I don't think cancel culture means what you think it means...

They aren't being ostracized by the comic collecting and online community because of C2E2? I thought that was the definition of cancel culture.

Crain did a comic shop tour last year. He came to my LCS and the line for him stretched outside the store, down the corridor almost to the entrance of the mall. This store has had signings by Shooter, Golden, Land, etc and I’ve never seen 1/3 of that for any creator. On Black Friday they’re lucky if there’s 20 people in the store at a time,

He’s been at Megacon every year the past several years. He’s so in demand that you have to give Flag your # and they put you in a ‘virtual queue.” The queue is usually full by around noon.

I’ve met him several times. The first time 4-5 years ago I got a sketch. I put the sketch on comicartfans just to show it off but every 6 months or so I get a message asking if I’d be willing to sell it. Turned down several decent offers. At the LCS signing I mentioned the owner set up a VIP line for us longtime pull box customers. I had grown men offering me $100+ to pretend they were with me so they could jump the line to meet this guy.

It’s fine if you never heard of him. It’s fine if you hate his art or think he’s a talentless hack as I’ve seen others allude to. The fact is he’s an absolute rock star among modern comic collectors. His popularity is on par with what I saw with the OG Image founders back in the 90s. Except having done 1/10 of the work.

As a comic collector who is still stuck in the bronze age I appreciate a modern comic fan's perspective. I remember there were mixed feelings about Frank Miller's art when he set the comic world on fire in 1980. I imagine it's the same with Crain based on your post. Just have to see if he and Black Flag can survive the cancel culture that has them in their crosshairs.

So I guess part of his "System " now includes spreading misinformation through "fake news" outlets to try to garner support and sympathy as well as further his master plan of taking CGC down..

Note the "new outlet" it is notorious for littering their site with ads and fake news as well as some real articles to make it seem credible.

We feel it is important to provide transparency on how CGC arrived at our method of certifying Clayton Crain’s Ultimate Fallout comics with the attached acetate covers. For us, this was an unprecedented item to grade. After Mr. Crain spoke with us prior to C2E2, the rules we applied to his books:

    • The additional cover had to be created by an established artist in the industry.
    • The comic to which the cover was attached had to contain a cover by that same artist.
    • A copy of the comic with the attached cover had to be submitted to us for inspection prior to certifying any copies.

Given the recent circumstances, we have made adjustments to the labeling originally used for the Ultimate Fallout exhibiting the acetate cover. Going forward, any copies submitted to CGC will display in the label text: "In God We Intrust" Acetate Artist Cover attached with 2 staples after manufacturing. The books will still be allowed to receive a Universal label.

This will also apply to Mr. Crain’s forthcoming copies of Ghost Rider #1 and Deadpool Nerdy 30 #1 that contain an acetate cover.

    :hi: Pat.

    I'm an "influencer."

Everyone, purchase ... whichever comic book you wish.

However, you do not want to purchase, ever, because they are absolutely horrendous, terrible, just terrible, Detective Comics 401 to 500. You are better off purchasing bags full of air than Detective Comics 401 to 500. Remember, Detective Comics 401 to 500 are not worth your money.

I don’t buy it. Danielle and I have talked comics for hours at nycc. There’s no way she doesn’t read them. Maybe she doesn’t read moderns (I know plenty of people who don’t) but she’s read the classics.

I have never met her I just follow her on Instagram. I know she has made that statement before about not reading comics in her posts. It's the kind of comment that's hard to forget when you're a comic fan. But she has like one billion instagram posts so I'm not even going to try chasing down where I saw it. Ask her the next time you see her at NYCC or maybe someone else can. I know she and her husband have a lot of friends here on the boards.

And from my limited experience - they are generously conservative. They do have listings that say they graded the book, and some listing that do not say that. I actually look for MCS graded books only because I feel they have been at least looked at when placed on consignment.

I consign raws and every one is graded by MCS before being listed as a consignment. If you disagree with their grade you can have the comic returned or have it sent by them to CGC for grading and consignment upon return.

Remember when it was fun getting your comics graded? Those were the days. I had nothing but praise for CGC ... that hasn't happened in a long time.

CGC and their current competition all seem to be going sideways. Maybe this will open the door for a new player to emerge...

Waitaminnit! Didn't Steve Borock just partner up with a company that currently grades thousands of comics and is renowned for their tight grading!?

I have seen enough “influencer” made-up BS that I question them buying 125 copies at par. I’m more apt to think they either bought them at a severe discount in exchange for IG hype or they were never purchased at all and it was staged. I simply don’t believe 80% of the influencer hype. It’s mostly fabricated marketing tactics.

My guess is they were given them FREE in exchange for IG hype. Pure market manipulation influencing.
