  1. My preference is for a book that looks new. Not new in that it has little wear, but new in that the colors and paper are fresh. I'd rather have a decent appearing VGF with nice bright colors and white pages than a dull FVF with brown pages. I have some really nice books with darker pages, but they have nice colors & gloss, so I can overlook the paper. But a faded cover is a real drawback to me. One of the top turnoffs.
  2. As nice as the book looks structurally, the colors aren't right. GIC 87 is one of "those books" where it really makes a difference to have sharp colors. They're often miscut a little, but those pinks are something to behold in living color. That copy almost looks orange. Structurally it looks nicer than an 8.0, but some of the sellers other offerings look a little generous on the grade.
  3. Thanks for posting it Buttock. Sad thing is, things like this happened back then. Yeah, and now! They just found another mass grave in Iraq.
  4. Well yours used to be a 5.5, so it has that stigma attached.
  5. I figured I'd scan this story. My copy of the book isn't in tip top shape, and the first 2-3 pages are outrageous enough to make it worthwhile. Enjoy!
  6. The 1st Baron Weirwulf is very difficult to find in true 9.2 or better. I can't recall seeing one. Some of the early Haunteds (say 3-9) have been elusive as well.
  7. That's a great issue and has a remarkable Toth story. You need to crack that puppy out!
  8. Didn't Carl Barks do some similar stuff?
  9. I couldn't turn down another nice copy of this one. Wonderful, wonderful story & art.
  10. Doesn't look like Gustavson to me. The characters are too rigid and the faces a little too cartoony.
  11. Scrooge, I loved the Sniper. Just FYI.
  12. . According to these guys, I'm just screwed. Although I do know how to use an apostrophe. What's a P.K.? And "High Fulfillment Sophisticated Swine"? Isn't that a joke? Sports nuts? That has to be a joke.
  13. I recently found that mine will tone down the colors if I use a dark background. I get "truer" colors on the brights if I use a white background. And definitely better scans if they're naked (not through the bag).
  14. I'm telling ya, it took me forever to find one with the right colors. Although Jeffro's looks like it may be just the scanner.
  15. There are some books that I've really struggled to find with the right colors (i.e. not faded or tanned). This is one of them. It turns up from time to time, but never with the colors I want. I found this at a local show today and snapped it up.
  16. I also finished out a trade for this book. A friend of mine just happened across this. No interest on his part. It was a CGC 8.5 W with no other notation. He didn't have it halfway out of the box when I said, "That's a Salida, I want it." When I opened the slab, it was like a pressure release of Salida smell. Tears welled up in my eyes, the book cried, my scanner said "Ay, carumba!".......
  17. That's a great issue. RQ Sale has a place in the comic kingdom all to himself. His run on Combat Casey was . This should probably be a post all by itself, but I just can't wait. I'm soooo excited about this book. There's a local quarterly show down here that never has anything of much note. I usually walk out with something just for the effort of going. Today, I found the #1 Atlas book on my list. There was another book I reeeeaaally wanted, but not at 6X guide (!) (not an Atlas book). I think this is one of the top 3-5 Heath covers, and I've never seen a decent copy.
  18. Flee, I truly enjoy your posts. Just great stuff. Please don't stop.
  19. Awesome! My favorite Senorita Rio cover (for a couple of reasons )! Reason 1: Reason 2: I like it because the guy in the background is about to get clubbed with a giant ant!
  20. Nice Dan, but you've always been as giddy as a schoolgirl tee hee....
  21. Rick, that Science 1 would look much nicer next to this one.
  22. That's beautiful. First a Church copy and now this? Someone ( ) keeps posting really nice HG books that make me tempted to get some myself.
