Neither of those is my favorite Fox PL book, and for me PL 23 is close to the bottom of the list. I don't think that one has particularly good cover art. I don't think of myself as a GGA collector, though, so I'm probably not focusing on the same things as the typical GGA guy.
You are correct that many, if not most, GGA collectors focus on certain "things" that are prominently displayed in PL 17 and 23.

Then again, unless it was own by Metro, what is the owner's real rate of return after purchasing it for $3.18M and now after factoring in their discounted selling fees?
This is a good point. Taking into account sales tax and other potential additional fees, the cost of purchasing it from Heritage a year ago was likely over $3.2 million. ComicConnect charges a 10% commission, so the original buyer would have needed to clear at least $3.52 million to break even.

Excited to have added an Eldon (scripted Eldon Tuffentsamer?) to 'ye ole collection to pair with my Eldon (blocky Eldon Hamman)? re-posted at bottom.
@Straw-Man and @nearmint do I have this right?
Looking for some help. I'm still trying to sort out the "right" Eldons from this thread as it gets a bit confusing with Hammon, Tuffenstamer and Dedini and pics from photo bucket missing. Can anyone definitively separate the three - or confirm which these two belong to?
Although the cursive "Eldon" reflected on your Jumbo is the most common, CGC has also credited the block letter version as being part of the same pedigree collection:

Yes, this was my number one target in the Berk auction, and I was grateful that it may have had a low profile in the sea of incredible Church Foxes.

I think that almost all of the long-time GA Board members, including Lou Fine, are good folks who don't intend their comments to be taken personally, even though some of them may be perceived to be personal. We all have different collecting tastes and views about the hobby. I believe that when those views are expressed, they typically are directed at the issue rather than at any particular people. I think it's good to have differing views aired on our forum even when they aren't shared by all of us.

There are three US institutions that seek and maintain repositories of comics and comic art: Syracuse Univ, Ohio State Univ, and Mich State Univ.
There is also a Comic-Con museum in San Diego.

Prices were strong for GA with a number of unexpectedly strong results.
I don't know about the GA selection as a whole, but I can tell you that all of the books I was eyeing went for record breaking prices.

I never would have thought that The Eagle #1 was such a prized book. The current bid (including juice) on the MH copy is over $25K. I guess the market on Fox books remains on fire despite the recession.

But how could they have known, especially when there are only 165 copies in 9.8?

I posted this in the NS pedigree thread but never got an answer, maybe you all could help: can anybody help confirm if the issue of More Fun Comics #70 I have is a Nova Scotia pedigree?
There is a very obvious M on the cover, though hard to see in my photos. It almost seems like a previous own might have slightly erased it during cleaning (as the part that overlaps the red ink in the title is noticeably darker, as if it wasn't touched)?
It was sent to CGC and they did not mark it as such (I have no documentation)
For comparison here's the Nova Scotia MF 57.

As one who has been vocal about the over-grading of the Promise books, I will say this. Although most issues were over-graded, the books I ended up seeing in person had deep/rich colors and lots of gloss. In my opinion, Promise books generally don't match up to high grade Church books, but they are nicer than those in many other respected GA pedigrees, including Billy Wright, Crippen, Cosmic Aeroplane, Crowley, Windy City, Rockford, Nova Scotia and Lost Valley.
Bottom line: It's a very impressive collection, but one that was over-graded, which unfortunately taints its reputation.

Given the census ranking of the 6.5 (plus ped to boot), I honestly thought it would end up in the 90s.
The book had numerous tape stains that are not normally found on a 6.5, which may have affected some buyers.

They say they are planning to sell the collection. How is it going to be marketed, through Heritage?

I can't count all the times someone has opined that a book is the Larson copy simply because it had an "L" written on the cover. An "L" is not a Larson feature. Rather the words "Lamont" and/or "Larson" are written out. In other cases, there is specific coding that is the giveaway.

Thank you! I am very happy with where I am at this point, still have items ending this evening, Monday & Tuesday too. I think my biggest surprise was that the 1st appearance of the arrow was eclipsed by the cover of Funny Pages V4 #1. That one surprised me.
How close were you to completing a run of all Centaurs? It looked like you got most of the tough issues.
