  1. 4/10 Modern slow w/ pressing came back about 3 weeks ago.
  2. Feb 2021 submissions should be heading back in a week
  3. It's a great time to be buying collections, bad time to be buying into hype, and as good as any to buy things for the PC.
  4. Ya'll are giving me hope for my Feb '21 books. It's taken so long, I've moved twice.
  5. Yo LA people! Having a 30+ long box sale today starting at 8am and going until 12. There’s going to be a ton of good filler books and long runs of major titles. There’s very little image and indie y clutter things up. books are $2 each or 50/$1 or fill a long for $150. come dig and hang out! At 5333 Russell Ave 90027
  6. When does a popular cover become a classic cover? When CGC designates it? Not being snarky...I'm curious what ya'll think? Edit: And when does a classic cover become a key?
  7. 47 longs, 1 short, and maybe 20 random xerox and banker boxes packed full. Half stored at my boss’s house and half living in closets and under beds. I already regret this 😵‍💫
  8. Wish me luck, boys. Largest collection I’ve ever bought while living in the smallest apartment I’ve ever lived in with a 16 month old. Total chaos!
  9. completely agree with that and I'm gonna miss the east coast. Fingers crossed that guy is still in business when I head back around Christmas. I'm still confused by that guys pricing. When he had a flea market booth years ago, it was even more all over the place. It's always nice when you can buy a stack of good comics AND a cast iron skillet at the same place.
  10. $1500? Man, where were you when most of these were sold. Would have happily taken a cool 1k.
  11. Joseph4768 Bid on a book, paid for the book and then sent a cancellation request that it was purchased in error in minutes. Sure, buddy. Just block 'em.
  12. That N Hollywood show? Tried to make it out but the chaos of moving won.
  13. This is a perfect example of why YouTube is so bad, lately. The thumbnail hits every bingo square of click-bait tropes. Nevermind that the title is and you can rest assured whatever the dude's take is is terrible. Don't click the link and give him views.
  14. I remembered I also spent $500 on a platinum Spiderman 1 that was for my PC. So Reason A, also. To answer your question, there was no thought behind it except if I was able to sell it quickly or not. I mean, it has to fall into the collector excitement/collectability category. I also am almost never holding variants long term (unless I bought them for myself) because I don't want to be holding the bag if it drops. Keep in mind I've spent that much maybe 3 times ever? Mostly, I'm a $1/$5 bin bandit. EDIT: But someone who actually buys and collects variants will obviously be a better data point. The point of even posting was that people buy variants for lots of reasons. I think it's nuts to spend $500 on something like this but to someone who doesn't collect comics, they'd think you were crazy for spending $500 on any book.
  15. Glad you're able to extrapolate what I've spent on how all variant collectors spend. Again, reductive as always. Apologies for the edit on the first post but I explain why it's perfectly reasonable for someone to chase variants - even expensive ones. I would never do it (unless I REALLY wanted it) but it's insane to me that you can't imagine a world in which someone would spend money on something they like. Also, an amendment to the time I spend money on a variant. Spent $500 on platinum Spidey 1 for personal collection. Does that count?
  16. Reductive, as always. I don't buy variants with any regularity but here's my experience for when I do: A) I like the cover and it's a title/character I collect and it gets put in the PC. This happens pretty rarely because I never know when variants are coming out because I don't follow them carefully. B) I buy the variant because I know I'll be able to flip it and buy a book I actually want. I think I've done this with a new Wednesday books once, ever. It's usually old stock or back issues. C) I buy it because a friend collects that character/title. Granted, I only buy maybe 5-10 variants a year and they're always impulse buys. I do have friends that are crazy completionists and will buy ANYTHING in a title. Or for a character like Miles, they'll buy literally every cover that is an homage or a variant. This is really common with ASM 300 and iconic covers like that. The UF4 creature falls into that category, easily. I can see why people want it.
  17. A lot of y'all, "I'm not influenced by anything" folks are probably some of the easiest to actually influence
  18. That guy is a insufficiently_thoughtful_person.
  19. The more I read about it, the less I care about the YouTubers involvement and more about CGC's handling of this.
  20. I think in threads like these, it'd be good to name comic influences/content creators that are actually good. I'll start: Cartoonist Kayfabe ComicTropes
  21. They probably do through Patreon, Twitch subs, donations, merch, buying over-priced product so they can be named during an opening/unboxing. But not in the same way as comics - you're right. There's way more money at stake in comics, potentially.
  22. Again - They were NOT graded on-site.
  23. It was only a matter of time before they came into the hobby. If you've been around for video game streamers, box crackers, professional product reviewers, etc., you knew the absurd and performative "hype" that goes along with them. The reason comic influencers are using it is because it works. Look at the thumbnails used for the most popular YouTube videos - It's all dumb surprise face and terrible layout. That's what the kids are clicking on, though. It's not destroying anything except gullible peoples' wallets, right now. However, when new collectors get a sour taste and feel cheated, they don't tend to stick around.
