the first “comic” appearance of Sonic, for example, was in a strip from like Mad Magazine, would you count that?

  6. Can I get some opinions on this? Just picked this up from MCS and they have it graded at a 4.0. I’m going to get it sent to CGC, but would you press it first? It has “finger bends” and a small crease on the right hand side, but I don’t think it’s going to raise it out of a 4, regardless. What do you all think?

It's not so much an intentional omission as just something we have never built support for. Currently, items are either BINs, or auctions, but not both.

We could build something to allow items to be designated for auction in the future but remain as BINs. It's doable, and a good idea.

Did you all get rid of the Zelle option for when you buy a consignment/auction item? It was a great way to avoid the buyer’s premium, especially when I’ve won items over $1k, but I’ve noticed it hasn’t been there on the last few items I’ve bought.

This is insane. This is actually insane. I am sorry. My blood boiled reading this.

Thanks, it’s been a nightmare. It took a weeks for the police to even take a report even though the Pop is worth more than $950, which is the threshold for felony theft in CA. When I would message eBay with questions such as “does this mean any buyer can now just claim “item not as described,” do a credit card chargeback, and keep the item?,” it was either ignored or answered with a form response.  eBay is NOT worth it. I would never in a thousand years sell anything of value on there now because of what I’ve gone through.

Yes. That’s exactly correct. I sold an item for $1,500 USD, at which point eBay paid themselves 13% of the sale. So the buyer paid, eBay took their fee, and the remainder of the total, now sits in hold for 30 days after payment of the buyer.
In the past, to avoid the hold, I’d have to send with tracking (which I always did) but now with signature confirmation (which I would do for anything over 1,000), and eBay added a stipulation that, if positive feedback was also received, then they could approve a ‘next day’ fund transfer.

But due to the ‘high priced’ value of this item (I have sold items for higher values before, even in the same annual quarter), they have decided to hold the payment, regardless, for 30 full days.

I suspect eBay is holding funds under the shadow of their 30 day eBay guarantee for buyers to open a dispute, even after giving positive feedback, they can’t justify sending me the buyer’s funds.

Even though, I’ve had my eBay account for 8 years, my score is 434, with zero negative feedback, ever. I’m also not a high volume seller. I sell maybe $10k-$20k a year. I probably buy maybe $10k a year

I’ve stopped on eBay because they’re so anti-seller. I sold a Pop earlier this year for $1300. eBay took their fees, I sent off the item, all good. A month later the buyer does a chargeback with her credit card company under the guise of “item not as described.” Since it’s a chargeback with the credit card company and not through eBay, eBay says it’s hands are tied, honors the chargeback, takes back the money they gave me PLUS the fees, and the buyer still has my Pop. eBay refuses to do more. I’ve had to file a police report and a report with the post office and my next step is small claims court.

This is why I sell all my comics now through MCS. They’ll post it on eBay and on their own site and handle everything including returns. For sales they charge only 10% and if you do it as an auction on their site, it’s only an 8% commission.
