  1. Nice. Let's see this book run up a bit in all grades........
  2. I snagged a small group (450 or so comics) off of Craigslist during lunch today at less than $0.50 per book. The main piece was a New Teen Titans/Tales of run from #1-60, but there are a few other decent odds and ends as well. The conditions range from low to high grade, depending on whether the owner bought them off the rack or at the local used book store (e.g. Kamandi run is beat but complete). At the least, I will more than double my initial investment in $1.00 bins.
  3. And don't forget NM #100 for the 1st appearance of X-Force.......
  4. +1 I am starting to see more "I have not bought a book since 198X" collections come out of basements over the past two years, a couple of which had AF #15s, but a lot of them are still sitting in storage.
  5. Most of the collectors I know that have copies of AF #15 have them unslabbed (just in Mylars). They buy graded books now, but have had their AF #15s for a while and have not sent them in. That being said, there are still a lot of collectors that do not buy slabs. Heck, at a small local show this past weekend I had someone pass on my 9.0 Swamp Thing #37 since it was slabbed.
  6. And your point here is ..... ? The Boards still have integrity. It's a tough crowd! No doubt. It's a litmus test. Either the boards are cheap, which they are, or $1500 is high. I don't know what the rationale is. It was just an observation. Lord knows I've sold numerous book elsewhere for higher prices (even accounting for sales fees) that the prices offered here on the boards. We are all looking for a deal on the boards. If it is not discounted by 20% of GPA or more, we do not buy it.
  7. Which books? I am not trying to be a jerk here, but I cannot recall any bigger character 1st apps that has happened with. Our Army at War 81 used to be Sgt. Rock's first appearance. Then folks wise up and it became Our Army at War 83. Brave and Bold 54 used to be considered Teen Titans' first appearance. Still is. But that'll change, too. I said bigger characters. So, that leaves us with one for now, and a maybe. I am on the fence re: B&B #54 vs. #60 for the simple reason that all they did was add one character and call them the Teen Titans in #60. The core of the team was already in place in #54. Time will tell, I guess. WRT Harley Quinn, the "1st Appearance in DCU" does not hold the same cachet as either of those two instances. In addition, she has 10 or so appearances in comics before the one-shot. That will be tough to overcome.

  9. The market has spoken and BA #12 is considered Harley's 1st app. The Ross one-shot is nice in that it is in the DCU continuity, but there are other "animated series" related appearances before it. Add in the fact that most Harley fans know that she first appeared in the cartoon and it will be tough for the Ross one-shot to replace BA #12 as the key 1st appearance.
  10. So, what are the Wonder Woman SA keys that are still cheap?
  11. My vote was the 10X or more option. My guess is that there are still plenty of copies out there in collections that have been tucked away for a long time now as AF #15 has always been a big SA book and highly sought after.
  12. I lost interest in the storyline in the late teens and have not bothered to read the rest to catch up. The art is great, but the breaks in printing have pretty much killed any interest I had in the series. I still get the new issues as they come out in my file, but I am about to drop Saga plus a few other books from my file this week (mostly other Image titles).
  13. Definitely in dealer back stock. One of the small LCSs in town sold off a case of NM 98s they had sitting in storage between 2012-14. In 2007 (or a bit earlier?), one of the LCSs bought 10,000 books to help out another store that hit a bit of trouble. Included in the haul was close to a long box of untouched NM 98s. I wonder if the buyers would have the foresight to have these slabbed. The store that opened the case mentioned that he had a very picky buyer that only wanted the top copies so he would put out the damaged ones first. My guess is that the guy was slabbing them. I pulled out some HG copies, but most of them had a spine tick or two from sitting in storage for so long. At the time of the other big lot, NM #98 was not going for silly money in 9.8 so most people were just buying them raw to hold onto and/or flip later. There were also nice deep stacks of most other CA keys except for ASM #300 and BA #12 - he had a good stack of Omega Men #3s for $4 apiece at one show........
