That dude had to be inspired by Sean Connery in Zardoz.
They both came out in 1974 (the comic and movie that is - not Vartox or Mr. Connery).

Is this a new key issue?
Maybe it's one of those DC romance comics Lichtenstein swiped from?

so true
and here is their superior dog food product - equally impressive!
The one thing that stands out to me when they were responding to our initial back and forth discussion is they would switch gears from this being about them personally and using the term "our" as if they were representing a company or something. It could mean the royal "we" I suppose but if this is more than a one person operation, how did any of this ever happen in the first place. For whatever reason, that use of the term "our" has been bugging me since the first time I read their posts.
You would think people would understand that the folks on this board are intelligent and highly observant-- very little escapes our collective eyes. Making any claims here that are not 100% truthful will always bite them on the arse.
Funny you should mention the term "our" as I noticed there are multiple Ebay sellers hawking comics from the Hilltop Pedigree collection, all with very similar looking titles and descriptions...

On an imaginary pedigree collection that's apparently only recognized as a pedigree collection by the seller.
Imaginary? But it has the official embossed gold pedigree seal of approval...

William was pretty cool.... and he pulled a stint at almost every LCS in the region. He would go to EVERY show within driving distance to get books signed. When he passed away (R.I.P.) he had 7 short boxes full of signed books.... many of the creators are still alive, but some, like Gil Kane, had passed before Signature Series options were even available. He had E.C.'s with the signature on each splash of the book with at least one of the creators on it. Some of those it took years to get together. GOD BLESS...

That's a great story, Jim. Your friend sounds like he was very cool. Whatever happened to those ECs?

Here's what I have from the Don Rosa Pedigree with the description cribbed from comicbookpedigrees.com:
Accumulated by world-renowned and Eisner award winning comic book artist, writer, and historian, Keno Don Rosa, this collection contained every comic book and magazine issued from every publisher from 1966 to the late 1980's. Rosa began collecting in earnest in 1962, as he purchased each comic from the newsstands, read them only once, and carefully tucked them away in optimum storage conditions, using archival boxes and a climate controlled "vault." Because they were stored in such an environment with no use of polybags, each book exhibits a brilliant sheen, deep ink reflectivity, sharp corners and a fresh newsstand appearance.
And I've been told by Greggy that this book is a Don Rosa copy as well:
I agree with @namisgr that Astonishing Tales is ASTONISHING, and the rest ain't too shabby either. NIce stuff Barton!

Thrilled to have this one stroll my way. I don't have a lot of Golden Age and zero Captain Marvel (until now) but this cover always caught my eye.

I was six years old when the comic below appeared on our local comic spinner rack and my older brother, 14 at the time, bought it for a quarter. The only comics I read back then were Harvey, Gold Key and my sister's Archies. But I went down to my brother's room as often as he'd let me and read this comic over and over and over. I'm actually amazed the cover is still attached - I read it that many times. My brother, finally sick of me coming down to his room (he couldn't smoke pot with me around), told me to keep the comic. I've held onto it for 44 years and finally had it graded. Now that it is, I'm afraid to tell him I still have it in case he asks for it back!

Had to drop across the border after work today to pick up a Batman 232 coming my way courtesy of @oakman29
The young Canadian border guard was friendly and quite surprised to discover the entire $550 value I was declaring was one comic book. Curious to know more about it, he asked, "Is it worth so much because it's never been taken out of the package?"

Grabbed this one. Nothing rare or ultra-valuable but one of my favorite Silver Age X-Men covers and an upgrade over my 9.2.

I find the US customs to be more strict than the Canadian customs.
I imagine it depends on whether the respective agents are having to deal with visitors or citizens returning home. I find crossing back into Canada to be far more of a pain than heading into the US. One agent asked me if I'd been away from my vehicle at any time while visiting the US. Naturally, I had. She then asked me how I could be sure no one had hidden drugs underneath and was following me home, ready to retrieve their hidden stash as soon as I crossed the border. Alarmed, I told her she was right - I didn't have any way of knowing and asked her if I should get out so the two of us could check underneath my car. She said, "Naw, don't worry about it," and waved me through.
