  1. It is becoming too hard to track all of the price spikes/movie and tv related 1st apps now. Looks like I have to reprice the Deadpool box I put together for a small show a couple of weeks ago now.
  2. Yep she's huge here also, and its not just movie related. Harley is a Phenomena. She's by far the most popular modern age superhero, aside from TWD. Deadpool doesn't come close. It was the announcement of the movie appearance, however, that triggered the "price spike". -J. BA #12 has been a hot book here for a while. It was an easy $250+ sale for 9.0/9.2 copies when slabbed 9.4s were going for that price online. The movie announcment helped the 9.8s spike, but raw 9.0s to 9.4s were rising before then for one reason - Harley is so popular. It is a better title than TWD now at cons - all you have to do is load up at the LCSs the week of the show, sticker the issues at $6 - $10 apiece, and let them go.
  3. It is more due to an increased number of people chasing keys now due to the movie/TV effect. Over the past two years I have noticed an influx of new buyers ranging from 1) young collectors in their teens buying back issues, 2) a ton of new female readers/collectors, and 3) a large cohort of people that are in their 30s that stopped collecting in the 90s and have more disposable income to collect again (school done, good job now, etc.). One trend that has been accelerating in the hobby for a while now is the focus on keys rather than completing runs. The shift will only accelerate over time similar to what we have seen in other hobbies. That being said, Harley has been the top selling back issue character for me for the past couple of years. Deadpool is a distant second.
  4. I missed the boat on this one as well. Had the chance to buy a stated NM+ copy early last year for $350 but passed on it. I might get a low grade copy later down the road if prices ever fall. Be patient and you will get your chance again via collections or LCSs pulling them out and pricing them at OSPG. There are still plenty of copies in the wild.
  5. Or the seller is a genius and bought out the print run before spreading Terry's article all over the Internet. Now he can supply all the speculators as they sell to each other. A little of both I imagine. Arcane Comics wouldn't do that. They've always had a ton of copies of the combo pack issues, but have lately been selling a lot more of them than usual, so they checked the completed sales on eBay and bumped their prices up. Nothing wrong with that, its a good shop. But hey look at this: http://comicbookinvest.com/category/market-report/top-10/ Last 3 books mentioned in this thread: Batman 35 combo pack. Check. Justice League 1 2nd print combo pack. Check. Batman Annual 2. Check. So lets stop pretending its all a result of a natural increase in demand for these issues. There is a JL 1 3rd print combo as well. That should have an even lower print run, right?
  6. If it is a legit sale then for boardies with 9.8s. If it is a false sale that still moves the prices up then for boardies with 9.8s.
  7. Is Legends #1 picking up any steam now that Amanda Waller is confirmed for the Suicide Squad movie?
  8. Regarding Spider-Gwen: "The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long." The Phantom variants will hold up well if you buy them at cover. (thumbs u If you pay the first week premium you do not fare as well........
  9. Really? I've rarely seen one. 358 on the other hand I don't seem to have any trouble finding. Some of the online dealers were not aware last year either and I plucked a number of copies for cheap. Now, they have marked them up.
  10. Try to find the 9.8 Canadian Newsstand Variant. It is much tougher than the regular one...... (thumbs u It is funny, and sad, looking at the action on eBay last night for this book - I sold my last 9.6 for $150 a month ago but they are well over $200 now.
  11. You can pick up the WD #100 1st regular from mycomicshop.com for $9......yesterday it was $6........
  12. Randall is great to deal with - fast payment, friendly, and great communication. Overall a pleasure to deal with. Thanks! (thumbs u
  13. I believe Jim Shooter said that in the editorial section of... Harbinger #1. I would say more like Uncanny X-Men #1 with it being new characters that deal with how their powers effect the world and themselves, teenagers, death, life, and a new way of approaching a superhero team that no other comic publisher was doing at the time. I would liken it to FF#1 - started out nicely and waned as time went on.
  14. Should be worth more than Turok #1 seeing as Ninjak has a good shot at appearing in the Valiant TV or movie productions, if/when they are released.........based on that Turok auction, I would say $0.51 for Ninjak #1.
  15. If it had stayed lower I would have bid on it. Tonight I have snagged a couple of books for 20 - 25% GPA 90d average, and more from the last recorded sales. It is interesting to see some of the CBCS books go for less than the CGC books in the same grade. I thought that they were fetching a bit of a premium? I did pay full price for one because I wanted it, though - the stupid Captain America #14 (winter soldier cover) in 9.8. After that I snagged the other two to make the combined shipping more palatable.
  16. The Friday night Clink auctions are usually great for deals on Copper and Modern books. You can usually get them for 20-30% discount to GPA, or for even a larger discount. Needless to say I am bargain hunting tonight.
  17. Just be patient and you will come across one via a clueless LCS (I picked up a nice copy a couple of years ago for $4 at a LCS that pulled out a BA run) or in a collection.
  18. Off the top of my head and because I do not follow any of the war titles you could consider the following for Silver and Bronze DC. Action #252 Adventure #247 Brave & Bold #28 Brave & Bold #34 Showcase #4 Showcase #22 Showcase #30 Showcase #34 Batman #232 (GL #76 is a consideration, but I think Batman #232 is a better choice due to Ra's Al Ghul being on TV now) HOS #92
  19. Why go with the 2nd appearance of Darkseid instead of his 1st appearance?
  20. Where are the DC SA keys? That is where the better opportunity will be over the next few years IMHO as they are starting from a much lower value point.
  21. Some of the one-shots/2 issue minis (the Turok one) used to fetch good prices. As far as value, the 1999 or 2000 relaunch has some pricey books in it. Due to the low print runs these are tough to find.
  22. Unfortunately, it is the same guy. The same person that paid over $1,800 for #1 originally (twice) is now leading this auction. Someone posted the entire run of Star Wars (almost) in 9.8 on eBay. I needed 26 issues they listed and I put in solid bids for all of them. This same bidder is now outbidding me for 12 or 13 of those issues. All are being sold from the same seller (including the #1). He is also setting a very high price for issue #33 (low census). A 9.6 now over $200.00 bid. It is not even a 9.8. I know someone who needs it to complete a 9.6 run and is equally frustrated. I have stopped bidding on auctions when this guy shows up. How can I get him to bid on my listings? Seriously, though, I wonder if this is that guy from Florida that built a climate controlled storage area from his books. Back in the early 00s it was manna when he started bidding on your raw or graded books. It was guaranteed new record high prices when he did.
  23. Last fall one of the LCS owners broke out a case of IG #1s for the local big show and I scooped up five for $5. He had another case that he pulled out and started piecemealing into short boxes of 90s spec books (there are some good books but a ton of bad) for $100 per short box. I asked him if he had more cases and he said he thought he had another one or two in the back.
  24. The funniest part of this page is the May 1991 list - X-Force #2 was the top book. Buying books now based on 20+ year old Wizard lists might not be a bad idea.......
