I watched Saturday morning cartoons religiously from around 1966 to 1971, but what stood out most back then were the classic WB cartoons from the 40s and 50s that were constantly aired at the time.

Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes were the best. My mom had strict standing orders to wake me at 7am (and then she went back to bed) so I could get my fix before heading to school.

NerdyGirl and Filter sold me my Bat 1 and Cap 1, no problems with either transaction

I didn't mean to indicate anyone would have any issues buying from NerdyGirl or Sam (from Skeleton Key comics) on Instagram. Their reputation is first class and they are trusted sellers with a capital T. I just felt in my time following them on Instagram that it was all a big social media party and few deals of the kind I'm looking for (I could never afford either of the comics you bought even if I liquidated everything I own). Whereas I find stuff I like all the time on these here boards!

    Whatsnot sales data?

    Instagram sellers?

GPA should just have a category for NerdyGirl sales.  I swear all of the geek boys go crazy for her and her friends sales on WhatNot and Instagram.  I will watch for a while, but honestly can't believe how some of the guys trip over themselves trying to show who has the biggest bankroll.

I'm on Instagram and used to follow NerdyGirl and her accomplice from Skeleton Key comics but IMO all of their *sales* were all sizzle and no steak. I'll take the G/S/B Forum Only Selling Area over these two, any day!

  4. Have had nothing but good experiences buying and selling with MCS for the last seven years, but things kind of went off the rails in the last month...

First thing to go wrong was a missing order worth $372 including a nice DC 100 Page Super Spectacular #4 (Wrightson cover). The strange thing was that according to tracking, the order never left MCS. Anyways, a refund was issued.

Second thing to go wrong was a missing Fantastic Four #3. I had bought the comic from MCS five months ago graded a 2.5 and, being in Canada, it was easier for them to send it direct to CGC for slabbing. The good news is that it came back as a blue label 3.5! The bad news is that the reason it was missing is because MCS had somehow got their wires crossed and, when the comic returned from CGC, didn't realize it belonged to me and sold it. :tonofbricks:

    Anyways, a refund was issued.

The final thing to go wrong (so far) is that two more orders have gone missing (and tracking still shows them as never leaving MCS). These orders totaled $1,250 and included Green Lantern 76, Superman 233, and Detective Comics #411. Anyways, another refund was issued.

MCS customer service with all of these issues was first class as always (with the FF #3 they threw in an extra $50 on top of the amount they sold the comic for), and I appreciate the nearly $4k in refunds, but I would have rather received the comics! In addition to the cash paid, time and emotion are invested in every auction win. These were all comics I was looking forward to adding to my collection and to lose out on them, frankly, sucks. I have had many dealings with MCS over the years and have had consignment sales near six figures, but these recent issues have definitely shaken my confidence in them.

i am curious--how do you guys feel when you walk out of a really bad one?   say, you're starting the car in the parking lot after having seen green lantern or suicide squad or elektra?   i don't love guardians 2 by any means, but when we call it "a bad movie," how do we describe the ones that we don't scrape the bottom of the barrel for, but have to turn the barrel over and look underneath for?

As a fan of superhero movies in general (kids don't realize how spoiled they are today with the wealth of comic book flicks - when I was a kid it was Superman and Batman and that was it), I have never felt any of the Marvel or DC movies were bad. Some were just disappointing.

    - Books are relatively common (eg 5-10+ sales in past 90 days), which usually means there are other copies available on MCS and ebay as BINs. The higher priced BIN won't move as long as a cheaper one is sitting out there.

I appreciate the point being made by MCS, but the blanket statement above is a little misleading. If you have a comic with the same grade as another but, for example: better page quality; better presentation; newsstand vs. direct; and/or an absence of flaws that may be on the other copy (for example - writing on the cover), feel free to price it higher than the other BIN as many buyers will pay the extra for a more desirable copy, even in the same grade.

That was a fun trip down memory lane. While many of the characters' names eluded me, I was surprised at how many of the theme songs are still stuck in my head all these years later! Now to dial up some of these classic cartoons on Youtube for my three-year old and see how she thinks they compare to Paw Patrol!

Not sure if I should say this helps a lot, as I still don't recognize the majority of these characters, but I was definitely having a hard time matching up a lot of these silhouettes with the faces! But it did help me spot #34 Motormouse and (I think) #55 Autocat! I also see the Chattanooga Cats but don't remember any of their names... :tonofbricks:

#52 has a fairly naughty name, continuing the previous porn star theme.....

I barely remember that cartoon but wasn't it the Hillbilly Bunch or something? I think they were a ripoff of the Disney hillbilly bears (I think they were from Song of the South). Zip-a-dee-doo-dah!

What's the best way to remove the color touch and hopefully get a blue label?  I only see one spot (right below "AUG") and wonder what would happen if that green coloring were black or blue pen?  Then it wouldn't be considered restoration, and the hit to the grade might not be much?  It was cleaned and pressed before submission, so probably not a lot of room to increase the grade by pressing.

    Any thoughts?

Any color touch removal, as previously mentioned, is going to involve damaging the comic. Always puzzles me why people see this (scraping away part of the cover in the hope of changing the label from purple to blue) as an improvement. If you plan to keep this comic, I wouldn't do anything. If your plan is to sell this comic, I think you will find that the combination of resto removal/grading fees combined with the drop in value (on the assumption that any blue label for this book will almost assuredly be a lower grade) probably equals the amount you would get for this comic now if you resold it, purple label and all.

As Zzutak said, if you really want a GL #1 CGC 3.5 with a Blue label the best plan is probably to sell this one and keep the funds for when an unrestored copy in the same grade next comes along.

I'm not recommending you actually do this, but a line with a black 'sharpie' drawn directly over the existing green "color touch" might appear to be a generic defacement and not resto.   Any rules of thumb on this idea?

Just make sure there is lots of black ink bleed through to hide any suggestion of previous color touch!                         :jokealert:
