  1. I've posted this before. Crippen copy. Probably the nicest in existence... maybe.
  2. Yeah, our man's one weakness is that he couldn't draw an adolescent male to save his soul. Baker's people looked younger in the interior stories, even the men. He seemed to put more detail on faces when doing covers, which makes them appear older.
  3. Tough to figure with CL 25 because prices seem all over the lot. As I mentioned above, that book would look pretty good in a slab, even if it graded out at, say, 1.5. Because the only Baker content is the cover, that's what I would have done with the book. I was the underbidder. Considering how the winner bid, I think I would have won if I had sniped it rather than bidding early. It was a nice looking fair. The colours popped. It had eye appeal. Definitely worth the price. Put a BIN of $200.00 and it would go.
  4. I love your gif. Says it all. On a serious side, the CL 25 in fair, on ebay, only went for $76.00. I would have bid but they don't ship to Canada. That was a missed opportunity. They would have realized much more. By hating us Canucks, they've left money on the table. On the upside, it curtails my compulsive buying habits.
  5. Microbia always prices high. That being said, it's a nice looking 5.0 and if 29 dukedog hadn't already promised me his 8.5, (in an alternate universe) I might have taken it.
  6. Actually a lot of the demand for Baker books is their cover and the ones that are classic. CL 25 is an obvious example. The whole demand is driven by art, as there are no "first appearances" or story twists. Lately more attention has been given to covers, instead of interiors. OS determines desirability to some extent on the number of stories Baker did in a particular issue. That's not always the case. They're breaking away certain issues now, like Teen-age Romances 38 for its risque cover. This will continue to perplex dealers who have a hard time pricing these things. Many just overprice everything and hope for the best.
  7. So much of these books' prices is based on rarity and condition. This seller has not learned this.
  8. It just makes me glad I got the majority of my copies back in the day. My DS 26, a similar looking copy to the one up now, I bought for $5.00, from a guy long dead. That's how long ago.
  9. Someone is selling a slew of Bakers at unreal prices on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CINDERELLA-LOVE-26-GD-VG-CLASSIC-MATT-BAKER-COVER-1955-ST-JOHN-GGA-GOOD-GIRL/361066956034?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27538%26meid%3D7b3b2674f5db45d29e4924158a531da1%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D11353%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D251662200907&rt=nc
  10. I'm going to post some books from the recently unearthed New Brunswick collection, just in time for Hallowe'en.
  11. I don't have any slabbed high grade Superiors. This beauty is still raw.
  12. They were published in Toronto, Canada, not far from where I live, by one Willy Zimmerman. He used Iger shop artwork, no reprints, and distributed in the States and possibly Canada.
  13. Apparently I did see this book in person in Chicago at Bedrock's booth. A very nice 5.5 and perhaps upgrade potential.
  14. There is a good book that details the history of Martin Goodman and Marvel Comics called The Secret History of Marvel Comics, by Blake Bell and Dr. Michael J. Vassallo, published by Fantagraphics. It goes into a lot of detail about Goodman and his various shell companies, starting with the pulps he published.
  15. That CL 25 looks very nice but if I saw it in person, I'd probably understand why it's a 5.5. A long non-breaking crease on the back will knock down the grade, not visible in a scan. I've pretty much agreed with their grades once I get a long look at the book in strong light. To me, eye appeal is more important than technical grade, especially when it comes to St. John romances, or any 50's books..
  16. That Cindy is such a tease. Is Cindy 37 the new Archie 50? Difference being you can get an Archie 50... Any day of the week. A raw 5.0 Archie 50 wouldn't go for this price. This is a tough book. And desirable.
  17. Congrats to the winner of this on ebay tonight. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Golden-age-high-grade-Teen-age-Romances-17-Matt-Baker-art-thru-out-/191361846686?ssPageName=ADME%3AB%3AEOIBUAA%3ACA%3A1120&nma=true&si=rErllLkBq0kM87Y7iWWU34Qt1EI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
