  1. Your style of collecting is becoming more scarce. I see more people now that just buy keys than common issues. There are a lot of people with lists that just have 1st apps/keys/hot cover books on them instead of issues needed to complete runs. I am at the point now that when I do buy a collection most of the books, including low to mid grade 50s, 60s and 70s common issues just go straight to my dollar bins. I would rather get my money back fast from dumping the common issues and sitting on the keys for a couple of years than vice versa. Tomorrow I will have a couple of long boxes with SA and BA low to mid grade books at $1 to clear up space (some of the Dells/Gold Key are earlier) no need to keep dead stock.
  2. It's only cheaper if you are paying full retail price for the TPBs. You can land most of these for $5 - $10 (or less) either on the secondary market or discounted by stores at conventions. I dumped my Conan and Savage Sword collections, except for the keys, way back when Dark Horse started to reprint the issues. It was easy to see which way the common issues were heading.
  3. I have been commenting on this for a while now. Keys and hot covers are where the action will be in the future for the hobby (just like it is for sportscards, stamps, coins, etc.) Due to the various reprint formats available to readers, there is no need to fill runs any more with more expensive back issues. Instead, collectors will just buy the key/hot cover book and read the rest via reprints. It is the way all hobbies evolve.
  4. Looking at the trade from a financial perspective, as long as the AF #15 checks out as unrestored in the stated grade it is a win for you. Flip it and buy another Hulk #181 CGC 9.4 to replace your copy and add a couple of grand to the war chest.
  5. Wow. Those are great results. Do you have scans that you can share? I would love to see the B&B #28.
  6. They are creeping towards that with some of the other tiers. Value is up to 50 business days already which means my submission form May 31 will not be back until August. To speed things up they just need to slap 9.8 on all of the books in my Modern submission and all will be fine from my perspective.
  7. Okay, now that this thread has been derailed, it is closed.
  8. And I can give you a great example. We've been setting up at the Calgary Expo for 10 years. We were the first guys to bring CGC graded books to that show. It was tough to sell them and most people didn't want them or would ask what the dingo they were. Then Stan Lee came to town and signed thousands of books over the weekend and most were sent on to CGC via Desert Wind. That introduced graded comics to thousands of people, some long time collectors, some occasional collectors and certainly many who'd never bought a comic before but wanted a piece of Stan Lee who is essentially this centuries Shakespeare. I had guys coming to my booth asking for something Stan Lee worked on, they had no idea what and I'd start showing them covers until one caught their imagination. Some of those guys picking up their first graded comic will probably never buy another comic but I'm sure some got Mcfarlene to sign this year or whomever last year. And some will get drawn into the hobby and buy more. Agreed. I have been doing local shows since I was in university in the late 1990s. There has been two large noticeable collector influxes in Alberta, especially over the past decade: 1) people in their late 30s through early 50s that have good disposable income levels and have come back into collecting and 2) an even larger cohort of young men and women in the 18 - 25 age range that have started to collect over the past decade due to the movies/tv shows, and, especially with female readers/collectors, the DC New 52 relaunch and 2012 Image successes (e.g. Saga). The interesting thing is that there are a ton of young collectors that are chasing keys/1st apps now, rather than dollar bin diving or chasing the latest hot modern. Back when I started doing shows, the only people really buying the old stuff were other sellers/dealers and old fart collectors like thehumantorch, Artboy99, piper and 500club.
  9. Even better, they turn lame 3rd tier properties into valuable characters overnight.
  10. Unless they are able to grade/encapsulate/ship by the end of the week they will be a bit behind on my mid May submission: 24 Modern received 5/12/2017 - still at Verified as of 6/7/2017.
  11. I have actually slowed down on my collection hunting the past two years, but looking at how many have popped up with other part time sellers and at local stores, there are still plenty to be found. The only question is what price are you willing to pay to land them.
  12. You should have snagged the other 88 longs as well.
  13. Tim is a great buyer to deal with - fast payment and good communication.
  14. Thanks. Just got in and saw this. The book is yours. I will send you the details via PM.
  15. I am curious to see if Wonder Woman drops by less than 50% due to word of mouth. We are going with some friends and their kids this coming weekend, and I expect that there will be plenty of others with the same plan due to kids sports on opening weekend.
  16. I expect that the budget on this one will be the largest we have seen to date for a super-hero movie based on the number of actors/actresses and the CGI they will need for it. A good portion (if not all) of the production cost will likely be covered by marketing/product placement up front.
  17. These movies should be huge, but it will be a bit weird seeing this without all of the Marvel heroes in the fold.
  18. I was just kidding. I know that inflation adjusted it is no competition. That being said, I would be a viewer poll would back my statement up re: who people would rather look at.
  19. I really like this MJ Avengers 8 set. It is one of the better ones lately.
  20. WW topping Iron Man is easy - more men and women would rather look at an in her prime Gal Gadot than an old and just out of rehab RDJ.
  21. I had bids in on most of the Joker cover Bats and Tecs, well over GPA on a number of them, and lost on all but one. The only bid that did carry was pseudo lowball bid on the Tec #128 that held for a couple of days and did not budge at the end, likely due to it being graded by the other company.
  22. Not sure, but that is from the ending of the BvS movie where Lex is basically telling them that Darkseid is coming.
