  1. I thought GotG2 was overall a worse movie than the first but the emotional parts hit WAY harder. I completely agree about reigning himself in a bit. The Rocket and Drax joke machine was exhausting.
  2. The impossibility of catering to "true fans" continues to shine brightly on these boards.
  3. I saw one at an LCS for $19.99 when they were selling for 30-ish and was like, eh...not worth the time listing for that much. Realized the next day how stupid that was and it was absolutely gone.
  4. 1. No idea. 2. This is a terrible take. Modern comics didn't killed (sic) the medium - Print in general is approaching death. Comparing the 60-90s numbers to today without the context of what's happened to literally every other form of printed media is ridiculous. You don't like modern comics? Dig it. That doesn't make them bad and it doesn't make comics from previous decades good. They're comics. We're not talking high art, here. 3. Iron-Man was C list until RDJ. The Hulk sucked for decades. Cap was absolutely unreadable until Brubaker (with exceptions, of course)...Actually, the Avengers had been a C list title for decades. Guardians was horrible until Annihilation, etc, etc, etc. The modern reboots of these characters ARE the foundations of the MCU. Who even are the A list characters? Because that changes by the decade and by readership/other media. Except Spider-Man. He's always up there (And we had several BAD Spider-Man movies).
  5. I'm also fine with the 4th wall breaking. Fleabag does this VERY well.
  6. CGC still looks busssssted but as far as content, looks as good as anything else that would be on. I really wish it was a straight law procedural with superhero cases like L.A. Law.
  7. Usually, I hate covers of songs that shouldn't be covered. But then when it went into Kendrick I forgot to be bummed about Marley.
  8. This and These were part of a set sold in the JC Penney catalog in the mid 90s. I was almost positive I bought one of those sets from the catalog back in the day but they're long since sold/lost/given away.
  9. This is the answer for most. Most golden and silver is impossible to read and that extended well into bronze. Some of the classics stand the test of time but revisiting that stuff if you didn't grow up with it is hard. Stan the Man did a lot for the hobby but he was not a "good" writer but more excellent at giving the people what they didn't know they wanted. The 80s were amazing mainly for their standouts. the 90s had incredible offerings but also SOOOO much junk. I think the the last 20 years have been pretty golden for the breadth of stories and styles available for any and all readers. That has a way of compartmentalizing the fandom in a way that I'm sure can be seen as negative, though.
  10. Their prices are truly insane. Every once in a while you can find something in a dollar bin or a wall book that they forgot to mark up by 75%.
  11. I used to have great luck in Panama City and some small places around there but Hurricane Michael literally destroyed the flea market and the shops that are still open are a shells of their former selves. Jacksonville is one of those great comic buying cities in that it's relatively large, has multiple Navy bases, a revolving door of tech workers. There aren't a ton of people digging so competition isn't as gnarly as bigger metros. The dealers that are present either are only after vintage stock or are old enough to think anything printed since the late 80s is worthless. The biggest problem is that there are a LOT of comic shops (Coliseum has 4 locations alone) so landing collections is tough because they're being funneled to them. The last 6 months have been really nice but I've had times where I didn't find ANYTHING for months and months. You guys who are prolific diggers know the drill.
  12. Right time, right place on these. Walked into this sorta comic shop, sorta junk shop just as the owner was buying a collection. He didn't even look at what was in the boxes - just pointed at them and said, "You can check these out. let me know if you find anything cool." These are what I pulled out. Half were $1 and half were $.50. When he was looking at the books and pricing them, he apologized for having to charge me $5 on a black bagged Superman 75 - which was the most expensive book. Small towns are crazy, man.
  13. First time finding one of these but also the first time I remembered to look. Chalk that up to dumb luck.
  14. Out of a used book store bin today.
  15. It's so weird to think that Spidey 300 hasn't held value long term. It's been at least a $50 book for decades - when $50 copper/modern books were rare. It's down from its all time highs but it's still a VERY easy sell in literally any grade. Of course it's not an AF15. That's comparing a Corolla to a Ferrari. The VAST majority of comic book collectors will never own an AF15 so it seems silly to use these two as some sort of dueling commodity.
