  1. I've seen tanning on books from the early 2000s. The Southeast destroys books that aren't stored well.
  2. I really need to organize. Every time these things pop, it takes me days to find them to list.
  3. Is anyone suggesting homeless people stole the comics? Also, an increase in homelessness DOES translate to more crime in an area. There's lots and lots of nuance regarding that increase but it's real.
  4. Don't let me stop you from going off but most crime - including violent crime - is still at 40+ year lows. I'm sure it *feels* like it's getting worse to you, but it's mainly the same but with a lotttttt more overdose deaths sprinkled in.
  5. I don't know what kinds of Walgreens ya'll have near you but mine are NOT the place I want expensive things shipped.
  6. I did a decent job of record keeping the last few years so I'm not too worried...it's more the sudden 1099 when I thought I was just under the limit.
  7. So what are my chances in getting eBay to cancel this 1099? I've picked through all of this and I should have never received one because they're counting cancelled and non paying listings in their totals. I'm guessing somewhere between zero and Nelson pointing and laughing?
  8. I don't think there's any world where shipping one slab should be $65 unless is 25k+ and registered. Even then, I think it's cheaper. A slab that's well packed is about what? $16 retail with no paypal/ebay/pirateship discount? Cheaper if using literally ANY merchant account for shipping.
  9. I should have been more clear. When I did the report for paid and shipped sales from 1/1/22 to 12/31/22, I was at about 19k. Their report/1099 is showing me at 23k. When I switch my search to all orders in the same time period, I get a still different number (but over 20k). I'm trying to wrap my head around the discrepancies and also determine if I was sent a 1099 by mistake. The more I look at their 1099, the less it makes sense. Their monthly breakdowns are not possible with the amount I sold, even accounting for potential fees being added. Anyone else having something similar or am I just really thinking about this in the wrong way?
  10. So I received a 1099 from eBay for the first time this year and I'm confused. My sales were a bit under 20k but for some reason, eBay is calculating my sales and adding their fees bumping me above 20k. Is this normal? Why would I pay taxes on their fees?
  11. For most of 2020, that book was in the low to mid 3000s. So ignoring the insanity of that books run-up in 2021, it's still sitting at what? 75ish% increase from that time? That's huge!
  12. Excuse me for being an insufficiently_thoughtful_person but why aren't we comparing current prices to pre-pandemic? Seems like ignoring (or at least giving less weight to) the once in a lifetime price runup might be wise for trying to sus out the strength of the market I get the historical importance of the comparisons - especially if your business is literally selling comics - but I keep seeing all manner of comparisons of now to '20-'22 and they just don't make sense in any way if you care about long term analysis. I'm picking Hulk 181 just 'cuz and any random grade will do...let's say 6.0. Looks like there has been 3 sales this year (GPA - I know it has its limitations) for $4750, $4800, and $4600. Compare that to the 1st 3 sales of 2020 and you get $2300, $1976, and $2426. We're in a much stronger market than what was happening then. Granted, we might still be on the downward slope of the bubble and next year we'll see prices back down to 2020 levels. I doubt it, though. There's so much doom and gloom about current numbers in every market because people keep comparing them to the absolute anomaly that was the Covid Economy. What am I missing?
  13. Nearly a year later and a lot of value lost ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Stoked on the ST. It had water damage so pegged it as VG+. This is the 3rd time I’ve downgraded hard for water damage that CGC thought was fine.
  14. The book had a kind of stacking curl on the spine that made me second guess its shot at 9.8. My normal presser doesn't do square-bounds so I went with CCS. The book still absolutely has the curl.
  15. Only book I've ever had pressed by CCS and pretty sure they did absolutely nothing, haha. Can't complain, though.
  16. Finish my Wizard Top 10 collection and start dipping my toe into the PCH pool.
  17. +1 on that. When I'm listing consistently, more eyes land on items, which leads to more eyes on my other inventory, which leads to more sales. It's been GREAT the last month. Not late 2021/early 2022 great but it's finally picking back up. Like others have said, I did have to drop prices by 10%+. I still have about 15+ short boxes of books to list but I just can't find the time and it sucks to miss windows on hot books.
  18. Haven't had time to go digging in a long time and SUPER bummed I wasn't able to go to my old honey holes back on the east coast over the holidays. Hoping everyone had some great scores and will keep on keeping on in '23.
  19. I'm finding it harder to find the time to sell as my work has become more time consuming and my son was born. I'm definitely not doing this as efficiently as I could be but I'm struggling to find ways to make more of my time while still being considerate to buyers in my listings (grading, good scans, lists of defects). I keep toying with the idea of just shipping off short boxes at a time to MCS but, I don't know...That removes part of the fun of the hobby.