  14. Looks like prices are starting to move up a bit again. The last 3.5 hit $2898 and the 5.0 on HA went for $4302 on Sunday.

  16. Lots of talk about this in the Outcast thread. I think the consensus is that its a neat novelty but not a 1st appearance in the traditional sense. I personally think it may have value because of the new characters it introduced into the Walking Dead. Kirkman plays the long game and while Bernie didn't last long, Magna seems to be a potential major cog in the machine. +1 - 1st appearance of Magna will be the long term reason for WD #127 to go up. That being said, I will be labelling WD #127 as 1st Magna and Outcast Preview for conventions this year........
  17. So, will this Civil War be followed up by One More Day where Peter Parker makes a deal with the devil and as a side benefit, gets his secret identity back? Seems to me, once they do this, unless they plan on killing Peter Parker off in the MU (which is a possibility and gets you Miles), then having the public learn his identity makes no sense. I feel like this is not something they have to address. I don't think Marvel can use Spider-Man indefinitely in their movies, just Cap 3 and Maybe Avengers 3, and who knows how major the role will be. I THINK they will use an older spider man (make up on Garfield or an older actor) for these movies, and Sony can still tell their stories about a younger Spider Man without affecting any continuity. I think Spidey will be in there, but I can't imagine he'll be featured as an equal with the other Avengers. In the alternative, if they really want to, Avengers 3 will probably have some form of the Infinity Gauntlet with its reality bending powers, and they can probably retcon spidey's identity if necessary. Yeah. I'm definitely not hoping for One More Day. Cosmic Spidey vs Hulk ? They could do a Sins of the Past arc with Goblin and then have the female child survive and resurface as Spider-Gwen. That would be way more entertaining........
  18. Sweet. I need to find another 9.8 Shazam #28 then.......
  19. All that matters is whether the market decides that Avengers #71 is the 1st Invaders or not.
  20. I think with the announcement of Viola Davis being in final contractual stages for signing on for a 5 movie deal to reprise her role as Amanda Waller, in 5 movies beyond the introductory Suicide Squad film, we are looking at a considerable push towards a new franchise of movies based on the Suicide Squad. That said, I do not think that BA 12 will experience a lull after the Suicide Squad movie is released in 2016. Also, there are considerably more HG copies of NM 98 than BA 12 so that is another reason the book will not experience a drop in value. Re: NM 98, prices have dropped a bit since the Deadpool movie announcement was made but it'll pick back up to moving briskly at over a g-ball in 9.8, once the movie gets closer. My point was that there are plenty of HG BA #12s, like NM #98, and that since demand is greater than the plentiful supply the prices will remain high. That being said, there is usually a dip in prices after the initial "movie announced" spike, a lull while movie is produced, then a run up even higher closer to the movie, then a plateau or pull back during the post-movie lull. It is a pattern that has been playing out with Silver and Bronze keys for years now and I expect that BA #12 will do the same. The thing to focus on, though, is that the books keep rising to higher lows and highs over time.
  21. Comparing HG copies of NM 98 ( 3,275 in 9.6 or higher ) too HG copies of BA12 ( 559 in 9.6 or higher) makes about as much sense as having this thread moved too modern. I think his point was simply that neither is "rare" in high grade. And he's right. -J. Exactly. You can use Hulk #181 as an example as well - plentiful in HG (and any other grade) but demand keeps the price high and slowly rising........
  22. You are . . . We like to say old . . . er around these parts. Still have not hit 40 yet, so that must be a good thing for the hobby if I am an older coot........
  23. Looking at other movie related books, there is a lull after the movie comes out where prices may pull back, plateau, or continue to increase. There is no rule. My guess is that this book will plateau after the movie and pull back/correct a bit. However, if they do a solo flick following that then it may continue to go up. This book is like NM #98 - plenty of HG copies floating around but demand that outstrips the abundant supply.
