    Grader Notes
light spine stress lines to cover
moderate creasing to cover - it brings the grade down.

Penalizing non-color breaking bends is the CGC grading practice that I least agree with.  And sfcityduck's two examples perfectly illustrate why.  I doubt there is a collector out there who, if presented with the same book in the two grades shown, would take the 8.0 over the 7.0.

There was going to be a high quality collection of pre-Batman Detective Comics as well, but it got canceled (likely due to concern over some questionable for today stories).

I was unaware of this.  Do you have any further information regarding what was considered "questionable"?

Also, does anyone know what this comment in the article is about:  "There will also be a shocking revelation of a "Bill Finger-type" forgotten co-creator of a major comic book character who will require comic book history books to be rewritten."

    Aquaman

The media trashes him...outright lies LOL.  Like his movie is so bad that everyone walked out of the test screenings.

They said Flash was the best movie of all time...the test screening audience gave a 5 minute standing ovation.  And Blue Beetle is the heart & soul of the new DCU.  While Aquaman 2 is irrelevant.

Even CGC says the only comic-book movie in December is Wonka.  And they deleted their Comics General - Movies section.

That may be a valid complaint, but until the movie is released and we all have had a chance to see it, we have no basis to discredit the negativity by those who have seen it.

Not sure they had a choice. Ian was a low grade collector. But there is a Batman 1 and D27-D38 and the high grade ashcan. None of which should be pooh poohed. Plus some oddities. And little in the DC world is more popular than Batman.

I didn't notice the ashcan.  Yes, that's a nice touch.

Has the auction already started?  If so, it appears that you cannot see the pending bids unless you sign up and log in.

From your collecting experience and personal POV, do you think MM 7 is close to MM 2 in value due to its extreme rarity in grade or still a long ways off?  hm

IMO, due to its relative rarity, a MM #7 in mid-grade or better is likely worth more than a MM #2 in equivilant grade.

From a strict artistic POV though setting aside the rarity factor, I much prefer MM 8 over MM 7 myself. (thumbsu

I agree with you that the cover of MM #7 is underwhelming and that #8's cover is better.

Yes, I was absolutely shocked when I noticed this at the end of last year, but then it seems to be pretty locked in with multiple copies in the CGC 3.0 to CGC 3.5 condition range now consistently fetching in the $5K to $7K price range at both Heritage and CC during the past couple of years.  This was definitely not the case back in 2017 when the Jon Berk Church copy of MM 3 in CGC 9.6 sold for $57K while the Berk/Church copy of MM 2 in equivalent CGC 9.6 condition grade managed to fetch only $38,500.  (thumbsu

The question now is whether the HTF Mystery Men 7 has also overtaken Mystery Men 3 due to its sheer rarity in grade with only the Church copy in CGC 8.0 being the only copy to grade above CGC 4.0 out of a meagre total of only 12 unrestored Universal copies in the census to date?  :whatthe:

Especially considering that even raw restored lower grade Good copies or even certified restored 2.5 graded copies have been selling into the $3K price range during the past year or so:

Golden Age (1938-1955):Superhero, Mystery Men Comics #7 (Fox, 1940) Condition: Apparent GD....

Raw restored Good copy for $3,120 back in June of 2022 and then this certified restored 2.5 graded PLOD copy for $3,360 in February of 2023: :applause:

Heck, it even looks like real low grade beater Fair copies even with the much dreaded Slightly Brittle PQ desigantion are still approaching 4-figures:  :jawdrop:

Golden Age (1938-1955):Superhero, Mystery Men Comics #7 (Fox, 1940) CGC Apparent FR 1.0 Slight (C-1) Slightly brittle pages....

Hate these fugly looking oversized magazine holders and yet sold for some $840 last month with another Fair CGC 1.0 graded restored PLOD copy (albeit with much better OW/W pages) selling for $990 back in February of 2021.  :applause:

So, hopefully you are also not looking for a #7 then.  :roflmao:

Due to its rarity, there's no question that MM #7 is more valuable than MM #3.  MM #8 is likely also more valuable.

I was surprised to see the high prices paid for the mid-grade copies of Eagle #2 and #4, both of which went for around 10X Guide.  I didn't realize this was such a coveted run.

Tec 29 5.5 last one in that grade was in 2020 for 102k but it was a sweet copy. Guess the anchor stamps didn't help much. Should have marketed it as The Anchor Copy but I guess they didn't have the anchor stamp to go with it.

The Tec #29 was weighted down more by its slightly brittle pages than by its anchors.
