  1. This was a sale made to a good customer last month. Stunning 9.0.
  2. Jortner update: I've been trying to get my money owed to me from Jortner since August 2007. You would not believe the number of lies that I was told along the way. Typical lies included "check is in the mail" or "I got this great silver age collection for you.". So I was shocked last week, when he called me and subsequently deposited slightly MORE than he owed me into my bank account after 11 months of dodging and evading. Methinks that my good friend Mark Zaid deserves more than a little bit of recognition for the hard work in tracking down Jortner's multiple victims and getting everything organized for a possible court date. I can think of no other reason why Jortner would finally make good on payment.
  3. Edited my posts to reflect the accurate links.
  4. An OAAW #128 I picked up yesterday locally: And a #150
  5. Here are some of those GIs I bought off ebay a few months back:
  6. I'll see you there Keith and I'm glad I was able to send a nice price your way for that book, although I'm still in shock that someone actually was willing to go higher than me on it. #92 is tough, but not that tough.
  7. My $675 bid was the "I know no one will bid higher than this so I don't have to worry" bid. High bidder was m1winters. Anyone know him? At least I won the 94. Seller is Keith Marlow I believe? Next time I want a book, I'll have to snipe.
  8. Anybody see this? Our Army at War #92
  9. I guarantee it too. I wonder if 50K is out of the realm of possiblities.
  10. If it stays in the low 30s, I'll probably pick it up. I've already spoken to 2 or 3 guys who say they will be bidding well over that though.
  11. Beautiful book. I've never seen that cover either.
  12. I've never seen this cover either. Stupendous Mick!
  13. Don't know if anyone has gotten their winnings in from the ebay seller with all the G.I. Combats, but I won GI #s 66, 74, 78, 79 and 81. All were as described to a T. #78 is a 6.5/7.0. I'll post scans when I have time.
  14. I'm going to guess around 45K - 50K. The 9.2 sold at 27K about 4 years ago. If it sells for 25K, a dealer bought it.
  15. Greg's Atlanta buddy (Dave) is the one who found the deal in Atlanta that I bought and subsequently caused all of these problems. I put up the 10K for the deal. The deal was worth not much more than 10K. "We" were paying top dollar for this group because the seller had more and we wanted first shot. It had a nice World's Finest run including a World's Best #1. I met Dave (Greg's buddy) in Atlanta and we picked up the collection (Greg was not there). Then Dave asked if they could sell the World's Finest run and I take the rest (The rest was misc SA DC stuff, nothing great). I had misgivings, but I said ok, since he had found the deal, I figured I owed him that much. The verbal agreement we had was that I would receive all of the money up to 10K, and then we would split any further profits 50/50. He sold the run on ebay under Dave's ebay account. That's when the problems started. I found out Greg was shilling the auctions. So did ebay apparently. They shut down his ebay account, but not before the auctions had ended and the World's Finest run was sold (individual books were sold). The total sale price was nearly 5K. Much was said after the fact as to what was going on, but the bottom line is I never saw any of the money which was owed to me. Greg promised to make good on the debt. He did send 2K about 2 months later towards the balance he owed me, but never sent anymore. Based on my conversations with Greg, he has a problem with telling the truth either because he wants to tell you what you want to hear (but can't deliver) or it just comes natural to him to constantly tell untruths. He would send me bogus tracking numbers for payments that never arrived. After viewing his auctions for a period of time, it became clear that they hype was more important than the truth in the auction descriptions. He gave new meaning to the term Original Owner collection. Books would be sold, resold, and then resold again until the right number was achieved for a sale. He's always got this "amazing" deal cooking but never has any money with which to buy it. The point of all of this is so that others can be made aware of this guy and to avoid or be very, very, very careful in their dealings with him. This guy was an investment banker with JP Morgan, is very affable and extremely intelligent. Unfortunately, he is also very unethical and I don't think he can even distinguish anymore a truth from an untruth. Brent
  16. Nice one, Brent! (thumbs u The auction has started? Andy Yup, there's at least 50 Our Army at War (and others from the big 5) up for auction. All are no reserve except for the OAAW #1 CGC 5.0 and a few others. Lots of stunning MASS copies and early issues in high grade that you just never see. Here's a link: War books in auction
  17. Here's another: http://www.qualitycomix.com/auctions_detail.php?issue_id=7572
  18. Got a lot of nice OAAWs and SSWSs mostly out of my collection coming up in our next auction. Most are the highest graded copies. More will be uploaded in the next few weeks. OAAWs SSWSs
  19. These are nothing that I'm super excited about, but they are nice looking books. If they were all 9.6/9.8.... I'm creating the thread now.
